ARCHIVED New - Is It Worth It?
celiacgirls replied to DownWithGluten's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is worth it to me. I didn't have any abdominal symptoms before but I got dx'ed with gluten intolerance through Enterolab and tried eliminating it to see what would happen. Within 2 days, I could tell a difference. I am on of those people now that can't have even a trace of gluten. When I have it by mistake, I get very tired and irritable and moody... -
If you just need to avoid gluten, milk and most ice cream is ok. Some of us here are casein intolerant as well and that is why we avoid those. Some people, when they are first diagnosed, have problems with lactose so avoid milk products for a while to feel better more quickly. Most vanilla is ok. Welcome. You will find lots of good information here...

ARCHIVED Suspecting Celiac In My Older Two As Well
celiacgirls replied to FeedIndy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think I would test them just in case the test was positive but try the strict diet with them after the testing either way. The test could be negative even if gluten is the problem especially since they have been gluten lite. My 8 year old daughter's tests were always negative (except for Enterolab) but gluten is definitely a problem for her. I tested... -
ARCHIVED Withdrawal From Gluten Causing More Behavior Probs?
celiacgirls replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've read here about people suffering from withdrawal. None of us did and we all felt better within the first week. One of my daughter's behaviour problems showed a lot of improvement at first but we kept thinking she had had some gluten somewhere. Then we eliminated casein and it turns out that behaviour was due to casein. It seems to me that gluten... -
ARCHIVED So Sick, I Don't Know If I Can Make It
celiacgirls replied to dennymel's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am one of those who has been glutened at a restaurant with a gluten-free menu. More than once. If you've been eating out and are having a reaction, it more than likely comes from the restaurant. My reactions have become much more severe since I went gluten-free or maybe I am just more aware of feeling depressed and tired than before so it seems worse... -
ARCHIVED Vegetarian Nutrition
celiacgirls replied to ravenselene's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My 8 year old daughter is a gluten, casein, and soy free vegetarian. The rest of us are gluten and casein free but eat meat. My life would be so much easier if she would eat meat! My search of the internet said that if she is eating enough calories without eating a lot of junk, she will get enough protein. That rice has enough protein if you eat enough... -
ARCHIVED Gi Discomfort V Intolerance
celiacgirls replied to covsooze's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I've given up gluten and casein. I did those because of Enterolab testing. I have noticed I am possibly reacting to soy with just stomach problems right after eating it. I'm thinking I will give it up and see if it is really a reaction to soy. I think it will be worth it because I'm already making most things from scratch and am aware of soy because one... -
ARCHIVED Got Sick From Outback gluten-free Menu
celiacgirls replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Yes, but I found part of a crouton in my supposedly gluten-free Caesar salad. My husband talked to the manager at the time and since then we have asked for her and asked her to ensure that it is gluten-free. So even though I had that experience there, it is still one of my most trusted restaurants. -
ARCHIVED Advice For A Celiac Mom Wondering If Her Kids Have It
celiacgirls replied to gfreston's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Neither of my children has the official dx. One was tested by blood test several times and it was negative. My grandmother had celiac so I knew it was a possibility. She feels better and acts better gluten-free. My other daughter acts much better gluten-free. She had an explosive temper on gluten and casein. I don't get why those specialists think it... -
ARCHIVED Ulta Plumping Lip Gloss
celiacgirls posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just bought this today and don't see anything questionable on it but I'm wondering if anyone has used it or knows for sure it is ok. The ingredients are: Polybutene, Mineral Oil (paraffinum Liquidum), Octyl Palmitate, Beeswax (Cera Alba), Ceresin Was, Microcrystalline Wax (Cera Microcristallina), Silica, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Ascorbyl Palmitate... -
ARCHIVED Are Enterolab Tests Ever False Positive?
celiacgirls replied to dennymel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with this. I have done all of my testing with Enterolab so obviously I believe it is valid. However, as far as the gene testing goes, since he identifies almost all genes as gluten intolerant genes, to me the most valid information I got from him was that I have the DQ8 gene, which is a widely accepted celiac gene. There is so much that is... -
ARCHIVED What Is The Most Accurate Testing In Kids?
celiacgirls replied to breann6's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree that the best way is just to try the diet. My daughter's symptoms were not as severe as your child's but they did go away when she was gluten-free. Unfortunately, I listened to the doctors who said it wasn't due to celiac and it took 7 years of tummy troubles for her before I tested her with Enterolab and discovered gluten was really the problem... -
ARCHIVED Stool Test For Celiac
celiacgirls replied to SanteeBay's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My family used Enterolab after 7 years of testing my daughter with the blood tests. All of the blood tests were negative but her stool test was positive. She clearly has a problem with gluten but it wasn't enough to show up on the regular blood tests. The rest of us also tested positive with Enterolab and even though we didn't have GI symptoms, we did... -
ARCHIVED Blue Diamond Growers Almond Nut-thins
celiacgirls replied to Michi8's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My rule is that if it says manufactured in a place with wheat I will try it. If it says "may contain traces of wheat", I will not. I'm not sure if this is really the way it is, but I interpret the first as a CYA statement and that there is a remote chance of cc, and the second as a pretty good chance of cc. Only because I have had reactions from "a slight... -
ARCHIVED Trouble Dealing With New Diagnosis
celiacgirls replied to Charlotte's Mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. You will find a lot of information and support here. First of all, how old is your daughter? How long has she been gluten-free? Are you sure you are 100% gluten free? I ask because before I went gluten-free myself, I would never have believed a tiny bit of gluten could have such an effect. My daughter was gluten free before... -
ARCHIVED Test Results In
celiacgirls replied to dennymel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your results mean you are producing antibodies to gluten and you are having an autoimmune reaction to gluten. Your fat absorbtion is in the normal range so your intestine doesn't appear to be damaged. -
ARCHIVED How Can You Say That You Have To Be Off Gluten For Months........
celiacgirls replied to Electra's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I felt the difference within 2 days. I didn't even have celiac symptoms before other than anxiety and depression. I have never been tested for celiac but have done the Enterolab testing so I know I'm at least gluten intolerant and I have one celiac gene (DQ8) and the gluten intolerant gene (DQ1) associated with neurological problems from gluten. It doesn... -
ARCHIVED My Daughter Tested Negative!
celiacgirls replied to Electra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It might still be the answer even if your test is negative, too. My younger daughter is the only one we have had tested with the blood tests and they were always negative. I was thinking her tummy problems were gluten related and even had her do the gluten free diet but because the doctors said gluten wasn't the answer, we didn't stick with it. Finally... -
ARCHIVED I'm So Discouraged! My Son Is Not Doing As Good As He Was At First.
celiacgirls replied to ARK's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We noticed a big improvement with my daughter when she went gluten-free but then we had to eliminate casein, too. Some of what I thought were glutenings were actually from casein. We did the Enterolab testing on her just for milk and gluten but they can also test for soy, eggs, and yeast. You could also just do an elimination diet to see if he had... -
ARCHIVED I'm So Discouraged! My Son Is Not Doing As Good As He Was At First.
celiacgirls replied to ARK's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
From what I read here, Quaker products are not gluten-free even according to Quaker. I think the risk of cc is too great. What kind of pepperoni was it? I buy Hormel and it is gluten-free for sure. I think my daughter's reaction to gluten of irritability is a few days after eating it. Unfortunately, it seems to last for a week or so. And... -
ARCHIVED Help I'm Feeling Terrible
celiacgirls replied to Rebecca47's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
At least you know it was flour and not the milk. -
ARCHIVED She Is Angry All The Time - And Depressed Maybe
celiacgirls replied to aprilh's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter, who is gluten and casein free, used to be angry and depressed all of the time. Now she is fine unless she has even a tiny amount of casein or gluten. With casein, she reacts immediately, even if it is just a trace (if the box says "may contain traces of milk"). With gluten, it is a delayed reaction, about 3 days later, and lasts for at least... -
ARCHIVED High Body Temperature As A Symptom
celiacgirls replied to Riayn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My daughter used to be like a furnace. She frequently felt, to me, like she had a fever but she didn't. I never connected it to gluten but now that she is gluten-free, I haven't noticed it. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Ataxia?
celiacgirls replied to Keely's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Whatever they call it, it seems your son's problems are at least partly due to gluten. Some doctors won't diagnose celiac without the positive biopsy. Some doctors recognize gluten intolerance as the same thing without the gut damage. Either way, the strict gluten free diet is the answer. -
ARCHIVED Favorite gluten-free Costco Products?
celiacgirls replied to hineini's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought a big box of Pacific chicken broth there.
