ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
Byte Me replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Jan, thank you so much for your input. I was able to eat about half a jar of organic babyfood squash about 10 hours ago, nothing but squash & water in the ingredients, and with no pain! I also feel better today than I have in a week or more. The info about cauliflower and broccoli was surprising to me..i love those foods but it seems like they would... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
Byte Me replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi, wow this is a really long thread. I apologize if the questions I have have already been answered, but I am extremely exhausted and at this point cannot sift through so many pages. I have had trouble eating for months. I posted several days ago about it and was directed to this forum. On the 8th, I went to the E.R. as I was unable at that point to... -
Thank you very much to everyone who has responded, I truly appreciate you. Unfortunately I do not qualify for Medicaid; in my state, to qualify as an adult, your income must be somewhere around $100/month. Took them less than a week to shoot me down on that one. I am going to do my best to try and scrape up enough to see a doctor, or maybe to the ER...

Hi all, It's been a long time since I was last here. You all were so very helpful then, and I'm hoping someone can help me now. I've been gluten-free for nearly 3 years now, I think. I've backslid a few times, and paid for it dearly. Won't go there again! Lately though, it seems like *everything* I eat except watermelon and berries and frozen...

The donuts came out really really good! I had my oil a little too hot so they weren't perfect, but they still had that really nice krispy kreme type texture. We made regular, chocolate dipped, powdered sugar, and lemon curd filled...talk about a sugar high! It wasn't the better batter flour mixture I used tho, it was the mixture Naomi posted on the recipe...

I have tried this recipe from Naomi's blog (BTW, thank you mamaw, I first found her site thru one of your posts!) and although I have not made the donuts yet, I did try two of the variations of the recipe - the potato bread and the flat bread. I didn't have potato FLOUR, so I subbed coconut flour and everything came out fantastically. I will be making the...

ARCHIVED Is Beef Jerky Okay During Pregnancy?
Byte Me replied to alamaz's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You can make your own marinade out of pretty much anything that you think would taste good... my favorite "recipe" is to just dump a big bottle of tobasco sauce over my cut strips of meat, marinate for a day or so, then dehydrate. YUM. I have to hide it or the whole family gobbles it up in no time! -
ARCHIVED Curious If It Is Common!
Byte Me replied to adiftime's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's really weird! But I'm curious as to which pinky finger we should be looking at?? I voted based on my right hand, because I am right-handed. It is shorter than the last joint by a good quarter of an inch....but on my left hand, my pinky finger is even with the last joint! -
ARCHIVED I Feel Like I've Been Run Over By A Tanker Truck!
Byte Me replied to glutenfreechick's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am so sorry you are feeling so bad right now. Information overload, feeling overwhelmed, grief over your dad's passing, plus being so new to this -- all that is probably contributing to your distress. I wish I knew exactly what to tell you to make it all better. I've been gluten-free for a little over a year now and this past summer has been full of so... -
ARCHIVED Tubal Ligation?
Byte Me replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I had it done 13 years ago. If there was only one thing in my life I could go back and change, it would be choosing not to have that done. For years afterward I had pain so bad (I'm guessing it was during ovulation, because it wasn't during my time of the month, but about 10-12 days before) that I would be on the floor crying, nauseated, about to pass out... -
ARCHIVED Lays Stax
Byte Me replied to JennyC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I react to all Lay's Stax, plain or flavored -- but I don't think it's CC. Symptoms are similar to but slightly different from any other time I have gotten glutened. I dunno what it is, I just stay away now. The Lay's in the bag are fine tho, for me anyway. -
ARCHIVED Lightheadedness & Weakness
Byte Me replied to New Mama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi! It's possible the colander could still be causing a problem. I was very stubborn at first, not believing some things could hold onto gluten forever, and had occasional problems until I finally gave in and replaced everything as suggested. Another possibility is you might have a virus. There is a super nasty one going around, all over the country... -
ARCHIVED Make Your Own Larabar?
Byte Me replied to katshow's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well, they came out pretty good. I think my dates were maybe not fresh enough, or this would have turned out better. They are extremely easy to make - I didn't really measure anything, just sort of dumped stuff together. I added some raisins, toasted coconut, toasted amaranth, cinnamon, cloves, and some unsweetened Bakers chocolate, chopped up. The taste... -
ARCHIVED Question For Those Familiar With Whole Foods
Byte Me replied to Byte Me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is really great info, thank you all so very much! I can see now that I'm probably going to go broke and gain fifteen pounds....the biggest health food store we have around here is about the size of my living room, haha. Whole foods sounds like gluten-free paradise compared to that! I'm already drooling at the thought of gluten-free chicken nuggets... -
ARCHIVED Make Your Own Larabar?
Byte Me replied to katshow's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I know this is an old topic, but I was looking for just this sort of thing! Sooo, after not finding exactly what I wanted here, I googled, and found a website with a recipe that looks very promising. I plan on making these this weekend...I'll post results if anyone is interested. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Question For Those Familiar With Whole Foods
Byte Me replied to Byte Me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow, I did not realize they were so big! Good to know they have a list, I like lists. I figured it would be expensive...I've been squirreling away $$ for a while waiting for a chance to shop at a store that carries good gluten-free stuff. Guess I had better leave some room in the trunk of my car for the trip home. Thanks a bunch for the info! -
ARCHIVED Question For Those Familiar With Whole Foods
Byte Me posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, I've never been in Whole Foods, as there is not one close enough to where I live for convenience. However, I will be visiting relatives in Louisiana all of next week, and I noticed they have a BR location. I was wondering if anyone has ever been to this location and can tell me if there is a decent selection of gluten-free foods and what types? ... -
IMHO, Remeron is evil in pill form! Yes it will make you sleep, at first anyway...first pill I took, I literally slept for 3 days. The sleepiness is a side effect that will eventually go away, so it really doesn't make sense (to me anyway) that your Dr. would want to prescribe it for sleep. It has other annoying side effects that don't seem to go away...like...

This is what I was afraid of...guess I just needed to hear someone say it :\ (err...see someone write it?? lol ) sheesh...I have tons of sinus problems. guess this confirms even more what I didn't wanna know! The lady at the local health food store has some kefir starter, she says she does hers with water? anyone ever hear of this?...

I don't know about everyone else, but no matter how hard I try, there's no way I'm getting through a shower without some amount of water getting into my mouth or nose when rinsing my hair. Which means some product IS going to be swallowed, even if you spit out what did sneak in. When I was still using haircolor with wheat germ oil in it, I was getting so...

They will work great w/o flour! One of my favorite midnight mad munchies recipes (even years before going gluten free) was almost identical to this, 1 cup peanut butter, 1 cup sugar, 1 egg. they are unbelievably good, crisp on edges, chewy in the middle, and quick to make. They aren't quite as good the second day (if there are any left over, that is ) but...

ARCHIVED Oddest Places That Have Gluten
Byte Me replied to confused's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That is weird! I get super sick from Lays stax, even though they say gluten-free right on the label, but I haven't gotten sick from the bagged Lay's. I had just thought the stax might have CC, I didn't know they had a dedicated facility. Guess I need to investigate the extra ingredients in the stax and find out what's up. -
Ok, so I have finally admitted to myself that I have a problem with milk. I don't know why this is so much harder for me than giving up gluten; I did that cold turkey no problem and I was a MAJOR bread/pasta addict! I'm just confused about how I react. I've read posts on lactose vs casein problems, but I'm still not sure. I do not have any obvious...

ARCHIVED Late Teething A Symptom?
Byte Me replied to Randi's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That's a very interesting question. I was a late teether - I have no official diagnosis but I am definitely gluten intolerant if not celiac. All of my children were late teethers except my son - my oldest daughter has no official diagnosis either, but her big medical issues point to gluten ataxia and she has improved a good bit since going gluten free. ... -
I second that on the sweet rice flour...with regular white or brown rice flour in my experience it ends up a little grainy/gritty. I like to throw in some potato starch and tapioca starch too, not too much tapioca though or it gets slimy. I've made gumbo and etouffe several times this way with good results.
