  1. Tostitos are on the Frito-Lay gluten-free list but are not made on dedicated equipment. Some folks in the past have complained that Frito Lay products seem to have a contamination problem, hence some people won't touch them. Others eat them all the time without a problem. This is why you are seeing different things at different web sites. richard
  2. Honeybaked hams are gluten-free only WITHOUT the glaze. The glaze has wheat in it. In fact, virtually every ham without a glaze is gluten-free, BUT virtually every commercial honey glaze has wheat. richard
  3. Last time I looked Zatarain's Fish Fry was gluten-free. If there's gluten, it will be clearly listed in the ingredients. richard, roanoke, va.
  4. A very large percentage of nutritionists are pretty much useless when it comes to celiac. You'll learn a lot more on the Internet. But I can't understand why an insurance company wouldn't pay for a diebetic to see one -- they'd rather pay the hospital bills when the person doesn't understand how to follow the diet? richard
  5. There are many grains out there. Did you ask if it was wheat or barley? It could have been corn or other things. Some people do not react well to anything distilled and some people just can't drink alcohol. My sister does not have celiac and even small amounts of alcohol make her feel terrible. richard
  6. Some people have trouble with artificial sweeteners. It's almost certainly not gluten. richard
  7. My experience was grogginess for a little while but no pain other than a very slight sore throat. richard
  8. I've never heard of a gin or a tonic that has gluten. richard
  9. What you're having certainly cpuld be a gluten reaction, but I wanted to point out that while some people start having terrible reactions, some people's reactions don't change and others even have milder reactions. As with all else in celiac, it depends on the person. richard
  10. Injectables do not contain gluten so that's not the problem with the Depo. Try something else. richard
  11. Gold's is definitely gluten-free. It's the first one I ever bought after going gluten-free. Horseradish used to be on the list of things to be careful about because of distilled vinegar. It's not something I worry about any more as long as it isn't the creamy version (which I don't like anyway) -- and even that is probably always gluten-free. richard
  12. Sorry I didn't see this earlier. I don't know of a horseradish that isn't gluten-free. A hint for everybody -- in the future if you're looking for a common product like this and nobody answers in time, simply go to the store and look for a brand by a company that clearly lists gluten. For instance, you would see the Kraft horseradish and read that there...
  13. The evidence from what I've heard seems irrefutable -- gluten in feed, if any, does not survive the digestion process to make its way into the animal muscle. This is according to scientists and veterinarian researchers. The vast majority of people with celiac eat meat and have no trouble of any kind. No celiac societies or celiac experts warn about eating...
  14. I can't tell where you live but wine coolers and similar drinks inthe U.S. are pretty much all malted. Most hard ciders are gluten-free and so are the Arbor Mist flavored wines, which are at least somewhat like wine coolers. richard
  15. Ketchup does not have gluten. Virtually every mustard is also gluten-free, but there might be a couple out there with wheat. Good luck. Sounds like some very tough restrictions. richard
  16. When I was first diagnosed I heard somewhere that some decafs might not be gluten free and I was paranoid of flavors. But after nearly four years, the only coffees I ever found with gluten are ones that have obvious gluten items added to them after the brewing, incluidng two flavors at Starbucks. I'm curious if anybody has ever run across a basic coffee...
  17. Sorry to hear about the psoriasis, as if we need something else to deal with. Oh well, I was afraid mine was skin cancer or something like that. richard
  18. Corn Pops added wheat for the first time several months ago. richard
  19. You can't diagnose celaic with a colonoscopy. You need an endoscopy for that. Your doctor might want to do celiac blood tests first. It's unusual to jump straight to the biopsy. For all tests you should be eating gluten if you want an accurate test. Finally, of you do have celiac disease, two weeks on the diet might or might not make you feel better...
  20. The scaly, cracked, bleeding thing sounds more like psoriasis, which is also an autoimmune condition. richard
  21. I don't know of a book specifically about DH, but the diet is the same as the celiac disease "diet," except that some people also must avoid iodine for a while. richard
  22. It usually will say something like natural or "all wood" charcoal. It has nothing at all but wood and it looks nothing like charcoal briquettes. It looks like pieces of burned wood. richard
  23. All charcoal briquettes that I know of -- Kingsford and such -- have wheat starch in them. Some people use them anyway and put their stuff on aluminum foil. I prefer to use natural charcoal, which is nothing more than charred wood. It tastes better, burns better and hotter, and lasts longer. You can often find it at hardware stores, Walmart (usually only...
  24. You absolutely need a gluten-free toothpaste. Fortunately, virtually every toothpaste is gluten-free. Crest, Colgate, Arm and Hammer and on and on. Soaps are also almost universally gluten-free. I remember of hearing of one or two that aren't, but can't remember the names. I use Dove. I know Suave shampoos are gluten-free. richard
  25. DH can take months and months to completely clear. Small mistakes can cause it to flare almost as bad as before you went gluten-free. Are you certain this is DH? I've never heard of prednisone for DH, just dapsone. richard
