  1. Absolutely the results of this test will not make me deviate from my plan to go gluten free. I have a doctors appointment in 1 week...after I have a blood test, I do not plan to eat gluten again. I'm looking at the gene test as another piece of data that I can take to family members and urge them to be on the lookout for Celiac type symptoms. It's...
  2. I just ordered Enterolab's gene panel for Celiac. Inquiring minds need to know! What'll be interesting is..if it comes out that I don't have the Celiac gene markers...then what? Just non-genetic gluten intolerance? The way I understand it is a negative test indicates that Celiac Disease cannot develop in that individual... I look forward to additional...
  3. I for one can now FEEL the effects that gluten sensitivity has on my consciousness. What a few months ago, I would consider bordering on the absurd...is happening to ME. Honestly, I was pretty sure it was all a load....until I experienced relief of symptoms upon abstaining, and resumption of symptoms upon reintroducing gluten. Indeed, not just a resumption...
  4. Yes I did, thanks very much for posting it. I don't believe the depression I feel is related to malabsorbtion, as it resolves within 24 hours when I abstain from eating gluten. I think it just frigging gorks me out...when it's out of my system, I feel better. I also think it's directly related to the immune or "sickness response". You know, shut down...
  5. Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in here. I've been on Lexapro for several years now. I also have Xanax, which I take at night as needed, to sleep. I've noticed a VERY PROFOUND depressive/lethargic/anxious effect when I eat gluten. By 2.5 to 3 hours, I can always feel it. Abstaining from gluten has the effect of making me feel UP or good. Interestingly...
  6. I've noticed this for a while now... When I consume gluten...a couple hours later, I get a Very Profound "down" feeling. Upon avoidance, I feel "up". In fact this is one of my strongest indicators that I have a gluten problem. I'm wondering how many others feel this effect? Also, if anyone has any data or links that explain this phenomena in more...
  7. It's not so much that they are bad doctors.....it is that they are constrained by bean counters..
  8. To sum it up, I don't like doctors much and they don't like me. I'm not a "good" compliant patient. I tell them when I think they are bull$hitting me. But like I said, I'll have a go with Kaiser, perhaps I'll be surprised...
  9. Well I'm finally at the point where I'm going to see my HMO doctor (Kaiser) next week. I gotta confess that I'm a little worried...worried on multiple levels. First, like most men, I loath going to the doctor. Plus, I wonder what they will do...will they ignore it, blow it off, which is the tendency of Kaiser. Or, since I have an Enterolab result...
  10. Bro will stick with it if I can get more supporting data. Right now, I'm starting to think we have a family tree of undiagnosed Celiac's. I strongly believe my dad had it. He had the perfect Celiac body shape...huge pot belly, but skinny everywhere else...no butt. I know he had stool problems, because I lived with him for 19 years. Dad was 5-6 in...
  11. After 4 days going gluten-free, my identical twin brother now tells me his gastrointestinal symptoms have magically disappeared. Thursday he was telling me he thought it was a load of crap(no pun intended) but I convinced him to try it a few days anyway. Although he's caught a cold, so he can't gauge the effect it's had on his mood....he tells me "I...
  12. Other than the "contact us" button on Enterolab's website, anyone know how to ask Dr. Fine some questions?
  13. Thanks for this information. I can't figure out how to ask questions to Dr. Fine....I've posted a couple questions on the Enterolab website, but how do you actually ask Dr. Fine questions.....? Oh I was 42 for Fecal IgA and 20 for Transglutaminase.... Jerry
  14. Right, but they are testing for Transglutaminase because when that is positive it could be indication of an autoimmune attack against your intestines..correct? Personally, I think if you get sick, that's an indication of damage:) I just want to understand the meaning of the Transglutaminase test....
  15. The way I'm understanding my Enterolab test results is.... Antigliadin IgA positive means that I likely have Gluten Sensitivity. Antitissue Transglutaminase IgA positive means that an autoimmune reaction is happening, which would be more indicative of actual intestinal damage/Celiac Disease. Is my interpretation correct? Thanks! Jerry
  16. Been there already:) and now I know why.....fingerpainting was nice, other than that I don't think it was of any value
  17. At this point...lots of curse words come to my mind when I think about how badly this has affected my life. I was given anti-depressants which gave me side effects, including serious anxiety... Then they added a tranquilizer called Klonopin to the mix, to treat this SSRI induced anxiety. I should mention that Klonopin has a well known side effect...
  18. I am indeed two different people: On gluten I hurt all over, I am depressed, lethargic and anxious. I have trouble concentrating and my stomach hurts. I'm irritable and miserable. Off of gluten...I don't hurt anymore. I feel more energetic and dare I say it...happy AND my IQ shoots up 20 points. This will sound absurd to anyone who hasn't actually...
  19. I have lots of bowling buddies. (yes I'm a bowler God forbid) These guys are not all rocket scientists. If they press me, I will explain it to them in terms they understand......"If I eat anything containing wheat, I will have the $hits for three days and feel like hell". Not many people are going to be interested in the technical explaination, but...
  20. And RIGHT on schedule 18 hours after my Sandwich...here come the runs...actually a little earlier than usual. It's so predictable it's uncanny. Always after eating something with wheat...could it be much else??
  21. Perhaps part of the reason men don't get diagnosed so often is we're not good at complaining. I mean seriously what man actually wants to go to the doctor, especially to discuss poo issues? And then there's the problem that we look too healthy...all muscular and manly...how can we possibly be physically sick...it must be mental. I love doctors...
  22. Well Yeah, I'll vent for a sec..thanks! I'm a short 5-6 blond haired guy, obviously of European decent. I have a history of depression and anxiety...I had to have all my teeth crowned at age 40 because of severe enamel loss and attrition. Why the HE%% did the medical community feed me antidepressants for 5 years without even suggesting this could be...
  23. So I sort of had an atypical reaction last night, or so I think. I'm waiting for a doctors appointment in a couple weeks. I know I need to eat as much gluten as I can, but I'm having trouble eating it all the time. But I know I need to eat some to keep the old immune response going...so I have a sandwich for dinner last night. I sort of know what...
  24. I'm guessing just plain stress to be the trigger. When we built a house 10 years ago, I suspect that might have been the trigger for me. Other than an Enterolab test, I have no official diagnosis, just circumstantial evidence, like getting the runs for a week after eating bread.
  25. I'm in total agreement with that.... If I feel horrible everytime I eat Gluten...I'm going to choose to avoid it...even fear it.
