    ARCHIVED Beers!

For those of you who are tempted to believe that regul;ar beer is gluten-free, here's what a beer expert said recently. Same site. Open Original Shared Link richard
  2. Just wanted to point out for others that mayos are all pretty much gluten-free. Casein is another matter, though. richard
  3. I don't know of any ketchups or mayos that have gluten, but you should stick to brands you know have been confirmed as gluten-free. I also haven't found a mustard that isn't gluten-free but it does seem to me there are some. Stick with French's at first and you'll be OK. The only hot dog I know of with wheat is Nathan's. richard
  4. Kaiti's right about the whey. I don't know of any ketchups we can't use. I generally use Delmonte and Heinz. richard
  5. Oscar Meyer (Kraft) will clearly list gluten in ingredients. Carl Buddig meats are all gluten-free. All but one or two of Boar's Head meats are gluten-free (olive loaf and one other). I'm pretty certain that all Sara Lee prepackaged meats are gluten-free. richard

    ARCHIVED Wendys

I'm not saying fast food places are totally unsafe. I'm also not saying they don't have gluten-free items. Most of them do. BUT, the chances of cross contamination are EXTREMELY high, particularly at busy times. I know of a woman on another celiac forum who used to own five fast food places and she refused to eat at any of her own places because she had seen...
  7. After four years being gluten-free, I can't name a gum that I know has gluten. I've always heard the thing about using flour to keep the gum from sticking, but think how gross that would taste. I haven't found one yet. If anybody does know of any with gluten, please tell us the brands so we can avoid them. richard

    ARCHIVED Wendys

The Wendy's web site clearly says that their sour cream is gluten-free. In fact, I can't think of a sour cream that I know definitely has gluten. Breakstone, Kroger, Daisy and the sour creams at Wendy's and Outback are definitely gluten-free. If you indeed got gluten, it's almost without question a cross contamination problem. Fast food places are pretty...
  9. That's a CYA. Because distilled vinegar was on the possily bad list for so many years, and because some people with celiac still don't believe it's OK, some companies still warn about it. I ignore it. richard
  10. Actyually this list says IF barley is used in the rice malt not that it does contain it. Anyway, rice malt should be rice, not barley. richard
  11. Never have found a shredded cheese that has flour to keep it from sticking. Maybe it was true in the past, but now they use cellulose and maybe cornstarch. Most likely you're the victim of cross contamination. Unfortunately, it can happen anywhere. richard
  12. Different places do different things. I agree with the comment that battered buffalo wings are disgusting. Buffalo Wild Wings wings are gluten-free except the teriyaki flavor and another one that has soy sauce. They do cook them in oil but the unbattered wings are the only thing cooked in that oil. The sauce is put on after the cooking. I know all of this...
  13. It depends on the brand or the restaurant. Most restaurant ones are not breaded but most commercial store brands do have gluten. richard
  14. All real apple cider vinegar is safe. There is one that says apple cider "FLAVORED" vinegar that does have gluten. Generally, the only vinegar we have to worry about is malt vinegar and a few flavored rice vinegars. richard
  15. It is essential to give her her own toaster. There's no question at all that crumbs from your bread will contaminate hers. Wooden spoons are another source of problems. All ketchups that I've checked (4 years) have been gluten-free. And virtually all mustards. Same with mayo -- all gluten-free. HOWEVER, you either need squeeze bottles or must get her...
  16. Open Original Shared Link The link above has some lists you can check. gluten-free pasta generally isn't all that bad but I personally think gluten-free bread stinks so I just don't eat it. However, you might find something your daughter likes. richard
  17. Doesn't sound like a celiac symtpom to me. richard
  18. You don't "outgrow" celiac, but it is possible that you were misdiagnosed as a child, particularly since you didn't have tests. And, yes, your daughter could still have it. What blood test(s) did you have done? There are four that really need to be done. richard

    ARCHIVED Cheating

I'd stay away from expensive and usually unhealthy gluten-free specialty food. Go with fresh and naturally gluten-free things. I know that's easier said than done with your probable schedule, but it's the way to go. richard
  20. Last I checked, everything was gluten-free except the tortillas and the hottest salsa. richard
  21. I can't help with the other questions, but cotton candy does not have gluten. richard
  22. I'd look for a perdiatric GI who knows celiac. He or she is the most likely to understand. Also, Columbia University has some world-renowned celiac experts. The top person there is Dr. Green, I believe. Nutritionists generally seem to know little about celiac. I wouldn't suddenly take her to a shrink. It might be rough for a while, but children are...
  23. On the wine coolers, I vaguely remember now that there's at least one state (maybe Pa.?) where the wine coolers in the grocery store are malt based, but the ones in the liquor store aren't. This is not true in Virginia. In fact, the liquor store doesn't carry wine coolers. richard
  24. To me DeKuyper's response means there's no gluten added after distilling and very little or rarely gluten before (if at all). richard
  25. In the U.S. I have yet to find a wine cooler that isn't malted, inclduing B&J. We can't have malted drinks. richard
