  1. There's is no such thing as pure oats made in the U.S. I've heard there's one somewhere in Norway or somewhere but don't know a name and don't think it's exported. When scientists studied the effect of oats they couldn't find any pure enough so they grew and processed their own. As I understand, McCann's is about as pure as it gets. Is it the doctors who...
  2. I know of only one toothpaste with gluten so this isn't really much of a concern, but when you brush your teeth and rinse your mouth you always end up swallowing a little whether you know it or not. And once you've rinsed your mouth exactly how can you be sure you got every speck of that residue out of your mouth? It's just not a good idea to put anything...
  3. I don't know but I bet you can find out real fast with a quick google search. richard
  4. But is the malt barley malt? It could be from another grain. richard
  5. All oats in the U.S. are completely contaminated with wheat. They're grown in the same fields, harvested with the same equipment, stored in the same silos, tranpsorted in the same trucks, and processed on the same equipment as wheat. Every celiac expert agrees that pure oats wouldn't have gluten, and those same experts advise us not to eat oats. Some people...
  6. I'm just guessing here but if you had severe damage to the villi in your small bowel, then your physical condition is possibly still deteriorating because one week is not enough time to heal significantly and start restoring all the nutrients your body is missing. I had the brain fog and muscle and joint aches and pains for week and weeks and weeks. If...
  7. vany4, Malt vinegar is not safe and some flavored might not be (for instance Heinz apple cider FLAVORED -- not the real apple cider vinegar -- is not gluten-free). All the rest is gluten-free. Kate, If you tried 3 different vinegars and reacted to all, it's not gluten. Only a very tiny percentage of vinegar is even made from wheat to start with and...
  8. It appears to me you're negative. I don't think one week being gluten-free is enough to bring what would have been postive tests this low. The big question is, do you feel better gluten-free? richard
  9. Kate, Maybe Chili's is different but every other place I've ever been to fajitas are without exception made with flour tortillas, not corn. I think you'd better double check that. richard
  10. The GFP is selling the gluten-free version from the UK. Don't worry, it's gluten-free. Some companies include oats in their version of what isn't gluten-free and others don't. However, oats, like rye, is not generally ever hidden. richard
  11. My guess is this is based on the outdated paranoia over distilled vinegar, at least in the ones that use vinegar. richard
  12. OK folks, Ken's says the following dressings do not have gluten as part of the ingredients: LITE DRESSING: Lite Olive Oil Vinaigrette, Lite Ranch Dressing, Lite Country French w/ Vermont Honey, Lite Italian Dressing & Marinade, Lite Chunky Blue Cheese, Lite Northern Italian, Lite Balsamic & Basil, Lite Raspberry Walnut, Lite Sweet Vidalia...
  13. If the company said it was gluten-free I'd use it. As far as I know nutritional yeast is gluten-free. richard
  14. Bascially Chili's got so many calls about gluten-free items that they decided to look into it. This came out a couple of months ago. richard

    ARCHIVED Eating Out

Taco Bell has maybe two items you can eat. They'll give you a list but most of it is condiments. Even the beef has wheat in the spices. Find somewhere else to eat. richard
  16. According to the ingredient lists here, glutamate is gluten-free. richard
  17. Everybody please be aware that the Heinz gluten-free tomato soup is made in the UK. The U.S. version is NOT gluten-free. richard
  18. I'd look for another source of the problem. Even fine or liquid gluten cannot be absorbed through the skin (molecules are too big), much less gluten in the form of cookie crumbs or such. He might have gotten some into his mouth accidentally, but he did not absorb it through his skin. richard
  19. Two points: First, is this a medication you pout in your eye? If so, I wouldn't worry about whether or not it's gluten-free. Second, did they say that they don't purposely put in gluten but they can't guarantee whether there's contamination with their suppliers? If so, this is the CYA statement you hear from a large number of the pharmaceutical companies...
  20. Imagine and Pacific will most likely be found in the natural foods section of your grocery store or at a natural foods store. richard
  21. Imagine, Amy's, and Pacific tomato soups are gluten-free. Haven't found a cream of chicken that's gluten-free. richard
  22. I think you need a new pharmacist. Gelatin does not have gluten. Ever. Jello is gluten-free. richard

    ARCHIVED Fair Food?

One of my favorites for this type situation is Tyson pre-cooked chicken legs. Or cook your own and take. Also, corn tortillas with sandwich meat or tuna salad. Hard-boiled eggs. Yogurt. Nuts. Beef jerky. Fruit. Vienna sausage. Cheese and crackers. richard
  24. I know you're new at this but when you think about, there's more that we can eat than can't. Fry a piece of meat and cook some vegetables (or open a can). Do NOT skip meals, especially with a 10-month-old to take care of. richard
  25. While I cannot in good conscience say mono and diglycerides are always gluten-free, I can say that in three eyars I can't remember finding a product that wasn't gluten-free just because of those ingredients. There definitely is absolutely no reason to avoid all products that have them. If they concern you, call the manufacturer. richard
