  1. I agree with all of the posters above. But also make sure your daughter has a firm understanding of everything she can't eat so that the next time someone does something stupid like this, she will know to say she can't eat that. I know it is hard with kids, my son was so much better at sticking to his diet when he was 4 than he is now at 7. Make sure when...
  2. My son really likes Westsoy rice milk. When we can't get that we use Shoprite brand and he is fine with it. The Westsoy just seems to be a little thicker and more white which makes it really look more like milk.
  3. Hi, my son is a celiac and also dairy intolerant. He really misses mac and cheese and the only packaged one we could find was weird looking (cheese was dark) and he wouldn't eat it (he didn't like the taste either). So I have tried to make my own twice now. I used tinkyada pasta and a vegan cheese from the Galaxy brand of dairy free cheeses. What I did...
  4. Hi, Enterolab is a specialty lab that helps to diagnose food intolerances. It is not done through blood. For genetic testing they take a swab from in the mouth. For gluten, milk, soy, etc intolerances they take a stool test. It is done through the mail as Enterolab works as an on-line service. Some doctors seem to accept its results but many do not...

  6. I teach kindergarten and I have several in my class this year who write there numbers backwards in the exact same way. They can ask me "how do you write 24?". And I will respond first you write 2 and then a 4 but when I look at what they have written it will say 42. I wouldn't be that concerned about that but her other symptoms sound like they could be...
  7. Do you eat oats successfully? My son loved and really misses oatmeal but I wasn't sure there were any that are considered safe to eat. If you do eat them, what kind? My son is not super sensitive. He is worse with milk I think. NIcole
  8. What I have asked of my son's teacher is to send a note home asking that no parent bring in food without advanced notice. This way I get a chance to get anything in the house I may need. I also stick to that rule with my students. Our principal has very strong feelings on birthday cakes in school. She says, and I quote, "this is not Chucky Cheese people...
  9. I didn't know they served gluten free pasta. I looked at their gluten free menu once and didn't see that. Do they all do that? If so, that is great news. NIcole
  10. Hi, my son was 4 when diagnosed and is now 7. The thing with gluten free packaged foods is that some are really good and others a not, so you just have to keep trying until you find her favorites and then stick to them. In my opinion, when it comes to cookies and such you cannot go wrong with Kinnickinick. They even make a really good gluten-free/dairy...
  11. I am a kindergarten teacher (teaching for 10 years now in a inner city school district) and I am also the mother of a Celiac. I see both sides. But I feel I really have to add that in the 10 years I have been teaching I have been confronted by plenty of parents about things they like or don't like. I have never, ever, felt myself pull away from that persons...
  12. I have not done the trial yet, I was waiting to see the doctor first. He said he would biopsy for celiac while in there so I don't want to take him off until then. If it comes out negative I will do the trial. Thank you for the help. Nicole
  13. Hi, as some may know I have been on a quest for a cause to my youngest son's medical problems (older son is a Celiac). His symptoms are insomnia, weight gain, constipation, frequent stomach aches, leg pains, and heart burn. I took him to see the gastro that diagnosed my other son. I told him that our pediatrician tested him for the antibodies 2 years...
  14. Hi, my son's are long past formula now but I was wondering how far back I can trace gluten problems. Does anyone know if Carnation Good Start is gluten free? I looked up ingredients but couldn't find anything except something saying they added carbohydrates to it. Nicole
  15. I was recently googling insomnia because my 5 year old (non celiac as far as we know) has never been able to sleep. He is also constipated. When I googled these symptoms "food allergies" kept coming up but more specifically, gluten. We have an appointment with a gastro for him tomorrow but at the very least I think he is gluten intolerant. It would be...
  16. Thank you for all the support, it is nice to know I am not over reacting. This actually opened my eyes to the fact that now that Jacob is getting older he might be more willing to cheat. When he was 4-5 he wouldn't have considered it a possibility. Makes me worry about what he does at school. Iwill be talking to the CCD teacher. thanks again. Nicole
  17. I registered Jacob (now 7 and in first grade) for CCD this past summer for this school year. I put it in writing that he is on a strick gluten free dairy free diet and should not be given any food without my consent. They understood. The first day of class in September I went in to speak to the teacher (who happens to be the parent of a set of twins he...

    ARCHIVED Pf Chang's

Hi, we want to take my son to PF Chang's tonight but I am wondering if they can make fried rice gluten free as my son really misses it. Has anyone ever had fried rice there? Nicole
  19. I also just bring a cupcake and pizza for him. I don't even call ahead to ask if it is ok, I feel like they are still getting their money for my kid being there why should they care if he needs special food. I have never had a problem with him getting cc from play areas. Nicole
  20. Hi, I believe my youngest son is having trouble with gluten. In the past he has come up negative on blood work for Celilac (his brother, grandfather, aunt, and some cousins have it). So I think I am going to try the diet and see how it goes. My concern is that my oldest son has a celiac diagnosis and I have had no trouble with the school cooperating. ...
  21. Yes, even if the doctor says he tests negative I would still try the diet. And I feel as though with him not having the "celiac gene" and in the past he has been negative for antibodies, he will most likely be negative. So is all this doctor business just delaying what I will have to do anyway? I will ask on the parent board about the school issue. That...
  22. It is so funny how this thing is coming together. Up until now I never paid any attention to when his "tummy" aches occured because I thought the genetic testing ruled Celiac out. But, yesterday he ate pasta for dinner and had a stomach ache. Today he ate toast for breakfast and another stomach ache. For lunch mac and cheese and another one again. I...
  23. It is funny that I never really thought of his sleeplessness as a possible result of gluten. Everything else came to mind like hypothyroid and things like that but never this. I didn't realize how many symptoms can come from a food intolerance. Interestingly though, he went for a sleepover at my mom's on Saturaday and ate regular pasta for dinner. At...
  24. Hi, was your son unable to stay asleep at night? I am trying to think back to when this started. I know as a new born he got up the appropriate times per night, just for feedings and back to sleep. Then somewhere before his first birthday (I don't know when now, maybe when I started cereal) he started waking anywhere from 5-8 times per night. Eventually...
