So you were gluten free when you started having excess energy? Were you newly gluten free? Are you still taking the Ritalin? I think you could be right that your body is reacting differently to the Ritalin since you are gluten free. Maybe you only needed the Ritalin because of the gluten. I was taking Lexapro when I went gluten-free and within 2...

ARCHIVED Enterolab Results In On My 2 Kids, Feeling Overwhelmed Right Now
celiacgirls replied to Sarah8793's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 2 girls and I are all gluten-free/CF. 2 of us just started the CF part about 2 weeks ago so we are very new to it. I think it is easier for them that I am on it too. I cook gluten-free/CF but DH does still have his regular bread, milk, etc. I also make sure there are plenty of safe treats for them to have. I am aware that they may cheat on the... -
ARCHIVED 10 Year Old Daughter Needs Others Her Age To Talk To!
celiacgirls replied to KimG's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have a 10 year old girl who is very interested in emailing your daughter. It sounds like they have a lot in common. She's gluten-free as of May and started CF in June. She was on the swim team and plans to play basketball this year. Also a straight A student. If you send me Mollie's e-mail, Kristina will e-mail her soon. -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Hair Products
celiacgirls replied to M-3 Gal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If I use hair products with wheat in them, my head itches. -
Also, I think you need to let the ship know you are coming and need to be gluten free. Then they will know to have the flour they need for the bread. My travel agent did this for us, but I think you can find an e-mail address on the RC website.

I took some gluten-free treats with us. The kids had that for snacks. They drank soft drinks or water so I'm not sure about the juices. Our plan was to go back to the ship to eat but we were often too late for the regular lunch so we ate at restaurants at the port. My kids loved the Adventure Ocean club. They begged to go. They go to many camps...

ARCHIVED If Gluten-intolerant/what Do You Tell Medical People?
celiacgirls replied to oceangirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
When I had surgery, I told them I was gluten-free. I didn't specify why and they didn't ask. My regular doctor I told about the test because I wanted to change to a gluten free prescription. She did write me a new prescription but she also said "gluten intolerance is the diagnosis of the day". I am hoping she will become more of a believer as I keep going... -
We didn't pre-order breakfast and lunch. They did bring the gluten-free bread on request at those meals. We ate eggs, bacon, and grits along with the bread. They also would bring peanut butter on request since my kids don't use butter. For lunch, I ordered off the regular menu but asked about each item. You have to talk to the head waiter but they...

ARCHIVED Preschool
celiacgirls replied to Nantzie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
One of my daughters was gluten-free off and on during preschool. We were just experimenting and didn't have an official dx. None of her preschools or Kindergarten ever gave us any trouble. On the other hand, I never asked them to do anything special like change the play dough, etc. I just told them she couldn't eat gluten and I would send all of her food... -
We just got back from a Royal Carribbean cruise and it was wonderful. We ordered our food the night before and they prepared it separately. One of my daughters is a vegetarian so they had to make something especially for her. They made gluten free bread for us and served it at every meal. We are also casein free so there wasn't much for dessert for us...

ARCHIVED Coca Cola From Mexico
celiacgirls replied to LyndaK's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just looked on my bottle today and it also says HFCS. I just read that in the paper this week so maybe it is just making its way to the stores. So sorry to misinform. -
ARCHIVED What Do You Think?
celiacgirls replied to Minnie2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't know much about the testing but my daughter was tested several times from the time she was 1 until she was about 7. All of the blood and poop tests they did were negative. She said she felt better on the gluten free diet but we were never sure about it and didn't make her be strict and didn't even always do it. When I had her tested by Enterolab... -
ARCHIVED Fingers And Hands Sweilling
celiacgirls replied to Felidae's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I noticed when I went gluten free, my "short, stubby" fingers became more slender. I think it could be gluten related. Did you have any other glutened symptoms? -
All Of A Sudden ... Can't Drink Coffee!
celiacgirls replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't have any symptoms from drinking coffee but once I went gluten free, I am completely turned off by the idea of drinking coffee. At the same time, I miss it. Drinking Coke or Dr. Pepper in the morning is just not the same. -
ARCHIVED My Baby Seems To Be Wasting Away!
celiacgirls replied to mistybearclaw's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You have gotten some very good advice already. I just wanted to second the part about either trying the gluten free diet or testing with Enterolab if the blood tests are negative. My daughter's only symptom as a baby was "different", more frequent diapers when she ate wheat. My grandmother had celiac so she was tested by the blood tests and they were negative... -
ARCHIVED Please Advise...ftt Baby
celiacgirls replied to skysmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I started with just the $99 stool test from Enterolab for gluten intolerance. There's also a $20 shipping and handling fee. This is what they advised me to do. Since then, I have tested for casein intolerance. I found out they keep the sample for 6 months and you can order additional tests during that time without having to do another sample. My story... -
ARCHIVED Coca Cola From Mexico
celiacgirls replied to LyndaK's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would have thought the coke is ok, too, but when I was trying to figure out what it could be, I noticed the Mexican coke has caramel color which in the US is from corn (I think) but maybe not in Mexico. Although it does seem unlikely they would use wheat for this and not much else. Anyway, I am afraid to try it again. We had Wildwood's pancakes and... -
I think the ODD is a description of her behaviour. I think it was a result of her diet. She had some symptoms of depression like always being tired, losing interest in her activities, irritability but she really was diagnosed with that because we were looking for an underlying cause of the ODD. All of those symptoms could also be from the gluten intolerance...

ARCHIVED Coca Cola From Mexico
celiacgirls replied to LyndaK's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found it at Wildwood Cafe. Have you been glutened there? I would think it is safe but next time I go I am going to ask how they prepare the sandwiches on wheat bread and the possibility of cc. -
ARCHIVED Coca Cola From Mexico
celiacgirls replied to LyndaK's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would love to know about the Mexican Coke, too. My daughter and I drank part of a bottle and she got a tummy ache and I got very sleepy and foggy. We had just eaten at a restaurant catering to and run by celiacs so I would think the food was safe but you never know. The next time I went there, they did not know if the Mexican Coke was gluten-free so... -
I recently went to Red Lobster and asked to speak to the manager. He seemed to know about food allergies and said the butter sauce was pure butter. He brought out the butter package so I could make sure there were no natural flavors in it. I had steamed lobster with the butter sauce, a baked potato, and probably the garden salad with oil and vinegar. ...

I have been getting Chick Fil A waffle fries. They have a dedicated fryer, at least at the one I go to. I have never felt glutened after eating them. When I'm desperate, I get their chargrilled filet, but it doesn't taste that great without the bun.

ARCHIVED Blood Tests & Enterolab
celiacgirls replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think Enterolab is more conclusive. My daughter's blood work was always negative but Enterolab was positive. I think that my friends and family see it as less conclusive just because the results came from "some guy off the internet". I was never convinced my daughter didn't have celiac and my intention was to believe it if the Enterolab test came... -
ARCHIVED In Need Of A List Of gluten-free Pre-school Items
celiacgirls replied to Kassidy's mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Here is a link I have seen on the Dallas R.O.C.K. website. Open Original Shared Link On the left, there are several options to choose for handouts to give to the school. There is a lot of food listed but also craft items.
