Negative For Celiac But Positive For Gluten

I'm pretty new here but have been reading a lot of these posts. I have been tested (blood and biopsy) for celiac and both were negative. But a stool sample shows that I am gluten intolerant. Appears one of my parents passed this trait on to me. I have been VERY strictly gluten free for the past two weeks, and feeling the effects of withdrawal, so I know I'm on the right track having removed it from my diet.

I wasn't really shocked when I got the results of the blood and biopsy because I wasn't having intestinal trouble, just fatigue and light headed symptoms for the past number of years. But I almost fainted for real when I got the results of the other test. I thought being gluten intolerant was what celiac disease is. My doctor said not necessarily but I seem to read the opposite here. Am I just a freak????

no you're not a freak- but rather quite normal i think. and i think you may be misunderstanding what you're reading on here... maybe?? Celiac & Non Celiac Gluten Intolerance are not exactly the same thing- but they are both very serious and require strict adherence to the diet. so far the medical community only seems to be able to have a label & a set of antibodies assigned to the disease: "Celiac".. it's really just the tip of the iceberg.. and really quite confusing- you can see Celiacs on here with no stomach or skin issues.. and then you'll see people with skin problems and sick as a dog- and yet all their tests come out negative. yet they feel better on the diet.

sorry- am i just making it more confusing?? the bottom line is- if gluten makes you feel bad- (AND you have test results suggesting an intolerance)- then u should never eat it. gluten intolerance can lead to so so so many other ailments in the body besides the small intestine. you really dont need an official "celiac" label to suggest that gluten is damaging your body.

hope that helped :/

ps- if you look at all of our "signatures", you can see just how many additional illnesses gluten ingestion can result in :(

Thanks so much for the reply! Not confusing at all! I think I'm getting the hang of it.

Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.

My daughter has celiac disease and has had for a long time. She fell loses strictly gluten-free diet and recently got rid of all cutting boards in any gluten in her house at all. She just had a stool test and it came back showing of gigantic response to gluten in her diet. What could be going on since she doesn't eat any gluten and is very careful about any kind of hidden glue? Help!

I think sometimes the pain described here can be a result of a sort of 'perfect storm' of contributing factors.  Recently I had an appalling bout of lower back pain, lower burning gut pain and what felt like cramps.  I then started to think about what could have caused it and I realised it was several things that had set it off: I'd been carrying heavy luggage (back strain); I had been sitting down in a car for too long and wearing a tight belt (I have pudendal nerve issues and sacroiliac issues and this exacerbates the pain), and I had bloating and burning pain in my colon caused by eating too much soy, latte and caffeine, I guess putting further pressure in the lower abdomen.  I had this same pain prior to my diagnosis and a couple of years post-diagnosis, I'd quite forgotten how unpleasant it was.

HI @Kirbyqueen That's great news your insurance will be kicking in soon.  Sorry to see that you have been dealing with this for six months now, but I do hope you have managed to find some relief with some of the suggestions in the meantime. Perhaps come back and let us know what the doctor says. Cristiana

I agree, and hopefully your doctor will contact you soon about the next step, which will likely be an endoscopy to confirm your diagnosis. Do you have celiac disease symptoms?
