  1. Will you tell me your doctor's name? I am also in Austin and might consider switching doctors. I like my doctor but I don't think she believes in my gluten intolerance.
  2. My husband has this so I know just a little about it. It is a thyroid condition where your thyroid is hyperactive. His symptoms were night sweats, heart racing, and weight loss. For him, it was discovered that his thyroid hormone levels were abnormal when they were doing some routine checks after some pituitary surgery he had. My husband isn't known...
  3. Are you just gluten free? If so, there are lots of candy bars you can have. Do you have another reason to avoid chocolate?
  4. Mine was yesterday! I thought I would celebrate but I forgot about it. I take that as a positive since being gluten-free is fading into the background now and is just a part of my life.
  5. My younger daughter had several negative blood tests over the years but was positive with Enterolab. My older daughter and I then tested with Enterolab and were positive also. All of us feel much better gluten free. I started with just the gluten antibody test for all of us. I ended up doing the full panel with the casein test for everyone. I tested...
  6. My 9 and 11 year olds eat Dora cereal as a snack. Their friends like it, too. It is peanut free for sure. I don't know about tree nuts.
  7. I would try eliminating all of the potentially cc'd foods for a while and then try them one at a time, if you can't do without them. My 2 kids are gluten-free/cf and one is soy free so I know it is hard to find things for them to eat. Instead of Lay's potato chips, I buy Cape Cod russet brown chips. The other Cape Cod chips have a risk of cc. If we...
  8. Yes. I noticed the tortilla rounds did not say gluten free. I usually buy the tortilla strips which have always said gluten-free but my husband brought these home. I did feel bad after I ate them. I can't say for sure it was a gluten reaction because I didn't get irritable and moody like I think I do after having gluten. I did have bloating and a stomach...
  9. I would do the blood test now because it might end up positive and then you (and others) would know for sure. I would give her as much wheat as you/she were comfortable with until you did the test just to increase the chances of it being positive if there is a problem. Then, because you know she is more comfortable gluten free, I would just have her follow...
  10. I really like the Namaste chocolate cake mix. I used to really like the 'Cause You're Special yellow cake but it does seem a little dry after having the Namaste chocolate. I serve both of those to gluten eaters and they like them. I had someone tell me over Easter that the chocolate cake I served was even better than the regular cake!
  11. I would let the flower girl and ring bearer sit with their parents. My daughter was a flower girl when she was 6 and she was very excited about it. However, on the actual day, she found it kind of boring. From her perspective, she had to wait around for all the pictures for hours while her cousins were free to roam around. She sat with us at the reception...
  12. Enterolab recommended I start with just the gluten antibody stool test. I ended up doing the whole package of testing piece by piece because I wanted to have baseline results. I'm not sure I will re-test those levels so it might not have been worth it but it was interesting to know.
  13. My 11 year old daughter has been gluten/casein free for almost a year. Before this, she was an extremely difficult child. She was even diagnosed with Oppostional Defiant Disorder. 11 months into the diet, I would say the only time she acts that way is when she has some gluten or casein. Sometimes I am pretty sure she has had it because she ate something...
  14. I will update when we get back. I'm a little nervous about it because one of my daughters is also soy-free and a vegetarian (and gluten-free/CF). I will be really impressed if they can feed her. They assure me that they can, but I won't really believe it until I see it.
  15. I haven't been yet but we are doing the land/sea package this summer. My 2 daughters and I are all gluten/casein free. When I booked it, they told me that the cruise line was just as allergy friendly as the resort.
  16. I called the Cape Cod potato chips customer service to find out their gluten status. She said the only ones that are really gluten free are the russet brown chips. Some of the other ones, like the original, do not have any gluten-containing ingredients but are manufactured in the same room as some that do have gluten. According to her, the gluten is in...
  17. Yes, it is possible. My last known glutening caused 2 1/2 weeks of depression, fatigue, and irritablity. On the positive side, I am not at all tempted to eat anything risky any more.
  18. My 2 daughters' behaviour is much better on the gluten free diet. They have never been diagnosed by anyone except Enterolab but I insist that they are very strict. Luckily, my parents and in-laws and their school respect my decision. My kids are older than yours so they can see the difference, too, and that helps. One of them did have stomach issues...
  19. Casein causes a rage reaction in my daughter even worse than gluten does.
  20. I was in your situation. My oldest daughter was asymptomatic except for behaviour problems. She was growing but started off at 99+ on the chart and height was down to around 75. Not enough for the doctor to be concerned but I noticed and really thought it was due to her very poor eating habits not a problem with gluten. She was positive for gluten and...
  21. It is possible. I can tell before I leave the restaurant usually.
  22. The dot has worked for me as well as the premarin did. I don't have any symptoms of menopause. The doctor did give me a higher dose of the patch than the pill because she said it wouldn't be enough at that level. I never asked about the glue but I'm thinking it is ok since I haven't reacted. I do react to wheat in my shampoo by itching so I think...
  23. That is pretty much what I do. It just is not worth it to take a chance most of the time. On those times when I have to eat out, I choose the restaurant carefully, pick something most likely to be gluten-free, and then explain to the waiter. I recently ate at an upper-end steak place and a Mexican restaurant where I just had rice and beans. I didn't...
  24. I don't know of any studies. I do know my daughter was probably, according to her therapist, on the path to getting dx'ed with bipolar. She was diagnosed ODD/depression. Another doctor suggested she had Intermittent Explosive Disorder. She is not off from her antidepressant yet but we are tapering very slowly. The only time she acts that way now is when...
  25. My child is not yet a teenager and I do worry she will start cheating as a teenager. However, she was a very defiant 10 year old when we started the gluten-free diet. I feel like I've already experienced some of the teenage years. She also is not officially dx'ed and is doing the diet for behaviour/mood reasons. I encourage her not to cheat by...
