  1. LOL...this is the thread...I didn't look at the title heading..ha, ha...
  2. Yeah...they had about six of these articles (different newspapers/news stations, of course) and I was going to post them this morning, but didn't have time. Will put under my news thread
  3. Wow....quite an error to make . Thanks for sharing.
  4. Regular chocolate syrup is gluten-free...I've used it before and have a bottle in the house and it's gluten-free.
  5. Currently 5'4"...was 5'0" at diagnosis last year...and I grew only about 2 inches from celiac, then another 2 after sorting out the malrotation (see sig.)...being 14, I have a couple years to grow another....8 inches, lol
  6. The study was conducted before McCanns had dealt with their contamination issues. Additionally, most celiacs will not react to oats because the structure isn't similar to that of glutens. I do agree that it's good to tell other people that your child can't have wheat, rye, barley, or OATS since you want to be very selective about which oats.
  7. Wow...that's disgusting! so I'm glad you said something to them--
  8. Good idea, Michael...there's pre-diagnosis--which doesn't apply to newly diagnosed, and post-diag. is about later post-diag. primarily and recovery, treatment, etc. It would be good to have a newbies section...or "Just diagnosed"...
  9. Open Original Shared Link -- about the communion. Nothing's going to change, but at least someone's trying. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  10. Some options...I would recommend that you find gluten-free restaurants first and then see how they can accomodate to dairy. I think it'd be easier to find restaurants to accomodate to dairy-free than gluten-free and since many celiacs also have problems with dairy or soy or other common allergens, you might have better luck w/ a gluten-free restaurant. ...
  11. I found that site when I was searching google. Here's the site that I thought was for San Francisco, but was actually San Diego...lol, two Sans so I got them mixed up. Oh, well, if you plan on visiting there anytime soon: Open Original Shared Link
  12. Wandering hermit, I agree that the Ener-G rice loaf tastes terrible. Did you try the tapioca loaf? A little thinner and less...drywall-ish. No bread is perfect, but that's the closest I've found. Also try lightly toasting it.
  13. Yay! Anything we can do to "help you" through it. I am sincerely thrilled for you...I can't imagine not being able to walk, so this is must be an amazing victory for you. Glad you got through the weekend
  14. If you really, really, really need to use oats, use McCanns or Country Choice...DO NOT USE QUAKER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES--major contamination, nor any others besides those listed. McCanns claims to have eliminated the one contamination problem they were having--one machine that was contaminating the oats, and now they claim to be gluten-free and even cleaning...
  15. Oh, sidenote...get the bread mix and follow instructions, but flatten it in a pizza pan for the crust. It works better than the acutal "crust" mix itself. And if you don't like it as pizza, you might like the bread balls dipped in something.

    ARCHIVED "celiac Isn't Hereditary"

Definitely... when asked why celiac wasn't better known, Dr. Green said that it's because pharmeceuticals plays an enormous role in what medical students get taught... if there's money to be made from medication, they'll spend lots of money to make sure the soon-to-be doctors know about it.
  17. I can definitely agree on that--I think we really are good friends when we're not engaged in cyber warfare about interpreting rules and posts...
  18. Chebe is absolutely terrific! You'll almost definitely have to order it offline; see Open Original Shared Link . Shipping is free and you pay less per mix if you order in bulk...order small at first, though, to make sure you like it. I have it at least once a week, and when there are leftovers we freeze them and I sometimes put one in the toaster oven...

    ARCHIVED "celiac Isn't Hereditary"

Definitely is...yes, get some reputable articles to show--while 1 in 133 in the US have it, it's 1/20 and 1/40 of the people w/ relatives (1st and 2nd degree)
  20. ARGH!! I saw an amazing website with all these restaurants and healthfood stores in San Francisco.....didn't bookmark it...so sorry.
  21. Entirely a hoax....you see those every now and then... And as you said, a GI would definitely have told you...and if there was already a cure, we wouldn't still be researching for one. There are many hoaxes...such as one medication type thing that claims to attach to the gluten and prevent it from hurting your intestines....all scams...

  23. Oops...I reached the end of page one, wanted to reply about Yoplait, and didn't even see that there's a pg. 2......... that's the 2nd time I've done that. Sorry for duplicating...
  24. Yep--just read labels on Yoplait--gluten won't be hidden under natural flavors and the like. I believe that all are gluten-free, unless there's some special kind with granola in the top (so, all the whips, regular, custard style, etc., etc.) I think Yoplait is one of the only flavored yogurts that can be verified as gluten-free.
