There are Ulta stores too, I have one right near my house. It was the first place I was able to find Bare Essentuals until a Sephora opened last summer. They have a great selection!

I love Starbucks!! Last time I checked everything was gluten-free (except like CarlaB said the malted ones and they have a brownie frap that actually has brownie pieces in it). That being said if you want to order a frap, they suggest you ask the barista to really wash out the blender because a lot of times they just kind of rinse them, thus posing the risk of CC.

I ordered the sampler pack a week or so ago and it was a flat rate of $3.99. I ordered it on Monday and got it on Thursday...I thought that was pretty quick! Most of their stuff seems pretty good so far. The shampoo is hard to get used to since, like they said above, it does not really foam.
The shea butter is AWESOME!!!

Thanks so much for the replies! I guess I'll look into meeting with a homeopathic doctor or a nutritionist next!

I work at a dentist's office, and in the past two years I have seen about three patients with celiac disease, none of whom have had significantly bad dental problems. I have always had really good teeth also (knock on wood!)and I was not diagnosed until I was 21.
But as we all know, this disease affects everyone different so you never know.
I agree, it can't hurt to have her follow the gluten-free diet, seems like her chances are pretty good of having it since at least several of your other children have it. Good luck getting it figured out!!!

Hmmmm - that does not sound so comforting to me!!!
What do you make of it?
Thanks for posting.

Is Eukanuba gluten-free? My vet strongly recommended IAMs, but clearly thats a no no because it has a ton of gluten in it. I have heard good things about Eukanuba. My cats only eat dried food and one kitty is in need of losing a few pounds.
my family's dog (he lives with my parents) is on science diet to manage his weight. is that only available through the vet?
There are some types of Science Diet that are prescription and are only available from a vet. Regular Science Diet foods are available at PetSmart and PetCo....

I say at least it's publicity, something that may get people thinking. The way I see it, most jokes have the potential to offend someone. It's not really any different than a blonde joke or a gender joke.

Although I have not been there personally, I have heard about a gluten-free chinese restaurant in Nederland, which is right in that area. Also, there is an ice cream place on Pearl Street (in Boulder) that has gluten-free ice cream. Have not been there either (and don't know the names either, sorry!!!!), but I had a friend who lived up there and highly recommended both. I'll see if I can dig up the names for you sometime today or tomorrow.

Getting a little bit off the subject, does anyone know about good cat foods that are gluten-free? I guess I'll check out that web site too and see if he has any on there....
Thanks

I think dasani water tastes weird so I do not really ever drink it (I'm very picky about water, yeah, I know, I'm weird!) But, I think it is awesome that you wrote them!! I think it would be so cool if we all saturated the market with letters to tons of companies. I think this would get the point across to some stubborn companies so they would finally realize how important it is for them to know (and care) about the ingredients of their products!
Keep us posted!

I also suffer from depression when I ingest gluten. I suffered horribly from it before I was diagnosed with celiac. Within a year of going gluten-free, I was able to stop all my meds and have not had a problem since (except when I get glutened, of course; and then it's pretty mild, comparatively).

Kristen - I can certainly relate to what you are going through. A few months ago I started having migraines again after five years of being gluten-free with no problems. I started taking a closer look at what I had been eating and found out that there was a seasoning that I was using that has gluten in it! I don't know how that happened because usually I am soooooo careful. It just showed me that I was getting a little lax about my diet when I really need to stay adamant about checking and RE-checking ingredients all the time! Also, I had never been too worried about using gluten-free soap/shampoo, stuff like that, but from now on, that's all I'm going to use! I just ordered a bunch of stuff from the gfsoap.com and can't wait to get it.
Also, if you are taking a lot of advil and such, I read a study that said taking those types of meds can actually CAUSE headaches when taken over long periods of time, so perhaps this is ADDING to your symptoms??? Who knows...maybe something to look into...
Good luck, I hope you start to feel better soon!

Have you considered that maybe your migraines could be caused by other food intolerances? Mine were caused by tomatoes, and got much better when I stopped eating them.Ursula - how were you able to figure this out? Did you happen to do an elimation diet? I have been wanting to try doing this, but don't know where to get reliable information on how to do so. If this is what you did, could you tell me where you got the info to do it?
Thanks!

I think it's a great idea, it would have been SO helpful when I was first diagnosed!!! I actually have never bought gluten-free stuff off the internet, but have just started looking into it. There is a whole big gluten-free world I never knew existed, simply because I just never felt I needed to check it out. I always thought that living in Denver (a decent sized city) I would always be able to get whatever I needed locally...
Good luck on Friday night and let us know how it goes!

I would agree, if you seem to be benefiting from the gluten-free diet then stay with it. Your body is your best indicator. A problem I've run into is how some doctors really aren't that educated when it comes to celiac disease. After all, look at EVERYTHING that can go wrong with the human body...doctors are only human, they can't know everything about everything! I've had doctors tell me that I don't need to completely cut it out of my diet and if I take a prescription that contains gluten, it's not really a big deal. Well, we all know that is not true! Also, celiac is such an "individual disease." I have had friends diagnosed with no other symptoms than blisters on their hands, or because they were told they had ADD and decided to seach out another explanation than accept that diagnosis. One of my many symptoms was a skin condition that no dermatologist could diagnose. I always got these big, circular, deep sores on my skin that would not go away for weeks, if not months at a time! Well, guess what...when I started the gluten-free diet, the sores went away! Unfortunately, I still have many scars from it that may never go away, but at least the sores did!! So if you have a rash that disappears with this diet, I say keep it up... Especially because no matter how knowledgable your physician is, medicine is in and of itself imperfect.
Good luck!

FYI - I had been using Vaseline Intensive Care Total Moisture for dry skin and it contains "Avena Sativa (oat)" so I don't think all the vaseline lotions are gluten-free...

I also have done pilates and yoga - I love them both! It does take time to get the breathing and moving coordination down, but even I (a huge klutz) have managed it!! The nice thing about both of these is that they are designed for people to go at their own pace and physical ability level. I also own my own exercise ball and I would say you can't beat the ab workout you can get on one of those!!
I would say it's very important to have an instructor that keeps talking you through the movement/breathing thing throughout the whole class (at least as first), my sister in law and I tried a class with an instructor who mentioned it only once at the beginning of the class and that was it, she was lost since she had never done it before and ended up never going back
Good luck!

Thanks for all the honest replies! That's basically how I was feeling, but thought I would check and see what some fellow celiac's thought...
P.S. jerseyangel - cute kitty!

So far, it's only celiac for me also.... Thank God!!!
I was diagnosed when I was 21, sounds like that is fairly young?!

My sister-in-law has just recently started selling these products and keeps asking me to try them. She has checked into them and they have it written down that the products are gluten-free, however alot of them contain barley germ or barley bran, and oat germ or oat bran, something like that, though I can't remember EXACLTY what they were. She even called and spoke with one of the biochemists for the products and he said that these portions of the grains do not contain gluten, that the gluten comes from somewhere else in the grains. He went on to say that nothing is 100% gluten-free, that it is virtually impossible to do this... Has anyone ever heard this before?
This really concerns me because I'm one who is not ultra sensitive to gluten so if I get a tiny amount I probably would never know that I'm doing damage to my body! Yikes!
Thanks,
Laurie

I use mission corn tortillas too, I always try to support the brands that support us by telling us they are gluten free! I use them for everything since our bread just doesn't do it for me...
I really like putting turkey breast with cheese and mustard on a tortilla,
Also, I find they are really good as a breakfast burrito with eggs, cheese, salsa and sour cream..YUMMY!
-
You mentioned tortillas in your first post - I don't eat them, so I am not aware which brands are gluten-free - what about those?
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I eat MISSION brand corn tortillas all the time. They are really good AND it says Gluten Free right on the back of the package!!!!

I ate there last month, and at the particular one that I went to the manager was really helpful. He brought out ingredients book that they have and showed me the ingredients of the things I was interested in (most of their stuff seemed to have wheat). I ended up getting salmon plain with unseasoned veggies. He promised he would personally make sure that an area of the grill was cleaned and that my food would all be kept away from everything else! I didn't seem to have any problems. So, I'd say it was a good experience, but unfortunately with us celiac's, a lot of times we are dependent on how helpful a person wants to be...
And apparently, their guest relations guy doesn't really like to "READ" his emails!!!

My new favorite is the bread that Whole Foods makes... The brand is The Gluten-Free Bakehouse, so far, I would have to say their bread is the closest I have found to "real" bread.... My personal favorite is the sundried tomato and roasted garlic bread....
Good Luck!
