  1. If you go all the way down on the ingredient page you'll see those bars have barley and oats, both no-no's. The fruit filling is OK but the rest isn't. "Multigrain" almost without exception will have gluten. richard
  2. The CSA information is now 12 years old. Since then the IRS has made all kinds of rulings, including one that forbids counting diet foods as medical expenses because it's not necessary to buy expensive diet foods to lose weight. You also can't deduct the cost of a health club membership for the same reason. Some tax experts who have looked at this say that...
  3. I absolutely cannot imagine you could claim a Palm Pilot or a computer simply because you have celiac. Pretty much all of us would have a computer anyway, and the PP certainly is not a necessity. Heck, I don't even carry a list when I shop any more. You can see that one person on this thread who knows their stuff knows nothing about a tax deduction for...

    ARCHIVED Wendys

Wendy's now says the Frosty is indeed gluten-free. I doubt that it ever had gluten. richard
  5. All cottage cheese I've found has been gluten-free. Definitely do NOT eat oatmeal. It's contaminated with wheat. Glutemate is MSG, which is gluten-free. Some flavored chips have wheat and some plain ones have a contamination problem. richard
  6. Potator starch and potato flour are cp,pletely different. One cannot be subsituted for the other. However, potato starch and potato starch flour are the same. richard
  7. Yes, you can have both celiac disease and the colitis but, of course, I can't tell if you do. If your celiac tests are positive, then there's almost no chance you don't have it. I know very little about colitis, so I can't help with that. The probem with makeup , shampoo etc, is that there's a chance you can get it in your mouth. Obviously, your lipstick...
  8. That is the San J one without wheat? They make both. richard
  9. The frozen dinner probably had gluten and the Arby's definitely did. Fritos are actually gluten-free. Peanut butter and jelly is all pretty much gluten-free. It's quite normal to be VERY hungry when you first go gluten-free. I ate a ton. But you'll never get better unless you avoid the gluten. richard
  10. One line from the National Institutes of Health consensus report on celiac says it all: "The management of celiac disease is a gluten-free diet for life." richard
  11. Progresso has some gluten-free clam chowder. One version is NOT gluten-free, however, so read the ingredients. richard
  12. Most tamari DOES have wheat. You have to check. I've never found a coffee like you're asking about with gluten. When I started I was warned about decaf and flavored coffees in cans and bags, but in four years have yet to find one that isn't gluten-free. For some reason, I still worry about the flavored ones, which I don't really like anyway, but just regular...
  13. According to a doctor who spoke to the GIG this year, it takes 6-9 months of ingesting gluten to build up an autoimmune response. A 3-month-old could not be having a celiac reaction. The latest research also suggests that parents should let a child eat the first cereal with gluten at 4-6 months. And breastfeeding is good, even if the mother is eating gluten...
  14. There is no reason to screen babies for Celiac Disease. Babies must have been ingesting gluten into their systems for six to nine months before an autoimmune response can develop. The effect of timing of gluten ingestion has been studied at the University of Colorado. This new study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association...
  15. It probably is gluten-free, but why take a chance? The company has a web site (samsfoods.com) with an 800 number. The 800 number might even be on the product. richard
  16. Nathan's is the only hot dog I've found in four years that has gluten. Even the cheap ones I've checked have been gluten-free. richard
  17. At BK you're not going to get hidden barley or rye (I've never seen hidden rye anywhere). All you really need to worry about is the wheat. richard

    ARCHIVED Wendys

Actually, many of the fast-food places have dedicated fryers for fries. Of course you can still get contamination. McDonalds, BK and most Wendy's have dedicated fryers. Hardee's does not. Always ask, though. richard

    ARCHIVED Wendys

The Wendy's grilled chicken has NOT been gluten-free for a while. It had soy sauce with wheat. richard
  20. IMO, this concern about "undistilled" vinegar somehow making it into food is unnecessary. Vinegar is not actually distilled anyway, it's the alcohol used to make vinegar that's distilled. I just read one article that estimated that EVEN IF (a very, very, very big if) this alcohol were made from a wheat component (very unlikely) and even if every single bit...
  21. "Vinegar" in the U.S. is the same as distilled vinegar. Malt vinegar is the only vinegar to avoid. I've yet to see a white vinegar that isn't distilled. Do you know of any? richard
  22. Never found a fresh mozzarella with gluten. Vinegar is not a problem unless it's malt vinegar, which is unlikely in cheese. richard
  23. I like K because it's not as sweet as some others and has a fuller body. I hadn't noticed the alcohol by volume number, but remember that K comes in a smaller bottle. richard
  24. CB does have a new gluten-free list that they released about six months ago. My computer keeps doing really bizarre stuff when I try to cut and paste it, but you can contact them and they'll send it to you. richard

Not just Bud. Other brewers have said the same. I never believed it. richard
