ARCHIVED Hospital Ran The Wrong Test
AndreaB replied to chrissy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Even though they'll cover the expense it's still frustrating to have to take him in again and wait another few weeks for the results. -

Peace, I know it's tied in with weight but I don't know why you would not have started again with some weight gain. I have heard of people going through a really early menopause although for some reason I think you're in your 20's. Laura......where are you? Anxiously awaiting to hear how your appointment went today. Rachel, Know... -
What a great idea with the menu sheets! So glad you've shared and congratulations on getting through the process.

ARCHIVED Pain Meds After C-section
AndreaB replied to ginghamkim's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I wasn't gluten free during my pregnancies or sections. Found out when my youngest was 3 months old. Aside from the narcotic drug they give you to take home they also gave me extra strength ibuprofen I think it was. I always went off the narcotic meds within a day or two of coming home. The drug I was on with my first caused me weird dreams and my... -

That's a lot of water. I never drank a lot of soda but I did have it occassionaly. Water wouldn't have any flavor if you were used to the sugar water. I think many people's bodies tend to break down over time with all the abuse heaped on it (in one form or another). Just depends on when, younger or older. -

You could also get the ELISA IgE/IgG test. My doctor uses US Biotek. We did that with our family. You can get false positives and well as false negatives with those but it gives you something to start with, if you want to spend the money. -

Don't forget, you need protein which is acidic. Lots of non-acidic veggies though, especially if you aren't eating fruit. I think my diet tends toward the acidic side as well. I don't eat enough fruit/veggies. Especially when we are super low on funds before payday (like now) Five more days. I'm getting tired being Patti. Been on this... -

Rachel, You would think with what you're eating that you would be acidic. Water is alkaline though so that would help if you drink lots. Hurry up after work. I'm excited about Donna's appointment as well. Why do I think tomorrow will go slower waiting for her results. -

I don't really have any solid advice. I know gluten, dairy and soy are the top food offenders. I don't know how you feel about doctors but if you cut out foods and still have the same problem you should probably been seen. It seems any intolerance can cause stomach pain, but it shouldn't be with every meal unless you're eating the same food groups... -
My doctor believes that mercury contributes to a lot of things, including food intolerances. He wanted me to have my amalgams removed as well. I'm not aware of any bad effects from the ones I have, but I don't know how much they've contributed to my childrens intolerances. For my daughter that would include the thimerosal in vaccines at the time as well...

Thanks for the link Carla. Seems like most protein (animal and plant) is acidic and most fruit/veggies are alkaline. -

I buy my cashews from Azure Standard normally. I hadn't had any problems with them in the bulk bins that I know of but I've ordered them from before I found out about my celiac/gluten intolerance. Open Original Shared Link They have delivery in some states the you can get on with someone in your area or they'll also ship UPS. I'm in their delivery... -

Yes, pimentos are used for color. You can do without them, add red bell pepper (it would probably need to be cooked soft first), add tomatoes, use some paprika). There are times I don't use pimentos. As far as the yeast flakes. We've quit using them because they didn't settle well with everyone. We even bought the ones from Bob's Red Mill labeled gluten... -

So the gluten free diet should help this as long as we don't go wild over gluten free goodies and eat a well balanced diet of meat, veggies, fruits, nuts etc along with lots of water. I made gluten free muffins. Think I'll stick to the bread. Not so sweet. I love my enjoy life chocolate chips but don't usually crave sugar foods. I do like to have... -

Your welcome Valda. I love the cheese recipes too. I'll have to see if I posted any gravy recipes or not. Cashew gravy is good. I have a lot of vegan cookbooks since I was vegan before these intolerances started coming down around me. Not alot can be used out of them, but I used these most anyway. -
ARCHIVED Should Celiacs Get Flu Shots?

Alison, I didn't know Japan held off all vaccines. I had read that they stopped the DTaP until the children were 2 years of age and most of the cases of reactions were not a problem anymore. -

Boy, where'd the time go? I was going to try and update this frequently and it's been over 2 months. I'd like to post the chili recipe from a little cookbook titled "Country Cabin Cooking" by Alison and Emily Waters. I skimmed the last posts and didn't see it. Chili 2 c dry beans (we don't use, we put in 2 pounds cooked ground beef) 1 lg... -
ARCHIVED Should Celiacs Get Flu Shots?
AndreaB replied to acousticmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Vicky, Thanks for the well thought out post. I have read much about the additives in the shots. Those are what cause people the most problems, including adverse reactions. I only got the flu shot one year about 3 or so years ago. I don't usually get the flu. If I get something like it, it is short lived and over in a couple days. We've only been...
