ARCHIVED Bacterial Enzyme Renders Gluten Harmless
lovegrov replied to Emme999's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I did not "go postal" or anything of the kind. I pointed out, because you didn't on this thread, that this is not a proven treatment. The researchers at Stanford aren't even sure it will work. But first you posted a link to the lab and then to the Stanford release, making it look like we've got a cure here. Your next post made people think that you've been... -
ARCHIVED Putting Pressure On Spot In Ear
lovegrov replied to lockett's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Of course we're skeptical. Some people having raging celiac with no symptoms at all and some people who used to have symptoms stop having them. We might listen if you used the pressure point method ONLY for months and then came back to tell us blood tests and a biopsy were negative. I was probably just days from dying of undiagnosed celiac. Eating gluten... -
ARCHIVED Cane Vinegar?
lovegrov replied to n69n's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Never heard of cane vinegar but it should come from cane. Do you have a specific problem with white (distilled) vinegar? If not, you can have it. Almost no distilled vinegarr is made from wheat and even when it is, the distillation renders it harmless. Malt vinegar is really the only one we have to watch out for. richard -
If you're taking dapsone, your doctor should be doing regular blood tests and liver panel. I never had a liver problem but my white cell count was way off at first. If you haven't gone gluten-free you need to. richard

ARCHIVED Mike's Hard Lemonade
lovegrov replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Bailey's is doing the CYA dance. It's gluten-free. I know a number of people who drink it. Mike's is made with barley malt -- I wouldn't touch it. richard -
ARCHIVED Bacterial Enzyme Renders Gluten Harmless
lovegrov replied to Emme999's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is all I need to see. "We never recommend using enzymes to replace a gluten free diet." And from the company's web site. "These statements have not been evaluated by the Food & Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease." I've been gluten-free for almost four years and went from very... -
ARCHIVED Snacks
lovegrov replied to melhopkins02's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Every microwave popcorn I've checked on has been gluten-free, although I think one of the caramel pour-overs isn't. Pop Secret, Jolly Time, Act II, Newman's, Kroger, and Orville -- all gluten-free. richard -
ARCHIVED Bacterial Enzyme Renders Gluten Harmless
lovegrov replied to Emme999's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
"Yes we know its not proven... I think that was said but the question was... if it was proven would you eat gluten regularly and take the "pill" or would you mostly avoid it and use it occasionally." Ah, but if you go to the first link celiachap posted, you might think these folks have a proven product for celiac. They do not. I should have been clearer... -
ARCHIVED Kraft Ranch Salad Dressing
lovegrov replied to mytummyhurts's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can understand being nervous but it really is that simple -- if it doesn't say wheat, rye or barley in the ingredients, it's gluten-free even if it does have MFS, natural flavor or whatever. richard. -
ARCHIVED Bacterial Enzyme Renders Gluten Harmless
lovegrov replied to Emme999's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Folks, this is NOT a proven treatment for celiac. As the Stanford scientists say, a whole lot more study has to be done. They have no idea if this works inside the human body or even if it did work, how much you would have to take. Do NOT buy this stuff thinking you can take it and suddenly eat all the gluten you want. richard -
ARCHIVED Putting Pressure On Spot In Ear
lovegrov replied to lockett's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you had antibody tests or a biopsy lately? That's essential. Feeling better is proof of nothing. richard -
ARCHIVED List Of Gf Items At Disneyland?
lovegrov replied to Mayam's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Disney is one of the easiest places to eat gluten-free. Call their dining number for help. richard -
The headline says allergy and they mention allergy, but in the body of the story they also explain the difference between allergy and celiac. I was fine with it. richard

NPR has a story this morning about celiac and the new ingredient guidelines. Pretty good overall. You can find it at the bottom of this site. If it doesn't work for some reason go to npr.org and then click on Morning Edition. Open Original Shared Link richard

ARCHIVED Importance Of Biopsys
lovegrov replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Biopsy diagnosis is still the gold standard and it can also be used to check for any other possible problems. But most doctors don't think a followup biopsy is necessary unless you continue to have problems. richard -
I would absolutely follow the advice of my CPA or tax person. The fact is that this is a very gray area that's never been completely ruled on. And even if you are taking it as a medical deducation, you MUST be spending more than 7.5 percent of your gross on medical before it counts at all. It can't just come straight off your taxes. The possible problem...

ARCHIVED Mustard - Mayo - Ketchup
lovegrov replied to BamBam's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If Season All is gluten-free you should be all right with that dressing. Virtually all mustards are gluten-free and many BBQ sauces are OK, but not all. I would not eat them, particularly the BBQ sauces, without checking carefully. richard -
ARCHIVED What Can I Bring With Me?
lovegrov replied to ACopsWife's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Leave the cooler in the car and go out to eat lunch. richard -
ARCHIVED Hannaford Peanut Butter?
lovegrov replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Unless there's some sort of contamination problem, peanut butter simply doesn't have gluten. richard -
ARCHIVED Mislabeled Chicken
lovegrov replied to sdragoo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Raw chicken really is not something we need to fret a lot about. I realize that a grocer repackaging chicken could make an error, but ANY raw meat that has wheat in broth or a solution must by law list it. Every broth I've seen in poultry has basically been water, salt, maybe some spices, and sometimes chicken broth. But in nearly four years I have yet to... -
The Mandarin chciken salad is not gluten-free. At leass three ingredients, including the diced chicken, have wheat. In fact, the Wendy's gluten-free menu, which tells you you can eat certain salads without some of the ingredients, doesn't mention this one at all. NO chicken at Wendy's is gluten-free. richard

ARCHIVED Is Endoscopy Traumatic/painful?
lovegrov replied to hollyd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not traumatic at all because I remember nothing. The doctor should give you a sedative that also an amnesiac. richard -
ARCHIVED Mustard - Mayo - Ketchup
lovegrov replied to BamBam's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never found regular ketchup or mayo with gluten. I THINK there is a flavored ketchup or mayo with gluten. richard -
ARCHIVED What Ingredients May Hide Gluten?
lovegrov replied to momof2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some of these lists are now, quite simply, outdated. Even some of Scott's stuff. This is not meant as a jab at Scott, who I think does a good job. One example -- some of the info about maltodextrin comes from a 1997 publication. The reality about maltodextrin in FOOD in the U.S. now is that if it's made from wheat it must clearly say so. No guessing any more... -
ARCHIVED Instant Manufacturer/ingredient/menu Lookup!
lovegrov replied to Emme999's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If the anesthesia was administered through a gas or IV, gluten would not be a problem, ever. Gases and IV liquids do not have gluten. This is according to the same guy who set up glutenfreedrugs.com and other medical people I've talked to. richard
