ARCHIVED I Ordered My Enterolab Test....
celiacgirls replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It takes 2 or 3 days to get the kit. You have to send off the results on a Mon, Tues, or Wed and then it is almost exactly 2 weeks later that you will hear. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
celiacgirls replied to linds's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree to just do the stool test. Almost everyone has at least the gluten intolerant genes according to them, so it wouldn't tell you much if you had the genes. The antibody test will tell you if you are reacting to it. If you do just the gluten one first, you can add the casein test later without doing another sample. They save all of the samples... -
ARCHIVED What Are The Effects Of A Soy Allergy?
celiacgirls replied to IrishKelly's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I think my daughter reacts the same to soy as to gluten. She complains that her tummy hurts and she gets hyper and anxious. -
ARCHIVED Is This A Fluke Or Are We Really Seeing Results Already?
celiacgirls replied to girlfromclare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I saw results in myself and my daughter in a few days. We didn't have any stomach issues to begin with but our moods and her behaviour improved dramatically. Our house is a different place now than it was 6 months ago as far as our family life. Some days I feel sorry for my kids but mostly I am just glad we know what was causing their problems. After... -
ARCHIVED Who Knows What Their Genes Are?
celiacgirls replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have these same genes. I think the second one is DQ1 with a subtype of 5. So I think I have the DQ1 and DQ8 genes. My symptoms were neurological, mostly depression, anxiety, irritability, brain fog, etc. My leg would also suddenly give out on me. I'm hoping that was a gluten symptom and not something else but I don't know for sure. It hasn't happened... -
ARCHIVED Argh - Frustrated
celiacgirls replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
One difference is when they start school, they will be able to handle their diet themselves a lot better. But even then, they may not handle it the way you want them to. One of my daughters is pretty careful but one is a little lax about cc in my opinion. At their age, they are totally dependant on the caregivers at the daycare. I didn't have to deal... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Or Tork Test
celiacgirls replied to IrishLisa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I only know about Enterolab since that's what we did and I don't think you can do that one from Spain. I was positive on Enterolab testing even though I didn't have any GI symptoms but what really convinced me was how good I felt when I went gluten free. Enterolab isn't widely accepted by doctors so I could easily tell myself I didn't need to be gluten... -
ARCHIVED Who Knows What Their Genes Are?
celiacgirls replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Rachel, I asked Phyllis at Enterolab about the tTg being specific to gluten and she said it was. My husband just got dx'ed with Graves disease and has agreed to do the Enterolab test due to the possible connection with gluten. (He is skeptical about Enterolab.) We know he has a DQ 2 gene and a gluten intolerant gene but he has never done the antibody... -
ARCHIVED Brach's Candy Corn
celiacgirls replied to Ruth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jelly Belly candy corn is gluten and casein free. I found it in the Jelly Belly bulk bins at Target. -
ARCHIVED Strange Change In Appetite
celiacgirls replied to Shawn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For me, when I went gluten free, I lost my taste for coffee. I miss the ritual of it but I can't bring myself to drink it. I used to love my morning coffee. It's actually a good thing because I can't have cream anymore, either. -
ARCHIVED Could Gluten Be Causing Behavior Problems ?
celiacgirls replied to Susan Kelby's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm so happy for you and your daughter. -
ARCHIVED The Severe Glutening Incidents Are Scaring The Daylights Out Of Me
celiacgirls replied to elaine33's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been gluten-free for almost 7 months so I'm pretty new also. The last time that I think I got glutened was a little over 3 weeks ago from some fast food fries that were supposed to be gluten-free. My stomach hurt a little after I ate it and I had constipation for close to 3 weeks. The worst thing for me was that I was irritable, moody, and unmotivated... -
ARCHIVED Could Gluten Be Causing Behavior Problems ?
celiacgirls replied to Susan Kelby's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We do not avoid sugar. I figure with all that they have to give up, I am not going to add to it. I even provide more sweet things than I did before, because before, they were getting it every where else and I didn't feel the need to. Now, I think it is important that if the kids at school have cake, my daughters either have cupcakes in the freezer at school... -
ARCHIVED Could Gluten Be Causing Behavior Problems ?
celiacgirls replied to Susan Kelby's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree that you should try the diet with her. My 10 and 8 year old girls both have behaviour issues when they have gluten/casein and one of them soy. My 10 year old used to be defiant, angry, moody, irritable, etc and now is very easy-going and pleasant to be around unless she has some gluten or casein. My 8 year old shows signs of ADHD when she has eaten... -
ARCHIVED Any Injection Recipes For Turkey Deep Fryers?
celiacgirls replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We haven't done this for a few years but we used to inject it with Italian salad dressing. This was pre-gluten-free but it should be easy enough to find a gluten-free one. -
ARCHIVED What Am I Reacting To?!
celiacgirls replied to laurelfla's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Braker both times. All I had was the fries and a lemonade. Both times I could feel my stomach hurt afterwards. Then this last time I also had brain fog, fatigue, and moodiness. That is the only questionable thing I ate in the 2 weeks before and after that. (Everything else was made by me with trusted brands.) It doesn't happen to me every time but... -
ARCHIVED What Am I Reacting To?!
celiacgirls replied to laurelfla's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I've reacted twice to Chick Fil A fries. I'm thinking it is a cc issue. I'm just getting over the last one which was 2 1/2 weeks ago. Never again for me. I thought I wasn't sensitive, too, until my last 2 glutenings which had to be from tiny amounts. -
ARCHIVED No Gall Bladder
celiacgirls replied to Marlene's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had my gallbladder out right around the time I went gluten-free. The ultrasound supposedly showed gallstones but when they took it out there weren't any. I'm convinced they took it out for no reason and it was really gluten intolerance causing my pain in that area. Mostly because I still have that pain at times. I think it is connected to getting glutened... -
ARCHIVED Any Way It Is Celiac?
celiacgirls replied to miko920's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had many of the same symptoms as you but I had no idea I had celiac. I was tested by Enterolab after my daughter was positive. If your test results are negative, you might want to consider Enterolab because their test is more sensitive and will detect gluten intolerance not just celiac. I don't know anything about thyroid issues so I don't mean to... -
ARCHIVED Fussy Eater Question Again
celiacgirls replied to elaine33's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have tried several approaches with my daughter. I have tried "no dessert until you eat everything on your plate", tried pushing healthy snacks, tried serving healthy foods and let her choose from that without making a big deal of it. I used to say she had to eat from what was fixed but then my other daughter needed to be gluten-free before us and wanted... -
ARCHIVED New To Forum, New To Gluten Sensitivity/casein Sensitivity
celiacgirls replied to AZKat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm sure there are many people here who disagree, but consider taking a short period of time to eat the things you will miss. I planned a week long adjustment period to eat my last regular pizza, bagel, etc., but I noticed after I ate the bagel on day 1 of my binge, that I didn't feel right. I felt bloated. Before my test results, I never noticed any... -
ARCHIVED School Age Kids..
celiacgirls replied to elaine33's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
One of my kids is gluten/casein intolerant and very picky. She does not eat many fruits and vegetables at all. She eats: Breakfast - usually grits, sometimes pancakes, Perky 0's cereal, Gorilla Munch, Peanut Butter Panda Puffs (she eats them dry since she doesn't like milk subs), orange juice Lunch - Tyson chicken legs, shrimp, sausage, or Wellshire... -
I have had a kidney stone and have a kidney cyst that they are watching. I am wondering what will happen with the cyst now that I am gluten-free. I'm hoping it is gluten related and will clear up or at least not get worse.

ARCHIVED Celiac And Adhd
celiacgirls replied to twinsma311's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was never diagnosed with ADHD mostly because she didn't act that way at school but at home she was in constant motion. She also struggled with doing homework at home. She just couldn't stay focused long enough. I had her evaluated for ADHD and they said she tested more like the normal population but she was hyper, impulsive, and easily distracted... -
ARCHIVED Is There Greater Sensitivity To Gluten After Starting G/f Diet?
celiacgirls replied to Susan M-G's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes. I wasn't even aware I had symptoms until I went gluten-free. Then many things like irritability and fatigue went away. I was tested because my daughter was positive. Now when I have accidental gluten from cc, I do have stomach problems immediately. Not terrible symptoms but I can tell.
