ARCHIVED Ibs Or Really A Gluten Problem?
GlutenWrangler replied to CAS221's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Please don't accept you diagnosis of IBS. IBS is a lazy doctor's diagnosis and it's total bull. Atkins greatly cuts down on gluten consumption, which is probably why you felt better. I think your best bet is to get tested through Enterolab. It's a little pricey, at $369 for the complete test, but if you have a problem with gluten, it will show up on the results... -
ARCHIVED Gene Information Wanted! Please!
GlutenWrangler replied to Peta's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
While celiac disease is celiac disease, some people are more sensitive than others to gluten; thus a more severe immunological response to gluten. Also, it is true that Dr. Fine's research hasn't been peer reviewed. But those of us diagnosed through Enterolab can attest to the fact that Dr. Fine's methods are sound. Dr. Green may be a celiac expert, but... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free, Still Lots Of Pain
GlutenWrangler replied to shopgrlstacy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Stacy, It's definitely possible that you have other food allergies. You could see if you could get tested by a doctor, or use the Sage Elisa food allergy test. But it's definitely a good idea to get tested. Another possibility is that you are consuming hidden gluten or eating cross contaminated food. Mastering every facet of the diet is difficult. Not only... -
ARCHIVED Gene Information Wanted! Please!
GlutenWrangler replied to Peta's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Rez, From the Enterolab website: And according to my more recent research, when DQ1,1 or DQ3,3 are present together, the reactions are even stronger than having one of these genes alone (like DQ2,2, DQ2,8, or DQ8,8 can portend a more severe form of celiac disease). -Brian -
ARCHIVED Gene Information Wanted! Please!
GlutenWrangler replied to Peta's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do you mean having 4 alleles total? Like 2 alleles of DQ2 and 2 alleles of DQ8? We only get 2 alleles total, encoded each gene. You could have 2 copies of the DQ2 allele, which is homozygous for that gene. The same goes for DQ8. OR you can have one allele that is DQ2 and the other allele that is DQ8, which is heterozygous for that gene. But total, you... -
ARCHIVED Help
GlutenWrangler replied to bknutson's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm sorry, but I can't for the life of me understand why celiac disease would be a scam created by doctors. It may not be easy to deal with the diet, but there are worse things in life. You have a cure right in front of you; the gluten-free diet. Many diseases don't have cures, and many people die because of this. By following the diet, you will live a longer... -
ARCHIVED Which Pain Medications Are gluten-free, Sf, Df, Cf, Ef ?
GlutenWrangler replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Marcia, I forgot to say before, if you tell them that you can't tolerate morphine they will most likely give you Demerol. It should work for the pain just as much as morphine, and you may end up having fewer side effects. I was thinking that possibly the liquid forms of the various pain medications may not have as many inactive ingredients as pills do.... -
ARCHIVED Original Symptoms Reappearing Anyone Have These?
GlutenWrangler replied to deb.h.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
1/8 of a teaspoon of gluten can cause intestinal damage. 1/2 of a teaspoon for 2 months will definitely cause symptoms to reappear. This is most likely the cause of your problems. With time and discontinued use of the shake, you should feel better. -Brian -
ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed
GlutenWrangler replied to shutterbugnv's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Maybe you should see a nutritionist or dietitian to help you out with all of this. I'm guessing that you probably won't lose any weight while you are still eating gluten. The gluten-free diet is a hard task to master, but you have to be very strict, even if you don't feel sick after eating gluten. But if you are having troube doing on your own, it's not a... -
ARCHIVED Which Pain Medications Are gluten-free, Sf, Df, Cf, Ef ?
GlutenWrangler replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Marcia, I used to work as a Pharmacy intern. I'm used to reading labels and looking at ingredients, and unfortunately, I think you are going to have a very hard time finding a medication to suit your needs. Most medications are gluten-free, but instead of wheat starch, corn starch is usually used. I have read that the amount if lactose in medications cannot... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Worse After A Bm
GlutenWrangler replied to chick2ba's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel like that when I've been glutened, when things just aren't working right. I wouldn't worry about anyone here thinking you're a freak. Everyone has their problems and symptoms. Hope you feel better. -Brian -
ARCHIVED Which Tests Should I Order?
GlutenWrangler replied to Segnaro's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Actually there is a special clinic. It's called the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University in New York. Here's the website: Open Original Shared Link. -Brian -
ARCHIVED Questions From Hubby
GlutenWrangler replied to hapy4dolphins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The reason why the reaction is worse after going gluten-free is because of adaptation. Our bodies adapt to the fact that we are constantly putting toxins in our body. When the gluten has been removed, our bodies adapt to life without toxins, and begin the healing process. If we consume gluten, the process is interrupted, and we have an intense reaction. It... -
ARCHIVED Getting Started
GlutenWrangler replied to disneyfan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't forget about bacon. Oscar Mayer is gluten-free. I agree that since you have to wait until the biopsy to start the diet, learn everything you can now. You will save yourself a lot of frustration. I was diagnosed in June, but didn't actually start the diet until late July. I thought that I was on the diet, but I was actually doing a few things wrong and... -
ARCHIVED L-glutamine
GlutenWrangler posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey Everyone, The bottle of L-Glutamine that I have says take 1 capsule a day, which is only 500mg. I've read that celiacs need much more than that to be effective. How much do you guys take? Thanks, -Brian -
ARCHIVED My Sister Is Bloated All The Time...could It Be Celiac?
GlutenWrangler replied to ekdumas19's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It really does sound like celiac disease, as the last 3 identical posts pointed out. She may not experience the same symptoms as you did, but that it completely normal. Everyone exhibits celiac disease differently. Genetically, she is a very high risk candidate for celiac disease. Beer is loaded with gluten, so it's no surprise that it causes her to bloat... -

ARCHIVED Which Tests Should I Order?
GlutenWrangler replied to Segnaro's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you want to know if you have active celiac disease, you need to start eating gluten for the test to be accurate. I'm not sure for how long, but at least 2 weeks. If you don't want to do that, just get the gene test. Chances are if your siblings have celiac disease, you also have it. Good luck, -Brian -
I read a few good books on celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. It might be helpful to check the out. The titles are: "Dangerous Grains" and "The Gluten Connection", which provides recipes along with a lot of good information. It may help you out being new to the whole process. Take care, -Brian

ARCHIVED Confused
GlutenWrangler replied to Moondanse's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you feel better off of gluten, don't worry about negative blood tests. Doctors don't always have the answers. -Brian -
ARCHIVED Anyone Care To Guess...
GlutenWrangler replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My numbers were around 71 and 25 respectively. I had positive blood tests, except for the Endomysial antibodies. You may or may not have a positive blood test, but its too hard to guess. -Brian -
ARCHIVED Narcotic Painkillers
GlutenWrangler replied to GlutenWrangler's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well it's good to hear that it probably won't slow my healing down. I'm currently taking L-Glutamine and HLC Intensive probiotics for gut permeability. I'm really not sure how much L-Glutamine I should be taking. The bottle says take one pill a day, each pill being 500mg. So that's what I've been taking, but I'm guessing its probably not enough. Does anyone... -
ARCHIVED Amino Acids--friend Or Foe?
GlutenWrangler replied to NewB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Glutamine is synthesized naturally in our bodies. It is also helpful in the facilitation of many processes in the body. The body's supply of Glutamine can be reduced in people with celiac disease. Supplementing your diet with L-Glutamine can be helpful to the healing process. Also, the name has nothing to do with gluten. Amino acids cannot be defined... -
ARCHIVED Hair Growing Faster?
GlutenWrangler replied to ReneCox's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's really weird that you started this topic. I was just thinking about how my facial hair grows in faster after shaving since going gluten-free. It also grows in slower if I've been glutened. -Brian -
Hey Everyone, I have an extremely rare kidney disorder that causes chronic pain. It is called Loin Pain Hematuria Syndrome. I have bleeding in the microtubules of my right kidney, which then causes cramping and sometimes blood and blood clots in my urine. I have been taking narcotic painkillers for about 5 years for this disorder. I used to have to take...
