In the movie "The Invisible" Nicolas cage is eating breakfast and his mom is reading the newspaper and looks down at his shirt and says "What is that, irony?"
Does anyone know why she says that? Why would it be irony?

I recently saw the movie and the breakfast he was served looked like it would have been gluten free. The T-shirt made a few appearances in the movie, and each time "gluten free" was visible.

In case you're interested you can look at the shirt here:

Apparently some movie buff actually owns the shirt used in the movie and lists it at this site as memorabilia.

thats a good question. i remember seeing the movie and thinking it was really cool they made him "gluten free". but i don't remember the mom saying anything about the shirt and irony... were they talking about something else at the time and she was just looking at him? because the breakfast was bacon and eggs right? so maybe his character is gluten free but they didn't really make that a big part or issue of the movie.
or, maybe he wasn't gluten free and they just made sure that he was wearing a shirt that would be recognizable for when the dog was sniffing it and searching for him?? because it did say gluten free people who knew what that meant would be "awesome! a shout out!" but people who didn't would pay more attention to it because they would want to know what it meant too...? i don't know! just throwing something out there. either way i think its pretty cool it was in the movie.

It was in the very beginning so they weren't talking about anything else.
I just want to know if it has a meaning at all.
