Welcome. Find something that has been a constant feeling for you. For instance, my grandmother always commented on my dark circles under my eyes. After going gluten free they are gone. Now when I see the circles I know I have been glutened. Also acid reflux is worse. You will start to notice the difference.

ARCHIVED Does Glutening Bring On Reflux Flare-ups?
JodiC replied to megsylvan2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I take Prevacid for the reflux and hate the fact that I even have to. Did anyone else's voice change due to inflammation of the vocal chords? This is also caused by acid going up the back of the esophogas instead of the front. Had to pay yet another doc for that answer. Doing the gluten challenge caused my stomach to have peptic apperaring erosions, delayed... -
ARCHIVED Products I Have To Use For Work
JodiC replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Lister - I too had to transfer with my job due to celiac. I worked in a nursing home and had to feed the residents. My doctor told me that I wasn't even supposed to be cutting their food or handling it. They wouldn't allow me to wear gloves while handling the food because they thought it would look bad. After all this is their home. Even at home... -
I too have fibromyalgia and wasn't sleeping. My doc put me on amitriptylin 10 mg 1 hour before bed. What a godsend!!!!!!!!!! I am able to sleep through the night and the pain is so minimal that I can get through the day. I am even going back to work. This drug is also an antidepressant, but is very affordable. It also works on some of my digestive...

ARCHIVED Bruising? Vitamin K?
JodiC replied to elfkin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just looked in my medical book regarding vitamin K supplemation. It says: "It is only needed in small amounts. It is used mainly for blood clotting but also for kidney function and bone metabolism. Requires some dietary fat for absorption. Bacteria living in the intestines produce about half the bod's needs, the rest comes from diet. Good food sources... -
ARCHIVED All Of The Healing Is Reversing
JodiC replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hang in there. All the testing and doctors can be very overwhelming. You can keep the costs down by being knowlegable about the disease. Do research!!!!!!! Read everything you can. Print it out and take it with you to the appointments. When you go to see the doc be specific about the tests you want run. Explain that money is an issue and you cannot... -
I don't know if this is true or not and can't remember where I read it. I heard that after a certain age Celiac will go dormant and than will show up again around puberty. I had my kids tested at ages 4 and 5 and they were all negative despite having symptoms. Someone told me (or I read it) that I should wait and retest them around puberty. Any advice...

ARCHIVED For Women - Question About Periods....
JodiC replied to DingoGirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had very long and painful periods also before diagnosis. Unfortuately, we didn't diagnose in time and I ended up with cervical dysplasia (stage 3) and then Endometriosis. I ended up with a complete hystorectomy at 27 and menopause. Celiac is the cause for all of these problems so if you are not clearing up on the diet I would definately check with your... -
ARCHIVED How Did You Acquire Celiac?
JodiC replied to tasha's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just found out I had mono at some point in my life though I can't remember when. I think I had symptoms my whole life but only showed up when I was with grandparents and dad. My mom was an atkins fan and never cooked anything out of a box. I remember as a child wishing we could go to McDonalds, now I'm glad we didn't. Ended up with anemia at 12 and... -
I went back because I started having new ab pain. I was also extremely tired despite being gluten free. My family doc was stumped and through the research I was doing found out about Dr. Murray and had her refer me. I too had heart trouble... turned out to be low potassium. Now I have a abnormal T wave that needs to be explained. My advice is to find...

If you can find a Shaklee distributor I highly recommend the Optiflora supplement. These will definitely rid you of the extra yeast.

ARCHIVED Tested Negative For Celiac
JodiC replied to Mo92109's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Depending where you live you could try a biofeedback machine. These will tell you what you are allergic or intolerant to. You could also contact YORK INDUSTRIES (out of New York). They do a blood test for all the major allergens. Sometimes other conditions can cause your symptoms like endometriosis. This is what finally alerted my doctor and me to start... -
ARCHIVED Pain Lower Right Side
JodiC replied to Sharon K. Wolfgram's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I too had this pain. Turned out to be my liver. Because of celiac our bodies organs respond differently to gluten. Some people's livers will send off extra enzymes to deal with the "toxic" problem. My levels were only slightly elevated but is something my GI is monitoring closely. I am actually due for blood tests next month to see if they have come... -
I'm pretty new to these message boards and was wondering how do I know if someone has answered a question I have asked. If you can help it would really be appreciated.

ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed With Dh, Need Help
JodiC replied to fastcatkerry's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
What Kraft cheeses contain gluten? I had called them and they claimed that tey don't and it would be listed on the label. I have Kraft American singles here and cannot see which ingredient is gluten? How can you tell? Thanks for the advice. -
YES, this man is wonderful. When I first saw him he ordered tests that no one else had thought of. In a matter of 4 days I had seen so many specialists it was hard to keep track of. By the end of my stay there I knew exactly what I was dealing with. Celiac (which we did end up doing a challenge for - still positive), Sjogren's, Fibromyalgia, ostiopenia...

ARCHIVED I Want To Quit The Diet
JodiC replied to againstthegrain's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just did a 3 month gluten challenge (doctor ordered). It almost shut down my intestines, so it is not worth it. Not to mention the fact that now I have to remove the gluten from my system all over again. This is a disease that needs to get the recognition of the medical community so that research can be funded and a cure can be found. The fact that... -

ARCHIVED Celiac
JodiC replied to Terrilyn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am fairly new also. I was diagnosed 1 year ago (Feb). The Celiac.com ingredient lists are great. They have helped me with shopping and chosing the right products. Even after a year I still find myself doing things without thinking so you have to be on your toes constantly. I always knew there was something going on with my health and was thrilled to... -
ARCHIVED Additional Testing
JodiC replied to laluka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Not that I know of except maybe DNA testing. Is there some question to whether or not you are Celiac? I went through that after symptoms returned. I did a 3 month challenge and have even more damage. Be careful of that one.
