  1. I'm not sure how much good calling the FDA will do. The allergen labeling law doesn't take effect until 2006. And I guarantee you Oriental Trading doesn't make these things themselves -- they simply remarket them. You'd probably have to call a number in China.
  2. I hesitate to answer because I am not a medical person, but it's my understanding that even if probiotics don't help, they will do no harm. You don't need a prescription. However it can't hurt to at least talk to your GI's nurse. I've never gotten Culturelle but I think it's possible to find it in a pharmacy and maybe at a health food store. They don't...
  3. Go see the head dietician. Still, most hospital experiences I've heard about have been bad. The minimum wage person bringing your meal is not the head dietician. Do you have somebody who can bring you food. Assuming a non-complicated birth you shouldn't be there long. richard
  4. I don't know about Puckers and such, but following is a web page with links for many manufacturers. Open Original Shared Link richard
  5. Cass, if you're going to try to convince us that beef and milk are causing brittle bones, I think you need a better source that The Truth Seeker. I mean there's some flat-out nutty, tinfoil hat stuff there. Israel was founded not as a Jewish state but as an occult state? It wasn't a plane that hit the Pentagon on Sept. 11? Is Earth still round or is it...
  6. First I will urge you to try packing your own food if possible. Every time I go on a trip I pack a cooler and have a bag of non-perishable food. This is to give yourself time to heal. I do eat out but every time you do so you take a large chance of cross contamination. One of the good things about the fast food places these days is that if you go to their...
  7. All types of Mt. Dew are gluten-free. richard
  8. Gosh I sure am sorry your body can't handle these things you list (BTW, I don;'t see where anybody on this list eats barley; that's an absolute no-no), but my body certainyl can. Give me a good ole' steak. You have to eat what works for you, but just about anything (in moderation) works for me as long as it doesn't contain gluten. I have no other sensitivities...
  9. Tamari is the only type of gluten-free soy sauce? Hardly. And a lot of tamari has wheat -- you have to find the stuff that doesn't. richard
  10. Gluten isn't supposed to cause DH outbreaks unless you swallow it. My DH has never come back from gluten on the skin. Two things come to mind. First, DH can take months to disappear after going gluten-free. And even small mistakes can bring it back. Second, until you heal and get rid of the Iga deposits that are triggered into outbreaks, iodine can...
  11. As a I said, if it's distilled and no gluten is added after distilling, it's gluten-free. richard
  12. Cows have completely different digestive systems than people (remember, four stomachs?). The food they eat does not express in the milk or the meat. Same with other animals we eat. Otherwise everybody with celiac would be getting sick every time they drank milk or ate meat. This is not a concern for us. richard
  13. Beer, as long as it isn't a wheat beer, actually has only a small amount of gluten. Barley isn't nearly as toxic as wheat and there's only a small amount of barley in a beer. Some also claim the brewing process takes out the harmful part but I don't believe this is true (distilling is another matter). The main problem here is that even though your friend...

    ARCHIVED Dentist In Nh Seacoast?

I don't have a name but I can tell you that the main dangers I've found are flavored prophy pastes and the flavored topical numbing agent they put on your gum before a shot. I have them use plain pumice (or bring your own toothpaste) and I just take the shot without numbing the gum. richard
  15. As for lunch at work, I either take my own stuff and tag along, or I settle for a big salad. I don't go out with the gang as much as I used to, but I do go. Do they have favorite places? If so, are they places you could go and talk to the manager ahead of time? If not, can you steer the co-workers to a friendly place? I agree that big dinner parties at...
  16. Yes, celiac can just come out of nowhere. Many people carry the genes but only a small percent get it. Nobody knows why. Recognized triggers include surgery, severe illness, stress, and yes, you guessed it, pregnancy. With symptoms and positive blood tests the odds are strong that you do have it. You are most certainly going to need to learn to eat vegetables...
  17. Emily, What Marianne and Tiffany said about Igg, Iga, and Ige. There is also a difference in reactions for some people. Also, some people with wheat allergy can have a low-gluten wheat like spelt, and of course they can eat rye and barley. richard
  18. Some people do indeed go through withdrawal. richard
  19. If you decide to get that CSA book I'd wait a month or two. I think the one out now is almost a year old. You might also check out this place: Open Original Shared Link This is another forum you can join. Or you can pick up info (but not post) as a guest. If you scroll down the start page you'll find Celiac & Forum FAQs. Go there and scroll down...
  20. Oat contamination rate in the U.S. is VERY high. Everybody who knows anything about celiac disease says U.S. oats are a complete no-no. richard
  21. Kaluha is gluten-free according to the manufacturer. I don't know what the vodka is from and it doesn't matter because even if you start with wheat, distilling takes out the part of the wheat that harms us. All distillers, all the big celiac groups (yes, even CSA), the dietician associations in the U.S. and Canada, and grain scientists agree on this. The...
  22. Celiac blood tests and wheat allergy tests are completely different things. The vast majority of people with celiac are not allergic to wheat. I'm not but I certainly have celiac. richard
  23. If you are in the U.S. it is NOT gluten-free. Neither are any of the other drinks like Sminoff Ice, Zima, Bacardi Coolers, etc. If you read the carton or the bottle they all say "malted," which means barley. Even all or almost all wine coolers are now malted. The only exception I can think of is the Kahlua bottled drinks. In Canada, most or all of these...
  24. I would agree that some warnings, like those about teflon, might be debatable, but there's no debate at all that you need a separate toaster and new wooden utensils. Wood absorbs everything. richard
  25. What Tiffany said. If you grew and harvested it yourself it might be all right. Otherwise, I say it isn't worth it. richard
