Ursula was saying that Green Tea is high in Vitamin K which is one of the things Celiacs are low on and is connected to bruising easily. I know I bruise often without knowing how I did it.

I read enough of the DoctorJ article to be very impressed by him and the connections he is making between human diet, history and health. I ate a lot of soy in my twenties (vegetarian days) but haven't in the past few years, no real reason not to eat it but after reading what he had to say about it, I think I will avoid it. As to corn, after reading... -

Rachel, I really hope this medication helps you to heal, it sounds like it may offer the help not only you need but others on this board. That is awesome. Thank you for your posts explaining it and detailing your conversation with the pharmacist. How wonderful to speak with someone who can relate and is giving of their time. And Christina thank you... -

Ursula, I had never heard that green tea had vitamin K, very interesting, thanks. -

All this talk of green tea is sending me to the kitchen to make some. Carla, is the Starbuck's iced green tea sweet? -
ARCHIVED Splenda
rinne replied to lemonade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Tarnalberry, good information about brewing green tea, I suspect some people have tried it and found it way too bitter because they have overbrewed it. I use green tea leaves and brew them loose in a little teapot, I actually prefer the second pour, i.e. adding water so there is a second cup from the same leaves. I have never tried it with sweetener... -

If you are looking for caffeine, green tea is a great beverage to drink. I suspect you could even make it and add agave syrup and chill it, it would have a different sweetness than sugar. When I am really wanting something carbonated I have a Club Soda with a little fresh lemon or lime. One of the great challenges I find to sugar is that it's sweetness... -
ARCHIVED Old Friend Said We Can't Come Over
rinne replied to mart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't think you are being overly sensitive. I am sorry that your friend didn't make an effort to support you. It is sad to feel ourselves alone. I've had a similar experience as I suspect most here have. You are not alone here. -
I wonder if you haven't answered your own question. As to childhood issues to deal with I suspect many Celiac families are filled with pain and suffering, this poisoning being passed from one generation to the next. In my experience when my body is truly nourished by good food I am happier and more at ease but equally important is to find some...

I just tried it with raspberries and found that I had to hold them under my chin so I could actually smell them and then I waited and tried not to think about anything, just paid attention to what my body did and it seemed liked I involuntarily moved in their direction so I ate them. Now I could just be so hungry that I would have gone for anything but I... -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Having Problems With Tasting Cans Or Dyes ?
rinne replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm a super-smeller too although I have never smelled any gas leaks. That might have something to do with there never being any gas leaks. This is a very good question Marcia. Like you I've done the bath and a few herbs but haven't known how to proceed any further. Admittedly, I haven't done any research on it because I was basically functioning... -

I am overwhelmed by the education it seems I must acquire to figure all this out. I know I don't have to do it all at once but ... I've noticed that I go through various cravings for food and that I tend to eat seasonally. I wonder if eating more seasonally assists with not developing food allergies. I suspect I am thinking this way in hopes that... -
Sounds like you have your answer. I can't handle additives and last week-end, when I went on a small binge after discovering the gluten free store, I learned I can't handle much in the way of gluten free store bought treats. I am wondering if another real problem with these items, in addition to the preservatives, is the sugar. Is it true that sugar...

ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
rinne replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Today I heard about a technique a friend's mother used when she ate. It sounds really strange but I feel desperate enough to try it, here it is: you stand up, you take the food you are going to eat in your hands (in a bowl is O.K.) and hold it in front of you, up in the throat area and you wait to see whether your body moves towards it or away from it,... -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Having Problems With Tasting Cans Or Dyes ?
rinne replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think that nails it Rachel. I'm curious about the relationship between age, diet and the onset of the crisis. I am 51 and and am now clearly ill, though of course I was for years with migraines and arthritis, but for half my adult life I haven't consumed much gluten. As a "super-taster" I ate a healthy and as much as possible organic diet, though... -

Me too. Thank you Robin and no I am not a writer but for the first time in my life I feel like I have something to say, so maybe I am on my way to finding out what that means. I always wanted to be a writer, books are where I escaped the pain when I was a child. And thank you Rachel, so much of what I wrote comes from the feeling of trust I have in... -
ARCHIVED Gi Doc Scheduled Endo 5 Weeks From Now, Is That Routine?
rinne replied to Homegirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I saw the Gastro in early May and the scope is scheduled for late September which is nearly five months, welcome to Canada's healthcare system. I hadn't been eating gluten for months, other than a small amount of soy sauce that had wheat in it, and my blood work came back negative. I am not eating gluten and do not expect to have a confirmation of Celiac... -

ARCHIVED Newbie Here With Some Suspicions
rinne replied to Laurasc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When it comes to Celiac it seems many must be their own Doctors. I'm very new to this and definitely fall into the category of "Med Student's Disease" as far as self-diagnosis goes although I did have a little help with the Doctor asking me about Celiac and my family, I have a sister who is diagnosed with Celiac and IBS. I also have the classic "melting... -
ARCHIVED Article On The Brain/gut Connection
rinne replied to Nantzie's topic in Publications & Publicity
Very interesting article, I wonder if the gut is the first brain and the head the second, sometimes it seems like we have everything else topsy turvy. Why not this too? I have been thinking about an aspect of my personality which when I have been eating gluten dominates, it is a kind of 'fight, fight, fight' feeling. For the first time it totally...
