  1. Too paranoid (which isn't necessarily bad). This means ALL Act II is gluten-free. richard
  2. It does sound like possible bacterial overgrowth, which anybody can have. Some people take a probiotic like Culturelle and sometimes doctors prescribe antibiotics. It's simple to take care of. richard
  3. He needs to be tested. ALL first degree relatives of somebody with celiac disease should be tested and it sounds like he definitely has the symptoms. Plus he improved when he cut wheat. Late onset is not at all unusual. I was 46. My father was 70. I urge you to get him tested but he must continue eating wheat beforehand. Spelt is definitely not OK. richard
  4. What's still high? One of the tests is very slow to fall. After 14 months of being extremely careful one of mine, I think the Iga, was still one point above the line. My doctor said to continue being careful but that I was doing a good job. richard
  5. I didn't becasue I ate like a pig on doctor's orders (and because my starved body craved calories). Unless, you have other food problems, there's no reason at all not to eat well. Just eat basic meat (lots of it) along with fresh vegetables and fruit, rice, potatoes and corn. Add in other stuff as you figure out what is and isn't safe. richard
  6. Technically speaking in a perfect world it might be OK. But this is not a perfect world and the odds are it will be contaminated. richard
  7. All Lipton ice tea I know of is gluten-free. In addition, Lipton is yet another company that will clearly list gluten in the ingredients. Most tea is gluten-free but as some have pointed out, there are a handful with barley. Generally speaking I think that barley is clearly listed.   9. Different people have different reactions. Some people react horribly to tiny amounts. Some people react about the same as before the diet. Some people are actually less sensitive. And some people, like me, barely react or don't react at all. richard
  10. A fair number of the salad dressings are gluten-free but not all. I remember once that involves bacon lists wheat starch. Once again, read the ingredients. richard
  11. I don't have any great advice but I can tell you that if you do have the endoscopy, your child won't remember a darn thing. Perhaps she'll be a little scared when they first start but no more so than when she gets a shot or something similar. The only real trauma is to you because you'll worry about it. richard

  13. It's safe. Corn does have gluten but it is not a problem for people with celiac. richard
  14. Yoplait is without question gluten-free. Caramel color either almost never or never has gluten in the U.S. richard
  15. Canola is definitely gluten-free. I don't know of any cooking oils that aren't gluten-free. Some people are sensitive to canola (and other oils) but this has nothing to do with celiac disease. richard
  16. Sensodyne is most definitely not considered gluten-free. In fact, it's the only toothpaste I know of that has or probably has gluten. richard
  17. I have to admit I have never heard of any child whose main or only problem is celiac having a G tube. If all he has wrong is celiac it sounds like your doctors went WAAAY overboard. If all he really has is celiac, stopping the gluten should stop the pain and solve everything. richard
  18. Open Original Shared Link This website has a list of their gluten-free products. Unfortunately, the one you picked up isn't on the list. Maybe it has barley in the natural flavors? Many more companies are starting to address gluten at their websites. Look for the nutrition page or the FAQ. richard

  20. Just looked and regular Milky Way very clearly has malted barley and wheat flour listed. Sometimes all you have to do is read ingredients. richard
  21. He cannot get the samples he needs during a colonoscopy. You have to have an endoscopy. richard
  22. The blood tests are rarely false positive but the biopsies frequently miss the damage. Go gluten free and see if he improves. You have nothing to lose and possibly everything to gain. richard
  23. I assume you mean malic acid? Both are gluten-free. If you go to the celiac.com home page and scroll down there's a link to lists of safe and forbidden ingredients. richard
  24. With numbers this high and particularly if you have symptoms, I wouldn't bother with the biopsy. However, if you need further convincing, then do it. richard
