  1. I produce a cosmetic type product. I need to send new packaging label instructions to my people today to meet a deadline. My product, by it's very nature, is made without gluten and several other common allergens in a dedicated factory situation. But our company is too small to afford chemical testing of each run for absolute residual gluten detection...
  2. Nu-World Foods Puffed Amaranth Cereal would solve the problem with popping the amaranth. It has nothing else in it and works great. It is available online through it's own site or here on celiac.com.
  3. I tried and tried to get them to give me an appointment. They were very nice about it, but turned me down flat because I wasn't classic celiac enough (diarrhea, weight loss, etc.). I wrote a very detailed letter directly to the main doctor and got a nice one back. The bottom line was that they are so busy with classic celiac patients that those of us outside...
  4. Super Berry Living Fuel supplement claims to be gluten free and free of a lot of other allergens as well. Has anyone used it and gotten along OK? Thanks!
  5. I need a recipe for handmaking 100% buckwheat pasta (spaghetti) without using eggs. I would be using a new hand crank pasta maker. Does anyone know of a way to make it? Thanks!
  6. Anybody been to any seminars or meetings with Dr. Fine lately? Anything new? Is there any explanation at all for why he still hasn't published his findings or why no medical celiac experts will endorse him? Anybody have the real story?
  7. Anyone know a reliable source for buying sunflower lecithin online? I'm allergic to soy. Thanks!
  8. I took several 'alternative' tests from several labs, including Enterolab, before I knew I should have at least done the doctor's blood test first and maybe an endoscopy while I was still eating gluten. Every alternative test came back very positive for gluten intolerance, likely celiac and a host of other significant allergies and intolerances. Even the...
  9. Also be aware that raw bean flour will be highly indigestible by most people when used in simple baking since it just doesn't "cook" enough in a baking situation. Beans need long soaking, preferrably with an acid of some kind and then long cooking to become digestible. I've used the canned bean idea given above with OK results. You just have to carefully...
  10. How much does this PillCam test cost and do you HAVE to have a specialist prescribe it? Can a consumer get one done on his own if you're willing to pay for it?
  11. I also have to stay away from corn and hydrogenated things besides the usual soy, dairy and gluten. So I've NEVER found a suitable margarine or butter substitute (except for coconut oil). What are the names of these European margarines you describe? Can they be sent over here reasonably by the case or is it not practical or even possible?
  12. Does anyone use inderal LA and xanax for gluten-caused anxiety and subsequent hypertension? What's your opinion of it?
  13. Could anyone who has some Mother's Margarine for Passover that is dairy, soy and corn free please post the exact ingredients from the package? I would sure appreciate it. Thanks!
  14. Since I can't have dairy, corn or soy, I have really missed anything resembling butter. Would you mind posting the exact ingredients of the Mother's Margarine sometime? It's getting near the time when it might be available. Thanks!
  15. Currently, I can't have any grains or starches at all. So beans are it. I use coconut oil for any high heat frying. I can't figure it out. I've used bean flour before and never had the bitter aftertaste. There isn't much heat generated when I grind them so I don't think that's it. If anything, heat should deactivate any bitter taste. I soak them...
  16. I have tried to make my own great northern bean flour. I soaked the beans for two days, put them in my dehydrator until they were rock hard again and then ground them finely in my VitaMix. But when I tried to make pancakes or muffins with the flour, there is a very bitter aftertaste. So I tried soaking the beans for two days and then cooking them thoroughly...
  17. I would hope the magazine would have a lot of substantial, cutting-edge information and not just glitzy ads. I recently subscribed to Martha Stewart Living and was extremely disappointed with the first issue I received. It has very little practical, useable content and a TON of ads. I agree about the difficulty getting the other two allergy magazines...
  18. Thank you both! I really appreciate your detailed replies. I am one of those people who in 2 years of very careful gluten free eating has pretty much gotten zero results. My latest "try" is the SCD. And even it is heavily modified since I can't have dairy, almonds and eggs either. Pretty boring. But interestingly, I honestly think I am slowly...
  19. I can't have any grain or starch whatsoever. I REALLY miss a good versatile bread to add variety and interest to my difficult diet. I need a loaf bread recipe made out of bean flour alone and NOT containing the following other allergens either: dairy, soy, eggs, yeast and gluten, of course. I'm using a stricter, modified version of the SCD so...
  20. Thanks for your reply! My symptoms are not typical. So I can't really tell immediately when something bothers me. I'm using the diet to troubleshoot ongoing health problems. It annoys me when diets are promoted without complete explanations for the restrictions. If you read the SCD books, they are usually very good about explaining 'why' most other...
  21. I realize that I'm replying to myself. But I went on some of the SCD sites to see what I could find. Chocolate appears to be some big mystery and no one seems to be able to give an answer as to why it can't be eaten on the diet. Anybody knowledgeable about this? Thanks!
  22. Why is chocolate or cocoa not allowed on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet? I was wondering if it was because of possible starch or sugar ingredients being added in the processing of it, or if there is something wrong with chocolate itself.
  23. Do changes in the nails like deep vertical ridges and/or no moons 'medically' mean something? I know that Eastern medicine often uses visible body changes as indications of things. But does the regular medical community think these signs can troubleshoot health deficiencies? If so, are there any books to that effect? It sounds interesting.
  24. Just read your post, mftnchn. One comment. For all my discomfort, I really don't have any joint pain whatsoever. Does that cast serious doubt on a Lyme's diagnosis? I've heard that it is a major symptom of the disease. Thanks.
  25. While I do have some definite gastro symptoms (but not D) mixed in with my main complaints, one problem I have had from the beginning is that my symptoms don't seem to follow any pattern. As much as people with uncomfortable, instantaneous D won't think so, it is honestly a bit of a help. At least you can reasonably monitor and troubleshoot when you have...
