  1. First a little history again. I have 2 celiac genes and an active immune response to gluten (EnteroLab diagnosed). I know I should have my kids screened but I am trying to decide the best method. There are pros and cons to each. Here are my questions, your thoughts are so appreciated right now. 1)Do I test them regardless of symptoms (I kind of think...
  2. Hi Evie, It was one of your replies to my posts that got me thinking about this. What I have read about this often points to it as being a result of stomach surgery. If you don't mind me asking, did you have any kind of stomach surgery or do you think it is just a result of celiac? Thanks, Sarah
  3. This was my response the first time I heard it also. Yes it is a diagnosis and if you google it you can find more info. Sarah
  4. After reading a response on one of my other posts about dumping syndrome, I did some research and now I think I may have this. I am wondering how many others may have this and if it is caused by celiac disease or gluten intolerance, AND if it gets better after long term gluten free. Sarah
  5. This is interesting. I'm thinking that everyone bringing their own lunch would take some of the pressure off to eat what everyone else is eating. That is a plus. Sarah Getting the hotdog without the bun is a great idea. It is good that she is so able to see how much better she feels gluten free. My 7 year old has not been tested yet ...
  6. I worry about this too. And, Ekatherine brings up a good point. When I thought about it, I guess that would be one more thing I worry about as a mom. It is probably better to just pack lunches. It is hard to imagine once he is in high school not wanting to eat pizza w/ his friends. I guess I'll worry about then instead of now. Sarah
  7. I haven't tested my children yet because I am trying to decide which way is best. But if they do come back positive for gluten intolerance, I am wondering if many schools offer this option AND do you have to have a doctor's note? Thanks, Sarah
  8. Thanks for sharing this. It affirms my decision to wait on a diagnosis. Sorry this happened with you. It is good that you already had life insurance then. I do not have life insurance and have never applied. Sarah
  9. I like this. This is exactly what I am going to say from here on. Thanks! Sarah
  10. Nancy, Your post is so helpful! You have already given this a lot of thought and it gives me more to think about. I really like your plan. I might do the very same! I am wondering if the insurance situation could be a problem for my kids also. I have been contemplating getting my 7 year old (not sure about the 4 year old yet) tested. I don't plan...
  11. This is what I have been thinking about. I'm afraid that I will be seen as a hypochondriac and a self-diagnoser by the great lot of people who think this way. My best friend has a whole new attitude about my gluten restriction now that I got EnteroLab results to confirm it. Still not sure if I should pursue it though. Hmmm. Thanks for sharing your thoughts...
  12. Reading your post made me remember that I used to lose my appetite and get nauseous also. I had forgotten that because it was about a year ago and finally went away. It was probably one of my body's ways of hinting at celiac but I didn't know then. I wish celiac didn't take so long to figure out. You and Ursula have both suggested that it could...
  13. Yes, this seems to help, but I was hoping that it might be celiac related and thus temporary. Either way, I'm glad I have some way of controlling it. Thanks, Sarah
  14. Well looks like it is more the norm to not get insurance coverage for it. I'll pay again when I need to test my children. Thanks for sharing. Sarah
  15. I LOVE Tinkyada pasta. She's right, you can't tell the difference. I don't feel like I'm missing out when it comes to spaghetti.
  16. I am noticing (gluten free 8 weeks now with a few accidental slips) that when I have a regular or large meal, I get lightheaded or dizzy. If I snack nutritionally all day I never get lightheaded. Could this have to do with celiac disease and recovering? If not then it may be related to my hypoglycemia. Sarah
  17. They denied the claim even though I sent a letter from my GI doctor requesting/approving the tests and a coded invoice. UGGGHHH! Tricare said that EnteroLab is not certified with them. I told them at Tricare that EnteroLab is an independent lab and that they don't certify with any insurance companies. Didn't matter. I remember reading of others on...
  18. Thanks, sounds a little bit like my son. I think your idea to give gluten free a try before meds is excellent. Your son is very lucky to have a knowledgable mom. Sarah
  19. I don't know what causes them either, but I have them. I have many vertical and some horizontal. Maybe someone else will have more info.
  20. TCA, This is an awesome list! My kids aren't gluten free Yet but I am saving your list just in case! Thank you so much. Sarah I am considering having my 7 year old son screened right now since I found out I have the 2 celiac genes. I was wondering what symptoms your son had? I see you had him tested for ADHD. My son is just...
  21. I am in the same boat as you (see my post about cliff bars) Atlease you know you have comapny! Sarah
  22. Well actually I'm not sure why or if I have to have one. When I go to the clinics where I live, my medical file is retrieved by whatever specialist I happen to be seeing and if I say I have celiac disease, they will ask me who my GI doctor is and then review his notes. Then when they see nothing confirmed they will question me. Another reason I thought...
  23. I know I have been posting a lot of questions lately due to my realization that I most definitely have an issue w/ gluten now. So thank you so much for all of your support. I would like to get a diagnosis from my GI doctor. He did bloodwork a few years back (in which all he told me was that I had 2 of the less specific antigens out of 4 for celiac disease...
  24. Well, atleast I can have the nectar bars My symptoms so far have been mild. So hopefully this won't be too painful of a lesson. Does my count for gluten free days start all over now? Sarah
