  1. There ya go, that's the best I can do on short notice...
  2. In another few weeks, when my "one pack" becomes a six pack..
  3. I absolutely can get some cooperation from the little woman...whe's quite willing to assist me shopping for gluten-free. She's also quite UNwilling to give up gluten and has made it quite clear that she's an addict. I believe her. So as far as cooking and eating...I'm on my own. On the plus side, my abs are beginning to become well defined!!
  4. OK, this statement I like. I defines my problem perfectly.
  5. Thanks so much for the list!!!! I need to make and keep one for myself.
  6. O.K. So here's my schedule for today...up at 5:00 leave for work...have my usual boiled eggs and fruit for breakfast. During the work day, from 7-4ish, I'll have some corn chips, nuts and fruit. My safe foods. At 4:00 I drive in to the city for my Tuesday night bowling league. Now I can have some french fries or something at the bowling alley,...
  7. I'm one of those who's noticed a direct connection with gluten and my mood. Basically gluten makes me feel irritable and depressed for several days after I eat it. Having said that, if you want to try gluten-free, I'd suggest trying gluten-free BEFORE you stop your AD and see if you notice a difference. I'm guessing you will KNOW whether or not you should...
  8. Yes, I believe that I can. However, after getting up at 5, going to work...working our, picking up the kids...getting home at 7pm, the very last thing I want to do is cook. Sometimes, it's just easier not to eat, and I find myself doing that. I guess that's ok 'cause I was perhaps a little pudgy around the midsection anyway....
  9. OK, I had to comment on this statement. I don't know if you were "depressed" before the death in your family or not. If you weren't, don't mistake depression for grieving...they may feel the same, but I'm not sure grief should be treated with a drug unless you are completely debilitated. Having said that..your statement above says it all. The same thing...
  10. Thanks for all your responses. The problem is I am a MAN if you couldn't already tell I'm not going to do Gluten Free baking or make fancy Gluten Free meals...it just isn't going to happen. I work full time and it's all I can do just to survive that, let alone try to find something "safe" to eat. So, I end up eating the same things OVER an OVER...
  11. Just a stupid comment, but if the guy isn't understanding about this, that would be an indicator that he wasn't the right guy for you. Just avoid an deep discussion about the gastrointestinal effects of gluten and you should be fine
  12. OK, so like, I've been told that I don't really have Celiac see...just Gluten Intolerance, which seems to be kind of a curse. Cursed to never really be recognized as having a "disease" but oh joy do I get to feel CRAPPY from it. I know you guys are getting tired of hearing this, and I'm getting tired of saying it, but not being diagnosed as Celiac...
  13. OOOPs my MISStake....I didn't realize that you didn't have bloodwork. My thinking was just that having symptoms...enterolab results and 2 copies of the genes..is enough to make me mighty suspicious. It's really hard to digest this all at once.
  14. My friends range in intelligence from truck driver bowling buddies, who wouldn't know a gluten if it hit them in the face...to very intelligent people, who'd understand. I vary my answer depending upon who I'm talking to. "Too much wheat makes me sick" usually works just fine. BTW, I noticed in your post above that you say you "Apparently do not have...
  15. Ya, I spent quite a few days in a daze after Enterolab sent me back my results. Sort of overwhelming at first. I'm glad you are done waiting...so to speak.... I was wondering if you got your results back, I had to really hunt for this post:)
  16. I understand and you make some great points. My point is not that I don't understand the issues, it's that when you feel well, you begin to have doubts....you begin to forget how badly you felt..etc.. Just like having a toothache...you probably don't think much about that tooth, until it hurts...when it hurts it really gets your attention. That...
  17. Good point, I guess it isn't all about me...
  18. Hi, I just got back from a Holland America cruise to Mexico a week and a half ago. I found eating gluten-free on the cruise to be QUITE easy. The dining room was especially easy to go gluten-free, because it was very obvious what the suspect foods could be. Lobster...no problem...steak...no problem...prime rib...no problem....In fact this was the first...
  19. Thanks guys, I'll try to make it a point to stick around. The problem with feeling well is you decide you are well and that it'll be o.k. to suck down a handfull of those Girl Scout cookies....(It's o.k. right, I'm not really Celiac). Then when you do that and have the runs for two days...you decide hmmmmm....I guess I wasn't really cured after...
  20. Took 8 days for the stool test results (after they received the cool whip container) and 12 days for the gene tests. Gene tests take longer cause they send it out.... Did you log in on their site and check the status...just in case it got lost in junk mail? j
  21. I had this problem on anti-depressants. If you are on one, that's where I'd point the finger. Standard dosages of things like Paxil can have neutering affects. If you are middle aged(like me), you should have your doctor run a full hormone panel and see if your Testosterone levels are where they should be. When I was on an AD, mine were the...
  22. Having run the gamut of Anti-depressants, I have plenty to say about the subject. When I first felt depressed...perhaps 7 years ago, I was put on Paxil. I reacted very badly to Paxil and they added Klonopin (a Benzodiazepine, which paradoxically CAUSES depression). When I didn't get better, they tried different ADs on me....I'm not sure if I can even...
  23. So I haven't posted in a while, cause I don't quite know what to say. Basically most of the hard questions have been answered for me...I'm not Celiac but I am gluten intolerant. I've been gluten-free(ok I did have one cookie) for 4 weeks now and I've had the runs ONE time and it was on the cruise ship, where I could've easily ate gluten unknowlingly...
  24. I did the gene test specifically because I wanted to know whether or not I carried the Celiac gene. I don't think there is a whole lot of value, as the earlier posters said, in the gluten sensitive gene markers, because everyone has them. In my case I have two, but do not have the Celiac gene. In my case, the stool test and gene test indicated...
  25. Ya, well I celebrated my Celiac negative status by having a cookie. I've felt like crap for a day and a half. It's not worth it to eat gluten...just not worth it.
