ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
rinne replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I haven't read this Andrea but I will look for it. I think I am going to have to add sugar to my list of things not to eat and that will include dried fruits. I love dates and have been buying the organic medjool dates, mostly for my sweetie, because I know they are too sweet for me but they are so delicious that I've eaten a few lately. I can never stop... -
Ashley, I have back pain too. Mine is caused by Ankylosing Spondylitis and is an inflammation in the lower back and spine. I have had a pain in the middle of my back and on the left side for years which I was told was stress, muscle strain, etc., and I saw a chiropractor regularly for nearly two years for other problems and that but although the other problems...

ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Having Problems With Tasting Cans Or Dyes ?
rinne replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I went to the Acupuncterist back in January I was having a strange metal taste in my mouth, a kind of burning almost, is that more what you mean? Almost as if there was a toxic overload of metals in my body, such that I was starting to taste them. It didn't last long, it went away just after I started going twice a week for treatments but I remember... -

A strange and mysterious creature to a super-taster like me. I sometimes suspect my husband falls more into the non-taster category not so much because he doesn't enjoy food but he would live on toast without a care if that is all there was. Well, maybe not all toast come to think of it, we bought some rice bread at the Gluten Free store and he hasn... -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Having Problems With Tasting Cans Or Dyes ?

marciab. it looks like gfb found our answer, thanks gfb. I did the quiz and according to it I'm a supertaster, and here I thought I was just a "food snob". Actually I don't know that I really am because I do like coffee but it has to be organic, very dark french roast, freshly ground, just made.... you can see where the "food snob" comes in. So... -
ARCHIVED How Long Is Long Enough--elimination Diet?
rinne replied to jabberwife's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm very new to this and I can't answer your question but just wanted to say hello and that this is a great site with lots of knowledgeable people. I've been trying to be gluten free for about a month now but keep accidentally glutening myself, I am finding that it is a real learning curve. I have a sister that has a diagnosis of Celiac and a family... -
ARCHIVED The Rotation Diet
rinne replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for starting this thread Ms.S. I will follow up on the links. About 25 years ago I had a boyfriend who followed this diet, his business was a blood test that showed allergies. I was 26 and thought he was extreme and he thought he could save me from myself. We didn't last. I am learning now that when I, so to speak, hear a little... -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Having Problems With Tasting Cans Or Dyes ?
rinne replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
All processed food tastes of chemicals to me and so I tend to avoid it. I have never liked red velvet cake which even as a child, some 40 years ago, tasted funny to me. Some of what passes for food amazes me because I cannot taste any flavour of food in it, only chemicals. -

That's interesting, I hadn't associated the water retention with starch but the joint pain with sugar, YES. I know that sugar is a problem for me and I am beginning to suspect that if I want any treats at all then they should come from my kitchen and be made with maple syrup, it doesn't seem to bother my joints. Eating store bought sweets seems to loose... -
It is good to know that healing takes time. I know I keep thinking that if I am not eating any gluten then I should be fine but I know I'm not and then there is the anxiety about what else could be wrong...other than what I already know. Ursula could you say a little more about lectins? Or do you have a link to the site you mentioned? I have...

Rachel, yams - the orange ones, are wonderful for us, low on the glycemic index and high in vitamins plus being delicious! I like to bake them until they are very well done, that really brings out the sweetness in them. I have used them steamed but they don't have nearly the flavour. They are great done on a barbeque, peel, slice thickly and brush with... -

rinne replied to Byte Me's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would like to understand why the genetic testing is the last test they do when it along with diet would be a definitive diagnosis. Does anyone know? I am glad that I have learned that they only give you the "gold star" diagnosis once the damage to the villi has reached the third on a scale of four in their destruction. It means that if they are not... -
ARCHIVED Physical And Emotional Symptoms
rinne replied to ERA's mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
From my perspective the most important thing is to get some base line of how she is doing and if she is medicated how will you do that? Gluten is a powerful poison for Celiacs and it affects us all in different ways and some of how we are affected is emotional. I know at that age I was crazy and I am very grateful that I was able to find a way through it... -
Wow, I have a problem similar to yours. Now that I understand how devasting it can be once you hit the crisis I want my nieces and nephews to be spared but I am hitting a wall of "well, we'll see, when things aren't so busy I'll do something". Meanwhile the kids are saying to me, "you've lost a lot of weight" and so they see something is going on. I am...

Thanks for the question, that is just how I feel a lot of the time. Now that I can't do anything but acknowledge how sick I am I realize I also have to face just how sick I have been and for how long, further, how it has affected every aspect of my life. Sometimes I just feel overwhelmed. This is not sounding very upbeat and encouraging. So...

I call it woman's magic, you know that synchronicity of events, thinking of someone and when you go to call the phone rings and it is them. I have heard that some First Nations People call that the long body. Anyways, I went to a favourite site and found this Open Original Shared Link which is truly scary. I recommend checking out the spofamerica... -

Rachel, I think I get it, and I think you explained it very well. Thank you. About 15 years ago I wrote an article about MSG for an organic newsletter and at that time the stats were that 10% of the population reacted negatively to MSG, not too long ago when I went looking again I discovered that they are now saying it affects something like... -

Wow, this is the most astonishing thread and not easy to read through when company keeps dropping by. But I did it and I am so impressed by what you have created here. Rachel, I can't eat salad either and I think it is because my digestion is just not up to the job. I tried some organic romaine lettuce and it just hurt. I miss brown rice... -

Rachel, whenever you get to the link is soon enough, just take care of yourself. I visited my first Gluten-free store today and actually saw some of the products you have all been talking about but because I am trying to avoid starch I didn't go wild. (I couldn't resist this smilie but what does it mean?) I did buy a package of Chocolate Digestive... -

Page 43 and counting, just had to quote JulieM here: JulieM thanks for the link to Truth in Labelling and AndreaB for the www.mercola link. Evie, I am very new to all this and it was only a couple of weeks ago that I put these pieces together, and only afterwards did I discover that my mother has AS too! Genetics, my father's family has Celiac. I... -

Hi, I'm only on page 27 but I really wanted to be part of the current chat. Rachel, thank you for this thread and for your story. I truly admire your spirit. Your talking about the rashes brought to mind a friend told me that the area just under the lip is related to the bowels and that if that area is red it shows irritation, I am wondering if a rash... -

rinne replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
P.S. I am wondering if anyone has tried the Blood Type diet? And if you did what kind of success you have had with it? I am thinking that if we are Celiacs then from the very beginning of our lives we have been poisoned and this poisoning damages our ability to trust our own bodies as to what we can have and what we can't. It sets us up for a lifetime... -

Celia, you are a sweetie to ask. I'm on page 22 of this thread and want to read it all, there is so much I am figuring out by hearing your stories. I realized MSG was bad for me about 15 years ago (I was 36) and thought I was avoiding it as I don't eat highly processed food and never if I can see what I recognize as MSG on it but it seems they are... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know What This Could Be?
rinne replied to Phila's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am feeling many of the symptoms you just described right now. I had a DUH moment when the pain started about 15 minutes after I ate eggs and then realized they were probably from chickens who had eaten grain. I am new to this and I keep slipping up and not being sure if I slipped or if there is now something else I cannot eat like eggs.
