Celiac.com 05/01/2025 - Living with celiac disease changes how you experience the world—especially when it comes to food and drinks. For years, I struggled in social settings where beer was a staple and gluten-free options were scarce. I know firsthand how frustrating it can be to feel left out at a gathering or hesitant to trust what’s in your glass. That’s exactly why I founded Holidaily Brewing Co.—to create a space where gluten-free consumers never have to compromise.

The Social Struggles of Going Gluten-Free

If you are gluten-free, you know the routine: endless hypervigilance, reading ingredients, researching menus before a night out, quizzing servers about cross-contamination, feeling like a burden, and sometimes skipping social events altogether because it’s just easier. There is a feeling of grief over your loss of spontaneity. Whether it’s a dinner party, a wedding, a date, a networking event, or a casual happy hour, gluten-free options are often an afterthought.

When it comes to beer, the situation is even harder—many gluten-free drinkers feel like they have to settle for other options while their friends sip craft brews.  I’ve been there. As someone who loves a great beer, especially on certain occasions, I wasn’t willing to give up the craft experience just because my health required a gluten-free lifestyle.

A Taproom Experience Like No Other

One of the most rewarding moments since opening Holidaily has been watching customers experience their first real craft beer in years. We’ve had visitors from all over the world step into our taproom or try our beers on a Celiac Cruise, take that first sip, and burst into tears of joy—overwhelmed by the simple pleasure of being able to enjoy a cold beer with friends, worry-free.  Even better, the taste and quality of our beer is so good that friends and family don’t feel like they’re sacrificing either. It’s a reminder of why Holidaily exists—not just to brew great beer, but to create an experience where gluten-free drinkers feel included, understood, and celebrated.

    Creating an Inclusive Beer Culture

There’s something special about walking into a brewery, a baseball game, a tailgate, or a party and not having to worry about what’s in your glass. At Holidaily, every beer is brewed and certified in a dedicated gluten-free facility, ensuring that our customers can confidently enjoy their drink without hesitation. Whether it’s our Favorite Blonde Ale, Fat Randy IPA, or our newest Fruited Blonde Variety Pack, every sip is crafted with the same care and attention as any traditional craft beer.

Tips for Thriving in Social Settings

Navigating life with celiac disease gets easier when you’re empowered with knowledge and confidence. Here are some practical tips I’ve learned along the way to help enjoy social events safely, while still feeling included:

    • Use our Amazing Gluten-Free Network and Tools – Doing a little research beforehand can make outings more enjoyable and stress-free. Ask for recommendations from celiac and gluten-free social media groups or use apps like Find Me Gluten Free.
    • Look for Certified Gluten-Free Labels – Not all gluten-free labeled products, including beers, are created equal. To ensure safety, seek out an official gluten-free certification seal.
    • Speak Up – Don’t be afraid to ask questions about food and drink safety—it’s your health on the line. Educating wait staff, bartenders and servers fosters understanding and helps create safer dining experiences for everyone.
    • BYOE (Bring Your Own Everything) When Necessary – If you’re heading to a gathering or party, bring your favorite gluten-free beer and snacks so you can fully enjoy the experience. Many hosts appreciate guests bringing their own options.
    • Educate Others – The more people understand celiac disease, the easier it becomes to advocate for safe options at bars, restaurants, and events. A little awareness can lead to big improvements in inclusivity!
    • When in Doubt, Go for a Can or Bottle – If you’re unsure about draft beer safety, ordering a can or bottle of a certified-gluten free beer can provide extra peace of mind. If you still want to enjoy it in a glass, ask for one on the side and enjoy pouring yourself a cold brew!

    Cheers to a Gluten-Free Life

At Holidaily, we believe everyone deserves great beer, regardless of dietary restrictions. My hope is that gluten-free consumers can stop feeling like outsiders when it comes to craft beer—and instead, become part of a growing movement of inclusion, celebration, and deliciously brewed possibility.
