  1. Most medical tests have a pretty narrow range. It's my experience that you have to have it really "bad" to actually fall within the range. I have had tests for testosterone that placed me at 240ng/dl with a test range from 200-1000ng/dl. Because I fell within the accepted range of normal, I could not get treatment for it, even though I had the testosterone...
  2. I think you need two polls, one before gluten-free and one after gluten-free. Otherwise the data will be tough to decipher. j
  3. Thanks guys, it's starting to make a little sense. Tough getting past the neurological damage My wife and I talked about the genetic test last night...she said "I know you sort of wanted to know you had celiac, because then you would at least have a concrete answer". I told her I was glad it wasn't celiac, and I thought I had my answer. The...
  4. Thanks to all for your responses. I consider myself to be reasonably intelligent, but understanding the genetics of Gluten Sensitivity has me completely stumped. I don't know what this means....I don't understand why he's listed a Serologic equivalence of 3,1. I see 0301 and 0501 which looks to me like 3,1 and 5,1...I just don't get it. HLA-DQB...
  5. So I got my gene test back from Enterolab HLA-DQ 3,1 (Subtype 7,5) and here is what Dr. Fine has to say: Interpretation Of HLA-DQ Testing: Although you do not possess the main genes predisposing to celiac sprue (HLA-DQ2 or HLA-DQ8), HLA gene analysis reveals that you have two copies of a gene that predisposes to gluten sensitivity (DQ1 or DQ3 not...
  6. Yes it's true, I'm logging in from this cruise ship to see if my dna tests are back, and they are! Looks like I'm NOT Celiac, but I do have two genes for Gluten Sensitivity. Not a huge surprise since a whole lot of people have them. Here's what Dr. Fine has to say. If any of you experts want to add anything to his analysis, please feel free. Meanwhile...
  7. It seems like perhaps Lactose Intolerance is causing more of my gastro symptoms than gluten. I eliminated all sources of lactose and boink, all my gastro symptoms went away, in fact I'm a little bit constipated. At the risk of sounding like I'm changing my story, it seems like I get some dramatic extra-intestinal manifestations of gluten intolerance....
  8. Anyone have a basic understanding of Gluten Intolerance/Celiac genetics? Most of the articles I find on the internet were written by someone way smarter than me. Specifically, we know that DQ2 and DQ8 are associated with celiac disease. Are there other markers specifically for Gluten Intolerance and are they associated with specific symptoms?? Thanks...
  9. Hmm is this documented anywhere? Are there articles out there that discuss which genes are associated with which symptoms? Did this info come from Enterolab? Thanks, J
  10. Thanks for your thoughts. I'll try a diary challenge when I get back from my Mexico cruise.
  11. I suppose there is some comfort in knowing that gluten is ONLY making you psycho, not actually damaging your intestings....
  12. There you go, I added it for you
  13. So, last night..basking in the new found knowledge that I tested NEGATIVE for Celiac. I decided to treat myself to a very small piece of garlic bread. This is around 6:30 or so...you know..dinner time. By perhaps 8:30. I'm sitting there feeling like I've stumbled thru the stupid forest, climbed a stupid tree, fell out and hit every stupid branch...
  14. I am starting to realize that lactose intolerance is part of my symptoms also...
  15. So do you count yourself Gluten Intolerant, non-Celiac? Plus I gather from some of your posts you are or were Lactose Intolerant also?
  16. My mom's solution: Just eat more fiber honey I await the results of my gene tests with interest... Oh, did I mention that I'm leaving for my Mexico cruise in 3 days:)
  17. I want to thank everyone for your help, support and advice. At this point I will assume I am Gluten Sensitive, but non-Celiac. Meaning, wheat makes me sick but it's probably not actually causing me damage( at least currently). I don't know where I go from here but I will update you when I get my Enterolab DNA tests back...
  18. Some things I've learned at the wise old age of 46.... -Listen to your body. Don't take medications that make you feel WORSE( believe me this happens). -Blood testing doesn't diagnose anything unless you are half dead. -Medical science wants you believe they have all the answers, and most of them are in a pill. -The best creamer for your coffee...
  19. Ok, I got some blood work back from Kaiser. They tested me for Tissue TG IgA Ab I scored 2 U/ml: < 20 U/mL is considered Negative 20-30 U/mL Equivocal > 30 U/mL Positive Now I expected the tests to be inconclusive...but testing this low surprises me. I...
  20. So where were you guys when I paid my $199?? Seriously, I know it will not actually diagnose anything, but it will be interesting to know. To the earlier poster who asked if I'd gotten my blood test results...nope...1 week and still waiting. I'm sure Kaiser sends them out to a lab that has some idea what a Celiac test is.... All I really...
  21. This article by Dr. Scot Lewey answered my questions: Understanding the Genetics of Gluten Sensitivity
  22. Upon reading Dr. Fine at Enterolab's FAQ about test result interpretation, I'm questioning why I bothered with a gene test. If you read closely, you'll note that he states at least 81% of Americia is genetically predisposed to gluten sensitivity. What chance do I have of seeing anything other than positive? Having not seen what his printed results are...
  23. Well it has already been 1 week since my blood test and I shipped off my DNA to Enterolab. I suppose Kaiser doesn't have their own lab to do Celiac panel's, which is good, 'cause I wouldn't trust them to interpret the results anyway....If I thought they performed and interpreted the tests, I'd forever be suspicious.... That's one week gluten-free, except...
  24. We have greased pigs here in Oregon (Or EE Gun..not..Or EE Gone). Went Chicken pickin...once...never again. I'm learning to never assume anything... After all this my tests will probably come out negative and they will tell me there is nothing wrong with me
