  1. Companies are coming up with new and creative ways to cover their butts
  2. It's certainly irresponsible, but so are happy meals 5 nights a week with an ice cream follow-up in front of the Cartoon Network. I think the only way to determine if non-compliance with the diet is abuse is through the courts. Is there any kind of precedent? Like with a diabetic child?
  3. Here's something from the McCann's Ireland FAQ: Gluten Free Are McCann's Oat products gluten free? All McCann’s oat products are processed in a dedicated oatmeal mill that handles only oatmeal. In the supply chain between farm and mill, there is a possible cross contamination with other grains, such as wheat and barley but we reckon that the level o...
  4. My first glutening was from Kettle Black Pepper chips. It was bad. I don't trust them AT ALL!
  5. I'm a huuuuuuge Grease fan! Yeah, the dirtiest part in Greas the movie that alluded to the dirtier play, was when John Travolta ran around with saran wrap...it was a larger part of the song in the play. I won't say what the saran wrap is for, but it ain't playing safe! I won't watch Grease 2 on principle, just like I won't watch any Bring it On sequels...
  6. Ireland, Italy, and the Scandanavian countries are the biggest, I think
  7. Oh, also on my not-my-friend list: Kettle Chips Quaker Arby's McDonalds Outback (well, one location, anyway) The irony is I usually don't react to the mainstream products, it's the ones marked gluten-free that give me trouble
  8. Here's a bunch of scholarly articles on celiacs and oats: https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid=14
  9. Also, Rich Chocolate Ovaltine is gluten-free...that's the only flavor of those that is, though. I called on it in March, I believe.
  10. h. pylori is checked through blood (they've done this test on me about 8000 times ), although they can look for it in an endoscopy as well.
  11. I found the thread you were talking about, frustratedneicey. Man, that did get ugly! But I don't think it had much to do with you, but more the two people fighting. One I've never seen before and the other was banned Glad you stuck around
  12. I thought the middle also, but I also figured that people usually don't display pictures of themselves where they aren't the center
  13. Make sure to check which books you get, not all of them are for kids
  14. That's probably my second favorite... and also the one about the Sarah Synthia Sylvia Stout
  15. It was Shel Silverstein He also wrote Where the Sidewalk Ends, A Light in the Attic, and the Giving Tree, among others. My favorite poem of his: I will not play at tug o' war. I'd rather play at hug o' war, Where everyone hugs Instead of tugs, Where everyone giggles And rolls on the rug, Where everyone kisses, And everyone grins...
  16. I'd try poking around www.alamoceliac.org , it's the website for the GIG in Austin, San Antonio, and Corpus Christie. I don't know if there's dr. info on there or not, but you could always call the San Antonio contact and see if they know anyone.
  17. LOL! I just had the mental image of an udder producing eggs when milked...ewww
  18. It's a Kraft brand, any wheat, barley, rye, or oats will be clearly listed
  19. Whoops, meant to say that's how diabetes was ruled out for me and how they figured out which hypoglycemia I have. If you're hypoglycemic first thing in the morning, it's fasting hypoglycemia, which is considered a pre-diabetes sign, or at least a risk factor. I've never checked my blood during a crash, I chickened out before I got that far.
  20. I tested a couple times after Vincent mentioned it, but it gave me the ooglies to stick myself, so I stopped. I'm in the "hmm, I'm starting to get a bit shaky, better eat something" camp of hypoglycemics. It helps to just eat balanced and often throughout the day... I have blood tests run occasionally, including fasting, and I'm always in normal ranges...
  21. I'm exhausted just looking at all of them! Sheesh, that's a lot of kiddos!
  22. Eggs are not dairy, because they come from chickens, not bovine animals. They're safe if you're gluten-free/dairy free. They're often confused with dairy since they're stored in the same place in the grocery store
  23. Maltodextrin is a safe ingredient in the US
  24. On the verge of going back to being gluten-free, I'm remembering all the companies that are on my "not-my-friend" list, in that they said their products were gluten-free and they weren't. Here's what I got: Amy's (everything but rice mac & cheese) Bob's Red Mill (all-purpose gluten-free flour mix) Pamela's (baking mix) Kellogg...
  25. What's also disgusting is that they aren't denying that a lot of these kids have celiac disease, they are just reccomending that it go undiagnosed to spare families the trouble. Good grief.
