I am SO frustrated. This poor lady has what sounds to me like every symptom in the book. Recent 35-pound weight loss Intestinal issues diabetes thyroid disease rheumatoid arthritis and most recently, a supremely itchy rash all over her body. Apparently, the doctors think she may have lupus, or that the rash is one associated with rheumatoid...

ARCHIVED Celiac Diagnosis With Negative Gene Test?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to SwimKat31's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
RA is rheumatoid arthritis, often diagnosed YEARS before celiac, and symptoms frequently improve or disappear on a gluten-free (and sometimes casein-free) diet. -
ARCHIVED Gluen Free Bread Crumbs Bells Seasonings -newbie
Fiddle-Faddle replied to faz240's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have a covered gas grill, you can bake bread in your grill. Use an oven thermometer inside the grill til you get the hang of how high to turn it to get the temp you want. If possible, light only one side of the grill, and put the pan on the other side (that's called indirect heat). A bread machine might help, too, or a large toaster oven, if you... -

ARCHIVED Mercury Poses Health Risks...
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I never had a single cavity til I was 16, and then it was on a baby tooth that didn't have a secondary tooth under it (I have 3 of those ). But I had a gluten-lite diet (my mom didn't know about gluten, she just thought that bread and pasta were empty calories and never served them except bread for sandwiches at lunch, and then it was stone-ground whole... -
ARCHIVED Blueberry Buckle Coffee Cake
Fiddle-Faddle posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I combined 3 different recipes for this. I used betterbatter gluten-free flour mix, which already has xanthan gum mixed in, so I omitted the teaspoon of xanthan gum. In this heat, I hate to turn on the oven, so I used our grill, which worked wonderfully--you just have to remember to put the pan on indirect heat and turn the pan halfway through. 1 cup granulated... -
You don't need to close your account, you know. You never know when you might want to post to ask for info for a friend or relative, or you might want to check back here if your symptoms don't clear up when you are unstressed! You would be amazed how many of us were told we didn't have celiac, and how many of us had tests that were misread or were even given...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Eat Honeycom Cereal?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to krisb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There are a couple of articles on celiac.com quoting studies that say that for many celiacs, oats do NOT produce any measurable reaction. (My immediate question would be to find out if those studies were funded by the oat industry or by the pharm industry, but if they are truly independent studies, then I could believe the results.) As for the shared... -
ARCHIVED Looking For A Celiac Friend For My 7yrs Old Daughter
Fiddle-Faddle replied to celiac dad's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There are so many kids with peanut or dairy allergies--would your daughter feel better hanging out with someone else with a food allergy which isn't the same as hers? You could contact the teacher at school, explain the situation, and ask him/her to put you in touch with other parents dealing with food allergies. My kids have friends who are allergic... -
ARCHIVED Mercury Poses Health Risks...
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
As far as I know, my dentist toes the ADA party line--but she did tell me that if I ever notice a strong metallic taste in my mouth, then it would mean that it's time for the amalgams to come out, and that I would need it done one quadrant at a time. But she never said anything about any other precautions, so I am very leery of going to her for the removal... -
ARCHIVED Fiber One Bars
Fiddle-Faddle replied to blondebombshell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are you eating plenty of "stone fruits?" These are pears, peaches, plums, mangoes, and apricots--all the fruits that have large stones (pits) instead of tiny seeds. They are easy to digest, and have a ton of fiber and help to move things along. I think avocados qualify, too, but am not as sure about them. And, yes, if you have an intolerance to wheat... -

Sorry, Tom, I hate them, too (and I wanted to like them)!! Maybe it's a weird taste bud thing, like cilantro, where some people love it and others can't stand it? Shay, can you post your yummy thin pancake/tortilla recipe? That sounds like exactly what I'm looking for! -
ARCHIVED Pre-packaged Kellogg's Rice Krispie Treats?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to scott-in-pa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Malt does not come from wheat, it comes from barley. Barley IS a gluten-containing grain, but it is not one of the "top 8" allergens that are required to be listed. Food manufacturers are not required to list gluten, only the top 8 allergens. -
ARCHIVED Going Gluten Free Before Biopsy
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Farmer Brown's Cow's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Aleshia, I really believe that your GI and the GI's at Children's Hospital are wrong wrong WRONG. It takes WAY more than 5-7 days to destroy the villi enough to get a positive biopsy. Most of the studies I have seen quoted on this board call for a minimum of 4 slices of bread for a minimum of 2 months, and even then, there is a possibility of having a... -
I agree--can you post a typical day's worth of everything that goes in your mouth, including meds? Not trying to be nosy here, trying to pin down what might be causing you problems. With so many of us here, with so many different perspectives, somebody's bound to notice SOMETHING! One other thing hits me--a few people here have had terrible troubles...

Umm, correct me if I'm missing something here, but WHAT THE HECK KIND OF RESPONSE IS THAT? It doesn't say anything!!! -
I'm sorry you are still having trouble. It's good that you're looking into Lyme. You might also look into mercury toxicity (either from dental amalgam fillings or from vaccines), systemic yeast infections, and other food intolerances. There are also other bacterial infections that might attack the gut. Look up all the side effects of every med you...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Celiac Daughter, No Symptoms
Fiddle-Faddle replied to rce's mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, many of us here have GERD, as well as autoimmune thyroid disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune issues that seem to be directly triggered by GLUTEN, even in the absence of "typical" celiac symptoms. I'm another one who went most of my life with no obvious symptoms (except GERD and Hashimoto's)--and I won't go near gluten, at... -
ARCHIVED Chronic Stomach Pain--while Gluten-free
Fiddle-Faddle replied to healthynewman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Not to scare you or anything, but celiacs are at higher risk (especially if undiagnosed for a long period of time) for B-cell lymphoma. Did your doctor already rule that out? Many people here have issues either on top of celiac, or that cause gluten intolerance, such as Lyme Disease, mercury toxicity, and systemic yeast infections. The capsule endoscopy... -
ARCHIVED Scared Of Endoscopy
Fiddle-Faddle replied to leadmeastray88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've had 2 endoscopies, both with just the throat spray, no sedation, so I remember it all. It was not pleasant, but no worse than I expected, and actually quicker than I expected. I had no problems after the first one, but the scope must have scratched my vocal chords on the second one, because I had some mild damage that was permanent--I haven't been... -

Maybe you can print out this thread for your friends!! Are you a student in Manhattan? I went to school there--great place to be a student! And yes, Cary Grant ROCKS. His Girl Friday, Bringing up Baby, Philadelphia Story, North by Northwest--oh, don't get me started! (SIGH) -
ARCHIVED Airplane Food/taking Food On Airplanes
Fiddle-Faddle replied to leadmeastray88's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Be aware that policies differ from airport to airport, and you depend on the whim of the security person. I've had tuna, cheese, cream cheese, and other foods confiscated, as well as yogurt cups that were only 3 ounces. That's a great idea, bo freeze Larabars and other foods to use to keep food cold! I bet you could pack leftover nut butter and... -

Welcome aboard!! FYI, most brands of the crab sticks they use in California Rolls contain wheat starch. Sounds like you need new friends! Your mom is obviously trying to be supportive. How about if you and she buy a whole bunch of gluten free mixes, flours, and xanthan gum, and google gluten-free versions of every recipe you've ever loved... -
