Genr8 / Vitargo Sports Drink

Sorry... it's been a while since I've been in here so hopefully this won't come off like an ad.

I race bikes for a local team and we got a new sponsor this year in GENR8 / Vitargo. At first I was kinda bummed because they product clearly states that it contains Gluten, from Barley. When I mentioned this to the guy who runs the show over there he assured me that the levels of Gluten used are so low that he would be surprised if I had a reaction. He told me to use it sparingly at first and see if I had a reaction. And each time I used it to add a little bit more till I reached the required two scoops per bottle. It took me a week to work up to the two scoops and I never had a reaction... and I'm pretty sensitive. To be sure... I continued to use this stuff for last two months on almost all my rides. Not one reaction.

I have been using Hammer Nutrition Sustained Energy for the last two years and while I like the product and have found it to be good for really long rides... it tastes absolutely awful. I had to add their flavored gel to it and in doing so made the drink more of a shake, which is not very thirst quenching on a hot day.

If you've been looking for a really good endurance sports drink for either running or cycling, that tastes good and does the job... I think you should try this product. It's even sugar free.

I haven't looked online for sample packs but I would assume they're available.

I know how hard it is to find good sports drinks for endurance athletes and having found one I wanted to share.

Hope everyone is well!

Our Functional Medicine doctor has always ordered the Spectracell Test for Micronutrient Deficiencies.  It tests the intracellular levels of the nutrients, not blood levels.  When high dose, targeted supplementation did not resolve the deficiencies after retesting at 6 months and then a year, he ordered genetic tests.  I have a genetic inability to process Vitamin D, B12 and antioxidants, so I am on high doses of those for life.  The rest of the initial deficiencies resolved within 6 months to a year and a good multi vitamin is sufficient to address those.  My husband has historically had high homocysteine levels and his low folate, B 12 and B6  levels are because of his MTHFR gene mutation.  Always good to get to the root cause!

Welcome to the forum, @Idnam! Ranitidine and Famotidine are not proton pump inhibitors. They are H2 blockers. It is true that histamine intolerance is common in the celiac population. We often don't produce enough of a histamine regulator called DAO (diamine oxidase). Not sure, but this may be due to damage to the gut lining by celiac inflammation. You might also want to research MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) as it is often goes hand in glove with histamine intolerance and is actually the root cause. Or, at least that is my understanding. By the way, you can purchase DAO capsules but there is not clear evidence they work.

Very interesting, @Idnam.  When I was experiencing this problem at its worse, I found high carb meals like lots of rice or too many cookies were a trigger.
