Dear Fellow Gluten-Free Friends,
I want to get my hair done. The trouble is, despite going to the Web sites for these products, I have not found anything! I was hoping someone on here is a hairdresser or knows one. I may just have to read all of the packages first. Still, some companies do not label ingredients clearly. This is the list of items the hairdresser will need to use:

Matrix V-Light
Clairol Professional Kaleidocolors - Neutral
Hydrogen Peroxide 30 Volume by Joico
Enameled haircolor 6N and/or 7N
Kenra shampoos, styling gels, and hairsprays
Lamour Vita/E unscented or scented
Ion Anti-Frizz Solution Heat Protection

I would appreciate any help. I really do not know anything about the ingredients. Unless you are a professional stylist, getting information on the ingredients is nearly impossible. The general public do not normally need this type of information, but we do! I need to get back to the hair stylist soon. Thank you!

Sincerely,
NoGluGirl
Jin

If you have product you currently use, perhaps your stylist would be open to you brining those in and s/he using them on your head. That way you know contamination is not an issue and you can have a killer 'do.

Dear Kristina,
The thing is, these items have to be used for what I need done. She is going to do my hair like Jennifer Aniston. She has to strip the black dye, then add highlights and low-lights. It is a complicated procedure. Now my mother says we cannot afford it, so I do not think I will get to do it anyway. The stylist can use certain shampoos and stuff, but will not use any OTC styling aids.

Sincerely,
Jin

I will tell you that I have had some reactions to the chemicals in the past but I can't say that it was celiac related. As far as products go, I only use Aquage products at home and my hairdresser does the same at the salon. Good luck and I hope you get to have your hair done!!!!

Dear Amy,
Thank you for your input! :) It is difficult to say if there is gluten in some of these things. I have no idea about any chemical names for wheat, barley, oats or rye. Some of the labels I read look safe, but that does not necessarily mean anything. Web sites really only permit hairdressers to know some of this information. I will figure out something.

I sort of need to get my hair done. It was the cause of my dog's surgery. He is really dopey. Dart got very ill the other week. We took him to the vet. There was an obstruction in his small intestine, and it was a big wad of my hair! :o

Sincerely,

Have your hairdresser ask the distributor's sales rep to get you contact numbers for all of the brands that you will be using, that way, you can call and be certain. If you run into problems with just regular customer service, you may have to ask if you can speak with the chemist.
My husband teases me and says G.F. stands for Goodness Free! (though, there hasn't been much that I have prepared that he's passed on!)

Dear debslo,
I have contacted the chemist at Kenra. He got back to me, now I have to call him back! We appear to be playing phone tag. He said some of the products have gluten, and others do not. I need to run by and look at the ingredients, and see if there is a phone number on the package.

Dear almostnrn,
Thank you for your concern about the dog! :) He has not learned anything, either. Dart is already going around trying to eat hair again! Do you believe that? No matter how much I sweep, he manages to get a hold of something. If it is not hair, it is lint, or even a Q-Tip!

Sincerely,
NoGluGirl
