I don't know if any of you have a Texas de Brazil near you. It's a Brazilian steakhouse that opened recently near me. I called them to find out if I could safely eat there. The girl on the phone didn't bat an eye and said, yes, I'll put a note on your reservation that says Celiac, and the chef will come out and explain everything to you and tell you what you can and can't have. I almost fell on the floor LOL. I am going Saturday so I will let you know how it was.

I read some reviews on UrbanSpoon.com about them that said they are great. So, fingers crossed...

The Brazilian Steakhouse concept seems to be a mostly gluten-free one. So people who don't have that one in their town, might find that a different company will work well, too.

I looked this Texas de brazil up. They are in a lot of places. Some of these grills don't have any gluten bread - just the traditional cheese bread made with tapioca flour.

Report back on here after you eat there, please. Edited: Duh! You said you would! :)

We have two Brazilian steakhouses here near me in Utah. Both are awesome. Both also have the Brazilian cheesebread which is to die for and naturally gluten free! I am so thrilled to have a place to go that is almost entirely gluten free and served bread that I can eat. I'm guessing that most people don't even know it's gluten free.

I checked it out and they do! So that makes three around here, sort of. The other two both have locations in SLC but also have locations way closer to me also. I love spending an occasional day up in the city but have no desire to drive up there just for dinner. 

 

And when you decide you are in love with Brazilian cheesebread let us know. I'll share a recipe so you can have it at home. You need a mini-muffin pan for it though.

As promised here's my review of Texas de Brazil. HOLY CRAP IT WAS AMAZING! :P

 

The chef came out and walked me through the tremendous salad bar. There were only four things at the salad bar that I could not eat! The salads were all without croutons, they had the croutons in a separate bowl. There was shrimp, salmon, soups, all different salads and cheeses. And at this particular location (in Yonkers, NY) ALL of the meats were gluten free. The chef did tell me that at some locations the sausage is the only meat we can't have.

 

The cuts of meat were delicious, and the cheese bread - oh don't get me started on the cheese bread - it was delicious! Adelaide, please please share your cheese bread recipe!!

 

It was pricey - not someplace you can eat every week - but WELL worth the money. The service was great, and the chef came out to check on me twice. I ate there Saturday night and have had no stomach issues at all. I highly recommend!

 

So there's my five star review. I hope you're all having a good day today!

This is the recipe I use and it has never failed me. I use half cheddar and half parm. I like to add a load of garlic and some basil to it to go with pasta as a sub for garlic bread. I've also been known to mince apples and use those in place of half of the cheese and add sage to go with pork. Tried a few times replacing some or all of the oil with butter, that is a no go. They're just so fun and so relatively cheap to play with. I've considered trying a breakfast one with crumbled bacon or sausage in it. But that whole "not supposed to eat sausage or bacon" thing is getting in the way. :lol: (Of course I'm not supposed to be near the cheese either so I indulge in these less frequently these days.)

 

Sorry about being slow. I'm a little touched in the head these days on remembering what I was doing. A swift kick in the pants or a message will generally get me back in line. :P

      So her tissue transglutaminase antibody is almost 4x the upper end of the normal range - likely a real result. The other things you can do besides an endoscopy would be: 1.  Genetic testing.  Unfortunately a large proportion of the population has genes permissive for celiac disease, but only a small proportion of those with the genes have it. With family history it is likely she has the genes. 2.  Try a gluten free diet and see if the symptoms go away AND the antibody levels return to normal. (This is what I would do). Endoscopies aren’t always accurate in patients as young as your daughter. Unfortunately, without an endoscopy, some doctor later in her life may question whether she really has celiac disease or not, and you’ll need to be a fierce mama bear to defend the diagnosis! Be sure you have a good written record of her current pediatrician’s diagnosis. Doing a gluten challenge for an endoscopy later in life could cause a very uncomfortable level of symptoms.   Having yourself, your husband and your son tested would be a great idea.

      here are the lab ranges.  Normal ranges for tissue transglutaminase are: <15.0 Antibody not detected > or = 15.0 Antibody detected normal for endomysial antibody is < 1.5. So she is barely positive but still positive.

      I have been diagnosed with coeliacs disease today after endoscopy, bloods and CT scan. I have also been diagnosed with Mesenteric Panniculitis today. Both of which I believe are autoimmune diseases. I have been told I will need a dexa scan and a repeat CT scan in 6 months. I had not even heard of Mesenteric Panniculitis till today. I don’t know much about it? Has anyone else got both of these.

      The normal ranges can vary for the tissue transglutaminase and gliadin antibody celiac tests because the units aren’t absolute.  Could you please tell us what the normal ranges are for the laboratory used? If her tissue transglutaminase results are 10-fold above the normal range some would diagnose her on that alone.  Endomysial antibody ranges are more standardized, and a titer of 1:5 would usually be normal.  Might that be the normal range and not her result?  Her total immunoglobulin A is normal for her age. (This is tested because if low, then the other IgA tests might not be valid).

      Hello there! New to celiac community, although I have lots of family in it.  My two year old was just diagnosed with celiac disease based on symptoms and bloodwork.  symptoms (swollen belly, stomach hurting, gagging all the time, regular small vomit, fatigue, irritability, bum hurting, etc) she got tests at 18 months and her bloodwork was normal. She just got tested again at 2 1/2  because her symptoms were getting worse and these were her results :   Tissue Transglutaminase Ab, IgA 58.8 Unit/mL (High) Endomysial Antibody IgA Titer 1:5 titer (Abnormal)   Gliadin Antibody IgA < 1.0 Unit/mL Gliadin Antibody IgG 8.5 Unit/mL Immunoglobulin A 66 mg/dL Her regular pediatrician diagnosed her with celiac and told us to put her on the strict gluten free diet and that we wouldn’t do an endoscopy since it was so positive and she is so little (26lbs and two years old). I’m honestly happy with this decision, but my family is saying I should push and get an endoscopy for her. It just seems unnecessary and an endoscopy has its own risks that make me nervous. I’m certain she has celiac especially with it running in mine and my husbands family. We are now thinking of testing ourselves and our 5 year old as well.  anyways what would y’all recommend though? Should we ask for an endoscopy and a GI referral? (We are moving soon in 5 months so I think that’s part of why she didn’t refer us to GI)
