Not that I have any plans to "cold turkey" Lexapro, but how long did it take to feel better? Just curious...
-
Hey there everyone. Just wanted to check in. I'm doing pretty well. I cut down on my dose of Lexapro by about 1/3. I'm taking a bit less than 1/4 of a pill now. The first couple days were fine...yesterday was a bit shaky. Be advised that going off an AD is no easy task, gluten-free or not. Although being gluten-free certainly seems to help...

My oldest daughter made peanut butter cookies. She could see me lusting over them... She felt guilty and made a paper plate "lid" over the cookies, and drew a picture on the lid, of a toilet...to remind me what would happen if I ate them. Then bless her heart, she made me my own patch of "flourless" peanut butter cookies...just with peanut butter...

Good morning campers. Hope everyone is doing reasonably well. I thought I'd give a progress report. I cut back my Lexapro by about 30% 4 days ago. I notice not much difference in the way I feel. Heck I think I might actually feel better.... This only further supports my theory that gluten was gorking me out and making me think I must need that...

My advice to you based upon quite a bit of bad experiences, is..if you can function without the drugs, don't go there. To be fair, ADs, do help some people, but they harm a lot of people and that sort of gets swept under the carpet. After all, these were mentally ill people right? That guy was going to jump in front of the subway anyway...right...

ARCHIVED Progress Report
JerryK replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wow, I could have written a bunch of that...except the only Kayak I have is the blow up kind and it's not going to win any competition -
I left most of what you typed in there, because it is just soooo true. When I first started feeling depressed, they put me on PaxHell...which caused me to seriously wig out. They counteracted this by placing me on a anti-anxiety med (Klonopin) which made my mild depression very serious...they then raised my Paxil dosage because I still didn't feel good...

My prescription to get thru this is as follows: -Cut down slowly -No Gluten, since it exacerbates the symptoms in me. -Lots of aerobic exercise...which I always do. -Sunshine... j

Well I've had quite a bit of experience with doctors and withdrawing from ADs. I can tell you from experience that most of them don't know jack about ADs or their effects on the patient. They read the PDR and believe it verbatim. They prescribe this stuff like it's candy...everytime someone comes in saying they don't feel well. Yes I will be careful...

Good advice. I'm currently taking 1/4 of a 10mg pill. Not much of a dose. It's hard to carve that 1/4 pill down any lower with any accuracy. Did you experience anything else notable after stopping? Jerry

I've been on a low dose of Lexapro for a few years now. Every once in a while I've attempted to go off of it, but always aborted the attempt because I kept having these weird episodes of brain fog and lethargy. Well this brain fog and lethargy are EXACTLY the same symptoms I get when I eat gluten, so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to make the connection...

Well twin brother is now convinced that CYMBALTA is the cure all for his aches and pains. Never mind that they went away when he went gluten-free for a while. He's sure it's "depression" Never mind that the symptoms of being ill from what you're eating and "depression" are quite similar. Can you tell it frustrates me? Other brother now says "maybe...

So I'm just creating a message today to stay in touch with my Gluten Free side. I figure it's better to talk about it up front than ignore it and face the consequences. So remind me of all the things that will happen to me if I slip up again and eat some DAMN croutons Hope everyone has a great weekend. j

ARCHIVED My Husband Spent The Last 24 Hrs. In The Hospital
JerryK replied to T-Bird's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes indeed a few years ago, I had the testosterone of an 85 year old man. Numerous trips to doctors and endocrinologists and all they would say was "your levels are normal". Well I knew they weren't normal, because I'd done the research ...(Yes I just managed to squeak into the normal range, but my numbers were what you'd expect for someone who'd been neutered... -
Friday I lost my mind and ate a salad with real croutons. I noticed Tuesday that I was feeling real good again. So for me, about three days of feeling crummy, long with the other symptoms. Jer

It's like Carpal Tunnel syndrome. You stop typing on the computer so much, it goes away, you forget about it... Gluten is the same way.... -
ARCHIVED Forgive Me For I've Been Bad
JerryK replied to JerryK's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As a rule I do this. However as I said in my post, I start to feeling normal and start to forget. Time sort of eases the memory of lots of things, including how badly gluten makes you feel. -
ARCHIVED Confused About Enterolag Results
JerryK replied to lapsy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm a DQ 3,1 subtype 7,5. I can tell you most certainly that testing doesn't matter that much. The real test is in what happens when you eat gluten. I get brain fog, irritability, anxiety, lethargy, aches/pains and then the big D to top things off. If you stop eating it and your symptoms go away, but return when you start eating gluten again, you... -
Howdy, hope everyone remembers me...at least somebody So it's been several months since I went gluten-free..and I have a problem. My problem is that after a few weeks, I feel NORMAL. I don't feel great, I don't feel terrible...I feel normal. The problem with feeling normal is I start to forget. I think to myself, today I don't feel terrific...

I'll cast a whole hearted yeppers to depression being caused by gluten. In my case it's within 4 hours of eating it and it lasts at least three days. It's like being drugged and now knowing it. Now I'm not one that's been diagnosed with intestinal damage, so your results my vary.

So why is it in there...to give these pops a 1000 year shelf life??

OK, great! I will try not to be such a glutton next time

Hey guys, I found myself reaching for the immodium this morning. Not sure what the deal was as I've been really careful. The only thing different I did yesterday was, after I got home from bowling, I pounded down half a dozen rather large "Otter Pops", you know those frozen popcicle sticks.... I see nothing on the label that indicates that they...

It's actually more like making a fist with one hand. Your palm goes flat against the bottom of the fist.... and then you make a motion, indicative of a "valve opening". It's quite descriptive for those in the know For greater emphasis, you can hold the "valve" open multiple times and with more vigor!
