  1. Thanks for the report. If you can have it, I probably can too. I am unfortunately allergic to almonds. So cashew butter is about it. I don't know any specific cashew butter that I know to to be OK, so I just do without. From what you said, I might feel a little better about continuing occasionally with the sunflower butter now. I also have a soy problem...
  2. Sun Gold makes several versions of Sunbutter. One of them is called Organic Sunbutter and is just plain gound, roasted sunflower seeds. No salt, cane sugar, no nothing. It does say gluten free as well. The only downside is that is says it is made in a factory that also processes soybeans. I was just wondering if anyone knew if it was gluten free...
  3. The plain unsweetened organic version of sunbutter is delicious. Is it securely gluten free? I do know it's made in a factory with soy. But has anyone investigated it?
  4. Since many of us don't get retested or officially monitored very frequently and some not at all except for their initial "diagnosis" tests (blood, biopsy, stool, etc.), I'm honestly beginning to wonder about some things. Could it be that we will someday find out that many of us have been far too casual with our dietary habits? Maybe we eliminate the...
  5. I absolutely agree! I haven't seemed to get well no matter what I do, possibly because I still live in a household/kitchen full of gluten. If I look at it from the viewpoint of my family, I can certainly see the huge problem for them. That's a lot to sacrifice for anyone. But these are some of the very hard facts that could be shared and hashed out on...
  6. I think a special place for the super sensitive part of this family to talk would be very useful.
  7. Dilettantesteph, have you ever tested Miss Robens products like their flours, guar gums, baking powders, etc.? If not, have you ever tested any companies who carry a full line of baking ingredients we can trust?
  8. Excellent posts! Thanks! I'm sure this will help many people who are having trouble. When you are very sensitive, you get really tired of plain foods and no treats. It's so nice to have some variety once in awhile.
  9. Thanks, Felidae! I forgot to add that I would also like to especially mention any companies who are not only careful about gluten, but may also avoid many other troublesome intolerance or allergy foods as well. Those are really hard to find for multiple allergy people! Some wonderful gluten free mixes or prepared foods will be just perfect and then there...
  10. Thank you, Janet! Good start.
  11. Some of us can eat most anything that is marked gluten free right off the shelf. Our tolerance levels to gluten are a little higher and we have a lot more choices. But others are so sensitive that they can barely tolerate any at all. What companies do you absolutely trust to remain consistently 5-10 ppm gluten free? Aside from human error and circumstances...
  12. You'll never guess who I got an email from today out of the blue after 3 years....... Optimum Health Resource Laboratories!!!!! Yes, it is a big long email holiday promotion. "Buy so many kits and get such and such free." It goes on and on. Here's my question. If they are the scam it looks like they might be, how would they dare...
  13. Compounding Pharmacies usually put the word "compounding" in their names so you can find them. So if you live in a sizable town, you likely have several and can find them in the Yellow Pages. I would pick the biggest, cleanest stores who look like they are well organized and well established in the community. You want a nice, trustworthy, knowledgable...
  14. I just have any meds I ever use compounded for me by a reputable compounding pharmacy I trust, even aspirin. It costs more, but at least I know exactly what I'm getting. I've called a few pharmceutical companies and they are very hesitant to guarantee that there is no gluten or other food allergens in their products. Sometimes, unfortunately, they have...
  15. Does anyone have any experience with using Now Beet Sugar? Is it considered probably gluten free, definitely gluten free, probably not gluten free or nobody knows? If Now isn't OK, does anyone know where to get a beet sugar that is very safe, gluten-wise. Thanks.
  16. Very well stated, Tarnalberry! I love it when people explain things well.
  17. Light Mountain is the one I used too. I can't imagine either why there would be gluten in it any more than you would expect gluten to be in charcoal briquets. But you just never know these days. I think I'll call the company to see what they have to say and then maybe give it another try, minus the egg. Thanks for the input!
  18. I used henna powder off and on for a few years, more for its conditioning properties than the hair coloring. All of a sudden, at about the same time I found out about my gluten issues, I broke out in hives and my face turned bright red when I used it. Same brand, same everything. I assumed that it somehow must have gluten in it or else I was just suddenly...
  19. No problem. Although there is still a HUGE amount we don't know about the genetics of this disease, I think most experts at least somewhat agree on the two main ones, DQ2 and 8. And depending upon who you are talking to, they might even include the notorious DQ1. But, yes, this particular inquiry letter is concerning the validity of stool testing...
  20. If anyone knows, I too would love to know whether that was true about him and the source of the information.
  21. Just ran into this thread. With lots of allergies, there are very few storebought treats I can have. So I am in the habit of making my own simple 'chocolate bars' with unsweetened chocolate and a natural sweetener ( I use several different kinds). Since I can't have gluten, dairy, soy, cane sugar or corn, to date I have not found a single readymade chocolate...
  22. Hi, Other than the swab genetics test which Dr. Fine sends away to another lab, I was not aware that he did anything BUT stool tests. Did I misunderstand your question?
  23. Well, I think we'll call an 'official' end to our little project. We got 27 names. That will look great on the letter. If anyone posts on here or PM's me by tomorrow or even the next day, I will certainly still add them. I plan to actually type the letter on Monday and send it. I want to thank everyone for staying on target and getting this accomplished...
  24. I have good news! Scott has replied to our request to include the name of the forum. He has graciously agreed. I think this could help make Dr. Fine much more comfortable with answering us. Please take note of the paragraph I added near the beginning of our letter. It is not too late to critique it. If you have any further constructive...
