ARCHIVED Playdates (gluten-free/cf/sf Pie Recipe Link Included)
Tori's Dad replied to tgrand's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can't answer your question as to whether you are expecting too much from your friends, but I can tell you what we have come to expect....nothing. Our attitude has been that we expect absolutely nothing from friends and family. That way we are never dissapointed. I will add that we have been so blessed in that we have gotten tons of support from friends... -
ARCHIVED Communion? I'm A 7th Grader With No Idea What To Do.
Tori's Dad replied to Violinist's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, We are Methodist but the communion ceremony is the same. What we do is bring 2 pieces of gluten free bread (daughter and wife) in a ziploc and lay it on a tray at the alter. Our pastor had these thimble sized "portable communion" kits that have a foil tear off lid with a wafer inside the lid. We put one of these cups of juice beside the bread. When... -
ARCHIVED Eating Out With Kids...gluten Foods At The Same Table
Tori's Dad replied to stolly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
For the most part we simply don't eat out. The anxiety is not worth the not having to wash dishes. On the 5-6 occasions we do eat out, my wife is also Celiac so she and my daughter sit on one side of the booth and my son and I sit on the other. -
ARCHIVED Praise Report
Tori's Dad replied to mrs turbo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Awesome Mrs Turbo! On May 22nd we celebrate 2 years for my preciuos Tori and it only gets better! -
ARCHIVED Mom Thinks I Was Cursed By The Devil...lol! Rant
Tori's Dad replied to Bravie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bravie, As a parent with a Celiac daughter, and husband to a Celiac wife I am amazed/horrified when I read stories about parents like yours. I am so sorry. It sounds like she is imune to medical logic and is in need of some Biblical logic as well. Tell her that God punishing his people for their sins went out with the Old Testament. God sacrificed his... -
Do Duraflame type fire logs contain gluten? I can't call them until Monday to ask. I know some charcoals do but I let Tori roast marshmellos over one of those synthetic fire logs and now she is acting funny. She is not throwing up like a full fledged glutening but she is sad and crying for no reason and just went to sleep much earlier than she normally does...

ARCHIVED Can Someone Help Me Out Here?
Tori's Dad replied to mrbr33's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was diagnosed 2 weeks after her 5th birthday. She would go 2 days without a BM then have 3 within half an hour. They were loose and looked greasy or fatty. Like foam floating on the water in the bowl. In her case, the smell was unbelievable! In addition she was below 5th percentile. Your child's symptoms sound quite different but one thing... -
My wife is an asymptomatic Celiec so it's real hard to tell if she has been glutened or not. After a beach trip with the girls this weekend and LOTS of eating out at restaurants, she began to feel tired and quesey Monday. On Tuesday she had the big D, bloating and the normal symptoms of a glutening (for others that is. She never had any symptoms before) but...

65, It WILL get better! A couple of brief but very important points. - At least for the short term, don't plan to eat out. It's too complicated, too frustrating and too dangerous. My daughter is only 6 so we can live with that, but if you travel with work or anything it will be tougher for sure. - A nice simple meal we love to fix is a Hormel Vaccum...

ARCHIVED Charcoal Made With Wheat/ Cooking On An Outdoor Grill.
Tori's Dad replied to rlemmon's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Guys, Don't know if you saw it but I just posted yesterday that Kingsford does NOT use a wheat binder any more. They use corn starch now. I would assume that you would need to buy a brand new grill though to get the contamination off of it from the old stuff. And forget about using community grills like at parks and stuff because other brands probably... -
ARCHIVED New Info On Charcoal
Tori's Dad posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had done a search in these forums a while back and found info stating that charcoal contained wheat and we have been avoiding it. However, in anticipation of an upcoming camp out, I e-mailed Kingsford about their Match Lite product. They responded that the product is made from waste wood with corn starch as the binging agent and is gluten free. I guess... -
ARCHIVED Another 1 Year Anniversary Celebration
Tori's Dad posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi everyone, Many times it seemed like this day would never come, but now I am the one posting about the one year anniversary of my daughter's (and a few months later my wife's) Celiac diagnosis. What a difference a year makes! Last year, prior to the diagnosis, we had my daughter's birthday party (May 1st) at a local gymnastics center. She wanted so badly... -
ARCHIVED Is All Malt Barley?
Tori's Dad replied to FeedIndy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As far as cereals go, my DD likes Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles, Dora Stars and Trix. -
ARCHIVED Emotional Adjustment-eating Like Crazy
Tori's Dad replied to nikki8's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think you are going through a fairly normal process. My 5 year old ate us out of house and home for 3 weeks after going gluten free. Prior to that, and agian now, she was a fairly light eater. With the 5 year old you can most likely rule out any psycological eating behavior so that tells me that it's normal for the body to say "hey I am actually getting... -
ARCHIVED A G Free Question(school Supplies)
Tori's Dad replied to Hayleesdad's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Playdough is the big one. Tori just started K and we got her some gluten-free playdough from Discount School Supplies and sent it to school. Most crayola products are ok but what we did was go to the school and meet with the art teacher, class teacher etc. and got them to show us all of the supplies they use. We took down product info and phone numbers... -
ARCHIVED Got Really Sick This Afternoon
Tori's Dad replied to happy4dolphins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
interesting topic....my 5 year old is hyper sensitive to gluten and so far she has not had a problem with the snickers minis. Not discounting any one elses experiences but that's been ours. In my research I found the same as others, the official statment is that the minis are gluten free. What is NOT gluten free are the popables. Those are the round little... -
ARCHIVED How Long For Your Kids React To Gluten?
Tori's Dad replied to kimber's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That depends really....if he has been eating gluten all along he will likely have less drastic "reaction" to gluten but his overall health will be poor. For example, my daughter was very sick in terms of lack of energy, failure to grow, etc. but she never threw up prior to diagnosis, she just felt lousey all the time. Since diagnosis and going gluten... -
ARCHIVED The Do'h I Glutened Myself Thread

ARCHIVED Blood Results For 2 Year Old
Tori's Dad replied to LauraW's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Our daughter had just turned 5 when she had her biopsy. For her it went very well. She's a tought little thing. The IV is the biggest concern...how will they react to that big needle going in and will the nurse hit a vein first try. Luckily they hit the vein quickly and my daugher didn't even flinch. They give you a numbing cream to put on their skin where... -
ARCHIVED How Quickly Do You Feel Your Symptoms?
Tori's Dad replied to mamatide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My daughter feels bloated and has a tummy ache within 5 minutes. She is vomiting within 20. -
I guess I have a question first...did you buy a set of dedicated gluten-free pots and pans? A cutting board I can see being more like a toaster in that it needs to be completely separated, but I think if you throoughly wash your pots and pans you should be fine. My wife and daughter are both celiacs. My daughter is EXTREMELY sensitive and had an Iga well...

ARCHIVED First Glutening In A While
Tori's Dad replied to jennyj's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. We learned that lesson the hard way at one of those festivals two weeks ago. We bought our daughter popcorn and 30 minutes later she was throwing up! The fair is coming up here but we won't be eating anything.... -
ARCHIVED Have You Seen Dental Enamel Defects From Celiac?
Tori's Dad replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 4 year old's cavities were the first sign (looking back) of problems. I and my older child have no cavities at all. It is merely a result of the malnutrition. Celiac affects bone strength for sure. I am wondering if my daughters permenant teeth will be OK now that she is gluten free. Hope so.... -
ARCHIVED Waking Up Super Early Since Going gluten-free?
Tori's Dad replied to kimber's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I assume he is feeling OK? My guess is he was so sick and malnourished before that he slept a ton. I would guess he is feeling so much better now and has so much more energy that he requires less sleep???? After my daughter went gluten free her energy level went through the roof! My kids go to bed at 9:30 and get up at 7:00. I would say keep him up a little... -
ARCHIVED Glutened My Daughter Tonight! :-(
Tori's Dad replied to Tori's Dad's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the support. She is 100% fine today. In fact, about 2 hours after she threw up last night she was eating again and seemed to be fine.
