Hla Dq2 And Hla Dq8 Test

Good evening,

I'm Maurizio and I'm Italian.

At the moment I'm in England for study English.

Anyway, for 3 years I have had the typical symptoms of coeliac disease but my blood test was negative (I did the test in 2011) and also endoscopy was negative (2011)..

A few days ago I read some articles about HLA DQ2 and HLA DQ8 test.

Now I want to do these test but I don't know if is it possible in UK..is it?

Or, are there other possibilities? Do you know laboratories which I can do these exams (in USA are quickly?)?

There is an online lab, not sure if they ship to UK or not. They test the stool it's called enterolab

Hi Ol_Mauri, I'm in the uk and my gp arranged the general coeliac blood tests for me which tested positive. They then refe red me to a specialist at the hospital to arrange the biopsy but me being me I couldnt tolerate the procedure so they arranged hla typing tests as an extra confirmation that I had the disease.

You need to contact your normal gp first and ask to be referred to a specialist (I doubt your gp will do this test).

Bear in mind that I doubt they will diagnose you purely on positive hla typing results but it will rule you in or out of the possibility of you getting celiac disease.

Do they not automatically test children in Italy they for celiac by the age of 6 years old?

Just to add...as far as I'm aware, just because you might test negative on all celiac tests, it doesnt mean you arent classed as 'non celiac gluten sensitivity' so after all testing, maybe you could try eliminating gluten and see how you feel.

In Italy the situation is very complicated and doctors haven't a good knowledge to gluten sensivity..

Anyway, next week I'm going to my GP for ask..do you know how long do you usually wait for the results of the test? (hla)

And also, how much does it cost?

If your gp isnt helpful, you could always ask if they can recommend a private practice who can do the tests, but obviously you'd have to pay for testing.

This links states that hla typing is not routinely used, so you may struggle to get tested thru the nhs (I think due to cost to the nhs and because on its own, it doesnt give a definitive diagnosis) but it won't hurt for you to ask.

Ok, I think healt is very important...

If my GP won't, I can pay for this test, because I want to resolve this situation very quickly..

I can't continue in this manner, it's awful for me..

Well its important that you keep going to your doctor and explaining your symptoms and you don't give in until they do more tests and you get some answers.

Theres lots of knowledgeable people on here, so maybe you could start a new thread about any of your symptoms/concerns. All the best.

I hope in the doctor but.. I think is difficult to convince he about whatever i want.. (genetic test and blood test for gluten)..

Monday I have an appointment and.. I hope!!

I'm having my son tested at 6 month of age, he's only 2 month old now but he's been booked in for the test since before he was born :). It's the smart thing to do. Every child should have it done.

and..what do you think about coeliac disease stool test?

 

I don't know if is better the genetic test or this stool test..

You can do a Open Original Shared Link genetic test for $99, although the shipping to the UK might make it quite a bit more expensive than that. It takes some detective work, but you can figure out your HLA-DQ2/8 status using the 23andme results.

      What are your daily meals? Guilty pleasure snacks? Protein bars? I feel when looking for gluten free foods they are filled with sugar cholesterol. Looking for healthy gluten-free protein bars. Something to fill since sometimes I feel like not to eat anything. Especially if on vacation and unsure of cross contamination I figure go with a salad and protein...

      Unfortunately, there is presently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. NCGS is thought to be much more common than celiac disease. We know that celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder but the mechanism of NCGS is less clear. Both call for an elimination of gluten from the diet.

I am unfamiliar with celiac labs terminology so I wanted to know if the presence of HLA variants (DA:101, DA:105, DQB1:0301 and DQB1:0501) that the labs detected had any merit in predisposing one to be more sensitive to gluten/carbs than the general population?       My journey is it gluten or fiber?

      Thanks bumped it up and now take all 3 vitamins 2 capsules each with the super b complex at breakfast. I will give it some time to see if I notice a difference. I am going to track my eating daily diary on a myfitness pal app to see if the "claimed" gluten free foods bother me or not.

      Thanks for your reply Trents…most appreciated.  I am unfamiliar with celiac labs terminology so I wanted to know if the presence of HLA variants (DA:101, DA:105, DQB1:0301 and DQB1:0501) that the labs detected had any merit in predisposing one to be more sensitive to gluten/carbs than the general population?  Also,  I found what you said about NCGS very interesting and I appreciate you mentioning that.  I’ve worked hard to research and advocate for myself with my Hematologist and now with a new GI, since my bowel surgery and to maintain my Vitamin B12 health concurrent with keeping my levels of Iron in the optimal range. I’ve been tested for SIBO (do not have it), biopsy showed negative for HPylori, and have had Fecal studies done (nothing showed up) and I understand how a loss of a large amount of bowel could be highly impacting re: SIBO, malabsorption and motility issues. So I’ve managed pretty well diet and elimination-wise until just recently. That said, this new problem with extreme bloating, distention and upper girth, NAFLD just occured over the last 4 months so it is new for me and I thought celiac might be a possible issue. I’ll probably just continue on in this less gluten/carbs seem to be better for me and see how reintroducing certain foods go.  Thanks again.

      Please can anyone help. I was diagnosed on 23rd December and I am trying my best to get my head around all the things to look out for. I have read that yeast extract is not to be eaten by coeliacs. Why? And is this all yeast extract. Or is this information wrong. Thanks.
