  1. I can tell you that you won't get a list from Kraft. They'll just tell you to read the ingredients because they don't hide gluten. In fact, most of the companies you wrote to have the same policy. Oh, and like Hormel, Heinz's list is on their web site. richard
  2. Papaya in any form is supposed to help. richard
  3. You can also roll stuff in a corn tortilla. I've given up on gluten-free bread for sandwiches. richard
  4. Forgot to mention that when we went to the Liberty Inn and I ordered a snadwich on the gluten-free bun, they were out. The manager sent somebody off to get some. When it ended up taking 30 minutes he came to our table, apologized profusely, and made all our meals on the house. richard
  5. Actually, as of May Snapple was saying ALL iced teas are gluten-free. My memory is hazy but I think they used to say some were not gluten-free because they mistakenly thought we couldn't have corn gluten. richard
  6. Disney is one of the easiest places in the world to eat gluten-free. When you call the dining number for preferred seating tell them you must eat gluten-free. They will then give you another number for a chef or food manager who will talk to you. When you get to the restaurant, the chef will come out and let you know what you can eat. We even went to buffets...
  7. Ricotta is really a fairly basic food. The lesson here really is to never eat a food without checking on it by calling the company. Don't assume, especially when just starting out. All that said, the ricotta probably was gluten-free. I have yet to find one that isn't. richard
  8. Splenda is gluten-free but in some people can cause gluten-like reactions, such as diarrhea. This happens even in people who don't have celiac disease. richard
  9. You can look this information up yourself because most of the fast food places now have complete ingredient information at their web sites and some have gluten-free lists. These are easy to find and will save you time. Print them out and take them with you. Wendy's has a gluten-free list. Arby's lists the top 8 allergens in each item and also has a complete...
  10. Sensodyne is the only toothpaste I've ever come across that has gluten. The only way to REALLY know about gluten is to call the company (or to know that the company clearly lists gluten in the ingredients). richard
  11. MSG, at least in the U.S., is gluten-free. Or are you avoiding MSG for oither reasons? Anyway, last time I looked McCormick's seasoned salt was gluten-free. Lawry's used to say their's wasn't. richard
  12. Many denominations do communion just once a month with a few more thrown in for special occasions. I would NOT eat the host with gluten myself. When I made the once a month comment, I was talking about dipping a gluten-free host in wine that might be contaminated by crumbs from non-gluten-free hosts. Obviously this would not happen in the Catholic church...
  13. I don't know what your situation is but some people with children who have the diet problems your son has eventually find they have to homeschool, at least until the child gets older and learns he can't eat the art or sample somebody else's treat. Even if your school is completely cooperative and extermely vigilant, they still can't assign somebody to watch...
  14. I'll be honest with you -- I've found no breads that I think are anything like wheat bread. Most are dry and fall apart. I simply don't eat bread any more because I'll be darned if I'm going to pay that much for something I hate. For sandwiches I either roll cheese and lettuce up in deli meat, or I roll the meat along with condiments, lettuce, tomato, you...
  15. I assume that if you dip the wafer in a community vessel you might get some tiny fraction of gluten. I'm not very sensitive so I'm not certain it's something I would worry about once a month, to be be completely safe you could ask to be first or to have a a separate cup. It's hard for non-Catholics to understand how important communion is to Catholics...
  16. Apparently some states do have these rules. I would think you could find out by calling the appropriate state department. You might even be able to find the reulations online. richard
  17. Bone density is a painless procedure involving bone measruements by x-rays. I wouldn't think you'd be looking at more tests unless you don't improve. If they find some sort of major nutritional deficiencies they'll probably take more blood in a few months to see if that's improved. richard
  18. SparkyClare, If you were positive on all the blood tests and you have symptoms, then the odds are close to 100 percent you have celiac. richard
  19. There's mainstream beer out there that CLAIMS to be gluten-free. It might indeed be very low gluten but I personally don't believe it's gluten-free. And if somebody's getting gluten-induced brain fog (as opposed to too-much-alcohol-induced brain fog, then the gluten is obviously doing some damage. richard
  20. All Philly Swirl flavors are gluten-free and they have a fudgesicle flavor. Does Popsicle has a fudge flavor? If so, read the ingredients to see if it's gluten-free. They will clearly list any gluten. Last time I checked McCormick cocktail sauce was gluten-free. They will also clearly list gluten so just read the ingredients. Crosse and Blackwell was also...
  21. On the list I provided I noted the ones that just list wheat that I know about. The rest said all gluten. The reality is that hidden wheat is 95-98 percent of our problem. Hidden rye and oats (which are contaminated) are never a problem. richard
  22. I cannot imagine why hair dye would be a problem. However, some people want to make sure EVERYTHING they use is gluten-free, which is OK. richard
  23. Some people do have depression and some people -- though not all -- do get better with the diet. Actually, it seems to me that most people with depression improve at least some on the diet, but not all are "cured." richard
  24. Most experts seem to agree you need to eat gluten for at least two months, preferably three. And even then damage depends on the individual. richard
  25. Here are some more: Balance Baskin Robbins Ben & Jerry Betty Crocker Blue Bunny Butterball *lists wheat only Breyers Campbells Cascadian Farms Celestial Seasonings ConAgra *lists wheat only Country Crock Edy's General Mills Good Humor Green Giant Hellman's Hershey Hormel Hungry Jack Kozy Shack Kraft Martha White McCormick Nabisco...
