It's rather simple. Your dietary restrictions are not their problem. You (and only you) are responsible for what you eat. So, eat before you go. Or, just have a diet coke if you can't find something you are sure of. They want to go out with you, so go out. Don't make things a hassle or they'll stop asking. Next time, ask them out to a restaurant...

ARCHIVED Celiac Girl Goes On A Date
Vladimir Gluten replied to kari's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A friend of mine did and has been happily married for 13 years. He just knew. Now, for the most part, that is not a good idea. -

ARCHIVED What Are The Symptons Of Dairy Problems?
Vladimir Gluten replied to VydorScope's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Puffin's cereal is listed as wheat free, not gluten free. I tried it and it gave me Glutened symptoms. -
Brown Rice pasta will help. You can get it from trader joes. Eat a couple plates of that a day and it should help.

Yes. It goes away. I'm in my second month of a Gluten-free diet. The first week was a little unnerving, but it got better. I coupled the gluten-free diet with more exercise and made sure I got enough sleep. I can really feel a difference. I hope things get better for you.

ARCHIVED Irish Heritage And Celiac's
Vladimir Gluten replied to Queen Serenity's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This thread is a monster!! I am 50% Irish (as my Irish Grandma reminds me) and 50% Pennsylvania Dutch (DEUTSCH). If anyone is interested in a brief list of the possible reasons for the term "Pennsylvania Dutch" here is a Open Original Shared Link -
Wendy's was horrible for me. It gave me such a headache after I ate a burger and fries there. It first happened after I ate a meal before my law school admission test. I was in such a brain fog that I struggled during the entire test. It felt like my brain was in neutral. Horrible way to take a test. Thank goodness I avoid that now.

ARCHIVED Introduction
Vladimir Gluten replied to Kirian's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome. Just to let you know, I'm at 6 weeks gluten-free and my mental clarity is astounding. The Brain fog is gone. I am now training myself to sit and concentrate on a task for a long periods of time. With the brain fog it was always difficult. Good luck. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know How Muscles Work
Vladimir Gluten replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
No, your muscles do not need to relearn what you eat. What happens is that the flow of nutrients going to the muscles is inhibited by the damage to your digestive system due to gluten intolerence. Look at it like a faucet that is barely open, only a little water comes out. Similarly, someone with damage to his small intestine is not getting much nutrient... -
ARCHIVED Cardio - How To Get Started ?
Vladimir Gluten replied to VydorScope's topic in Sports and Fitness
Nah! That's not me. If only I could get a tan. But my red hair and Irish heritage prevents that. I've done that before but I've never had a person around that could take the picture correctly. It's all about the shutter speed. You are actually only in that position for a half second. I stumbled across the picture when I was visiting kayak sites... -
ARCHIVED Cardio - How To Get Started ?
Vladimir Gluten replied to VydorScope's topic in Sports and Fitness
Wait a second! You ran a 5 minute mile? And you were one of the slowest in HS? Did you go to HS in Kenya? Why the heck are you asking us again? The fastest I ever ran a mile was in six minutes. LOL! OK here are the basics of what you need to do. 1. Shoes!!! Get a good pair of shoes!! 2. Don't do too much too soon (shin splints). 3. Realize... -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take

I get a reaction within hours. Usually around 3-5 hours for something like whole wheat bread. -
ARCHIVED Bard's Tale Beer
Vladimir Gluten replied to Lillyth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hooray Beer! I can tell you, from experience, that Bard's tale is a decent beer. I would drink it if I wasn't on a Gluten-free diet (of course at $11 per 6-pack I wouldn't drink much). I'm happy for everyone in CA. -

ARCHIVED Getting Impatient With Improvements...
Vladimir Gluten replied to jabberwife's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you started a food diary? I keep a food diary that tracks: the types of food I eat; the time that I eat it; any sympotoms I may get; and, the time of those symptoms. Perhaps this will help you to figure out what's going on. -
ARCHIVED How Many Of You Had Chronic Constipation As A Celiac Symptom?

That picture was taken in Virginia Beach. When I was younger, I lived in Florida. Right across the bay from Destin. But that was before Destin became the place it is now. -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Had These Symptoms?
Vladimir Gluten replied to eileen.e.wells's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Balance Problems. Yup. I have them. I'm 4 weeks into the gluten-free diet. I had them occasionally in the last six months and now that I am gluten-free I still have lighter episodes. I expect them to go away as I follow the gluten-free diet. Congratulations on your child. -
ARCHIVED How Many Of You Had Chronic Constipation As A Celiac Symptom?
Vladimir Gluten replied to Lymetoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That would describe me. Whenever I had regular pasta you could just about guarantee it. Gluten-Free, no problems. -
I tried it before I went gluten-free (4 weeks gluten-free). If you look at what exercise is recommended it is very high intensity. If you have not been gluten-free for long enough, you may not recover quickly enough. I know that when I did high intensity work outs, I would feel really bad 3-4 hours afterward (like I had zero energy, headaches, etc). ...

ARCHIVED Weight Training Problems Since Celiac...
Vladimir Gluten replied to romeo77's topic in Sports and Fitness
I had similar experience except that, after heavy weight training, I would litterally be down for the count a few hours later. It was like I was out of fuel (even though I was eating well). My muscles would take a long time to recover and I would be in a mental fog too. I didn't know at the time that gluten intolerance was the problem. I thought it...
