  1. OK, I have to ask this...is mucus in your stools a symptom of celiac disease? I noticed during my two week gluten-free peroid that this didn't appear to be happening. Now that I'm black on gluten, suddenly every now and then when I er go....there is mucus visible. I've had this for YEARS, never thought it was anything abnormal. From time to time I...
  2. Good one. I'd like to know WHY these two symptoms occur...I'm really curious. If anyone out there is savvy, lay it on us. Tx j
  3. Well, this isn't me yet...at least not all the way there Anyone else know of any more data pertaining to Celiac Body shape? I find this interesting and I'd like to learn more about exactly WHY this happens. j
  4. I guess go to this link... Celiac Body Shape
  5. This is exactly what my dad's body shape was....aside from the little kid head. Huge pot belly, hard as rock...no butt. Just thought I'd throw that out there as a point of conversation. j
  6. So to recap my Enterolab tests were Gluten Sensitivity Stool Test Fecal Antigliadin IgA 42 (Normal Range <10 Units) Tissue Transglutaminase Stool Test Fecal Antitissue Transglutaminase IgA 20 Units (Normal Range <10 Units) Anyone out there with similar results from Enterolab have the official medically sanctioned blood tests...
  7. Yah...I found out what happens when you go from gluten-free to overdo....not good
  8. Feeling better today...moderated my intake of gluten the last day or so.... How do you eat enough to test positive, yet keep yourself from being miserable? In any case the two week gluten-free period, and my reaction upon eating gluten afterwards, has pretty well clinched it for me. I find myself decidedly unskeptical now:0
  9. This was sooooooo true, after about 6 hours, it hit me like a dump truck(see my previous post) I guess I'd felt better gradually and it didn't seem so dramatic, but boy oh boy. The first couple days back on...keep the sharp objects away, it's BAAD. I'm in awe of the power of gluten. I finally get it. It's like being in a daze, like being drugged and...
  10. It's funny you should say this, because OMG did I experience it. After two weeks gluten-free, I ate some croutons in my salad and then had a bit of pasta. Man oh man did I feel it. Brain fog, blurred vision, bloating, cramping, tummy rumbling like Mt. St. Helens, irritability, depression...going to the bathroom half a dozen times in one day. Just...
  11. Yah, I'm in that place now also. Positive or negative, my future will be gluten-free. First day back "on" and already I feel $hitty....pun intended. Seriously, after two weeks, I could REALLY feel it hit me. The fatigue, the irritability, the brain fog...amazing. I guess I got used to feeling like that all the time. j
  12. This is a topic I am well versed in I had to have ALL my teeth crowned at age 40 because the enamel was gone. The dentist did indeed mention enamel hypoplasia..... I'm 46 now. Enamel hypoplasia is what initially raised my interest in Celiac. Interestingly, when I was in my mid 20s, a different dentist said my teeth were as hard as granite and...
  13. OK, I KNOW I ,in my heart of hearts, I know that gluten affects me badly. Whether or not that means I have true Celiac, I do not know. What I do know is I MUST have a definitive diagnosis if possible. I have a twin brother and family. I need to be able to look them in the eye and tell them I unequivocally have Celiac and that THEY need to be tested...
  14. O.K. it was my brain doctor Yep I have one and for some strange reason they want you to come back every once in a while, if they have you on a medication. I' ve been on a low dose of Lexapro for a few years now. I got the courage to bring up my thoughts on Celiac with him....I listed it all out. -Dental enamel hypoplasia....teeth all capped at...
  15. This is the problem, I will always wonder without proof....Insurance wise, it's a wash. I pay my premiums, so it doesn't matter to me what they think. A large part of the problem is it's not something you can see. If I grew mushrooms on my forehead, when I ate bread, and they went away when I stopped, I'd KNOW wheat was a problem. I think I might...
  16. I understand, this is a large part of what's frustrating me. I don't even know for sure if I have Celiac, how can I advocate a life-style change for someone else, just because I appear to be Gluten Intolerant? This is why I struggle daily with my decision to go with Enterolab's recommendation and not pursue a diagnoses from my HMO. I would like...
  17. I have a gluten munching wife and 2 daughters who are in no way going to forgo wheat just because it gives dad the runs. They are certainly happy to make sure the house is stocked with gluten-free free products, but I am on my own to make certain I comply. My wife would choose bread over me I think PLUS right now we still have a house full of Glutenated...
  18. OK, you might be right, but that would imply prior planning on my part..
  19. Certainly no apology necessary. The sad truth in the United States is medicine is all about money. If you go to your doctor, your primary care MD is essentially a gatekeeper who
  20. See, even on this thread we have someone who thinks I should be eating gluten and trying to get a Celiac panel from my doctor. Then another who thinks I shouldn't say anything to my HMO. Other folks will tell me to go with my Enterolab results, because Dr. Fine is the man.... Oh the controversy! Then there is Fiddle Faddle who thinks my family...
  21. So, I'm feeling pretty confused and frustrated. I've identified a potential problem. I've mailed off my poop to some dude in Texas. He's mailed me back and said "You should never eat gluten again". How do I KNOW this is real. How do I MAKE it real. I mean, on the surface it sounds pretty harsh. You should never eat bread, the staff of life, again...
  22. I've been sooooo good ever since the Italian restaurant. I've cooked everything I've eaten, making darn sure it's gluten-free. But yet, yesterday and today, I'm having symptoms again. Cramping, D and loose stools. I don't get it. Am I asking too much to have my symptoms abate so quickly or did I get glutened?? I did have some coffee with coffeemate...
  23. Thanks, this sounds great AND I want it bad enough to make it!!! I agree the problem is not getting enough fat. (but maybe this is a good thing) Plus it's a change I'll have to get used to. j
  24. Last night I made a chicken stir-fry with vegetables. I really wanted to dump some peanut or soy sauce in there, but everything had wheat..... I was full, but still I crave something. I crave all the fatty pre-fabricated foods that are um, so good for us... On the plus sign, I've lost a couple pounds...
  25. I've thought about this and I confess I don't understand the benefits of Genetic testing. If someone could explain it to me, I'd really appreciate it. I understand you can have the gene and still not be a Celiac?? Anyway, for starters, I'd consider having myself tested for the genes, if it'd be of any value.... Thanks, Jerry
