ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?
Nic replied to Nic's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, one more question. Since Lucas has hypotonia his mouth is very very weak. He used to gag on everything unless it was so smooth it went down without chewing. He also was speech delayed as a result. He was in early intervention for physical therapy and then went on the a handicapped pre k in our town where he received speech, feeding therapy, phsyical... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?

Thank you so much for the help. He doesn't like to use the bathroom in school but at home he doesn't seem to mind. When we are hitting the 12 hour mark we usually insist he try to go as well as before leaving the house. I goes in and tries willingly but says nothing comes out because he doesn't have to go. That seems odd considering he drinks normally... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?

Hi, without invading your privacy, I want to question the bladder trouble. My son only urinates 2-3 times daily and never seems to feel the need to go until he is about to burst. For example, he will maybe urinate before going in the tub at 6:30 pm and then drink about 8-10 oz of water before going to bed at 8:00, and then not urinate again until about... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?

Hi, I know you are probably right. I just feel so nervous about taking him off gluten. He has a lot of problems with food already as his hypotonia has affected his mouth and he has trouble chewing or tolerating things with different textures or tastes. I know what I have to do, I was hoping a doctor would tell me the same. Nicole -

Hi, as a lot of you may know, I am on this desperate search to find a solution to my son's (non celiac) medical problems. Here is a list of his symptoms: hypotonia, developmental delays, constipation, insomnia, weight gain, leg pains, heart burn (I am assuming, he says his heart hurts). I did have his genes tested through enterolab but they said he was... -
I think I have to. As of April 1st we will be starting with a new insurance company so therefore I will be switching pediatricians. The one I will be going to was my own as a child and I have a lot of faith in her. I am hoping that with a new doctor and maybe a new set of specialists we might get a different perspective on all of this. I just can't sit...

I just got a call from the endo. He said the urine test is not back yet but the thyroid tests were back and normal. I asked him about what the Assoc. of Clinical Endocrinologists report about the change in TSH level range. I asked if it is true that a person should be monitored if their TSH level is above 2 and he said that it is debatable. He said that...

ARCHIVED School - I Need To Vent
Nic replied to ckmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You can't always go by how the child acts about it. My son always acts like it is no big deal when things like this come up but I see that crushed look on his face (only his mom would notice such a face ). To us grownups a donut is not a huge deal but to a kid it surely is. I completely understand your frustration. I sent my son's teacher a note 2... -
Well, we spent the whole day today in the ER because he hadn't urinated in 24 hours. So they ran blood work and checked kidney function. They took an x ray. They did an untrasound of his bladder and kidneys. Everything came back fine. Then they take me out of the room to look at the x ray with them. Apparently his entire body practically is filled with...

Hi, when we first went to this endo last year I was conviced that he had Cushing's because when I googled his symptoms, Cushing's always came up. Then I went to this guy and he said there is nothing wrong after checking only his TSH and his T4. This time he said just to ease my mind he would check steroid levels and ordered a 24 hour urine free cortisol...

Hi, thanks for the input. I told the endo that our nutrionist thought insulin resistance might be a factor because he does eat a high carb diet. I'm not sure if I mentioned it above but his hypotonia has affected his mouth and he has a lot of trouble chewing. So pasta was always easy for him. But he barely chews it and swallows a lot whole or partially...

Hi, has anyone stayed at the Contemorary Hotel? If so, were the accomodating with the gluten free diet? Nicole

Hi, I will check his morning temp tomorrow (he is already up now since 6:00 ). His normal temp usually ranges between 97.6 and 98.4. We always laugh because my older son's normal temp is 99.2 so one always seems low and one runs hot.

Hi, I have a question about the puffy face. I told the endo that one of the symptoms my son has is that some days his face looks very very big and other days it looks normal. It is as if his face is swollen on some days, especially around the lower half of his face. Under his chin looks huge some days. I am not the only one who has noticed this as my...

Hi, thanks for the info. This doctor is only running the T4, TSH, and also a 24 hour urine free cortisol. When he was an infant (he is 5 now) his first pediatrian went after a hypothyroid diagnosis because hypotonia is a symptom of hypothyroid in children. Also, the soft spot on the top of his head would not close, it was wide open until he was about ...

Hi, I must sound crazy because I am always on here trying to back up theories for my youngest son who is not my Celiac (as far as I know anyway). We just saw this week an endocrinologist for the second time in a year. I really don't like this guy at all but thought I would give him a second chance. To make a long story short, Lucas is gaining tremendous...

ARCHIVED Update On My Lil One
Nic replied to janelyb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi I just want to add to my support because during the diagnosis process for celiac they believed my son had Hirchsbrungs (sp) too. I sympothize with your son's symptoms as my son also could not poop at all. Even to pass soft poop was close to impossible and nothing helped, enimas, suppositories, laxitives, nothing. He also had the barium enima at 4 years... -

We had the same problem with my son. After going gluten free he was doing fine until about 6 month later when all the symptoms came back. He had a RAST test done (allergy test) and came up negative to everything. Suffered on for another 2 years before he had his second colonoscopy which showed white bumps in his colon which the doctor said signified an... -

Has anyone here ever had a reaction to the approved wafers for Celiacs? I don't forsee a problem for my son because he is not overly sensitive, I am just curious. Nicole -
Hi, my non celiac son is having some medical problems. Last year during some blood work for other things, I asked the doctor to check him for Celiac. Here is what the test reads: Antigliadin Abs, IgA 1 anything over 4 beging positive Antigliadin Abs, IgG 9 anything over 9 being positive t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 1 anything over 5 being...

ARCHIVED Should You Thank The Catholic Church?
Nic replied to Alexolua's topic in Publications & Publicity
Carla, Maybe I misunderstood, but I really thought she said it was just for the first communion. Then why do they even make gluten free ones if they cannot be used? At my aunt's church they have a child with celiac and they allow her to use a gluten free one but maybe they are bending the rules. Nicole -

I registered my son this year for CCD classes at our church. I explained at this time about his Celiac Disease and that he cannot be fed anything in class. The head of the program brought up the host as he will be making his communion next year. She said that for only the first communion he would need a host that contains some wheat. She said that they... -
Since he has hypotonia (poor muscle tone) his mouth muscles are very week. He cannot chew well and since pasta is easy to swallow, he pretty much only ate pasta for the paste 5 years (with the exception of fruits and vegetables but it was pasta everyday). It was a bad habit but it was a way to get him to eat. Meanwhile since he doesn't chew well he swallows...
