Taking 15Yo For Tests Tomorrow!

She knows she reacts to milk proteins, and she has significant fatigue, almost daily. She has unexplained tummy pain now and then. She (and I) suspect that she reacts to gluten, but she hasn't wanted to go off of it. She has watched me go off gluten and become far more sensitive to it, so she'd like to avoid all that. AND she and her sister run a bakery. I'm comforting myself with the thought that she could run a gluten-free bakery if it turns out that she is gluten intolerant.

So, I'm going to ask for blood tests for reactions to gluten, dairy, & egg (which she just doesn't like). I'll also ask for a complete celiac panel and then common deficiencies like Vit D, calcium, iron.

What am I missing? This is my chance. She's still on gluten, so I'm hoping to extrapolate from her lab results for myself and the other children.

Sounds like a good plan. The full celiac panel is:

tTG IgA and tTG IgG

DGP IgA and DGP IgG

EME IgA

total serum IgA (a control test)

AGA IgA and AGA IgG (older and less reliable test but though by some to show non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI) as well as celiac disease)

Get as many tests as possible; some doctors only run a couple.

She may need to continue eating gluten after testing in case there is a follow-up endoscopic biopsy.

The other common deficiencies for celiacs are B12, ferritin, A, potassium, magnesium, zinc, copper.

Good luck with her testing.   :)

i think Nicole meant to say she needs to stay on gluten if they decide to do a biopsy.  Make sure your daughter stays on gluten until all testing is complete!

here's what I usually suggest testing wise

Comprehensive Celiac Panel:

DGP iga/igg

ttg iga/igg

EMA

Total iga serum-this is a control test to make sure you make enough iga to validate the other testing

check out page 12 in this report for testing information:

Vitamin/Minerals:

Complete Blood Count (CBC)

Complete Metabolic Profile (CMP)

Vitamin B-12

Folic Acid

Vitamin A, D, E, K

Ferritin

Iron

Magnesium

Zinc

Copper

Niacin

Riboflavin

C-Reactive Protein

good luck today!!

*EDIT: I'd suggest writing all symptoms down before going to the doctors.  That way if you get nervous, I do  :), you don't forget all your questions because you've got it all in front of you.

`Oops I did mean to eat gluten.  Thank you! I am editing the previous post that I made.

Poor thing gave 5 vials this morning, but I'm hoping we'll get useable information!

The doc added adrenal function tests to the list. Could that be related to celiac or gluten intolerance at all?

nvsmom Community Regular

Some think that adrenals get worn out after dealing with illness/autoimmune issues for a long while. Adrenal fatigue is not a completely accepted idea but I think it has merit myself.

I hope she gets clear results.  :)

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding

I think I found a huge culprit for severe reactions to create worsening of my c symptoms. Do people with celiac have sensitivity and /or have opposite reaction to certain medications Where can I find a list ?  I'm new here I'm.wondering why I am getting worse when I take certain medicine...the burning feet.  Rebound muscle pain so intense  How many people get opposite effects or have a horrible attack after these meds

Does anyone know if that includes scrambled eggs and healthy smart butter (,gluten free) I add a very tiny amount of margarine less than a teaspoon.  I did no't have any bread    It just seems like no matter what I eat my stomach and nerves over fire and here comes a host of horrible symptoms. My lower abdomen feels horrible, my right leg thigh muscle.. very odd. Jaw pain. Burning feet , joint pain , you name it  The anxiety just creeps up into brain fog. I don't think I could explain this to anyone who is unfamiliar.  Also,  I most likely will not remember posting this until I check it.  This is highly unusual for me because I have an excellent memory.  One weekend before I knew anything about celiac I lost an entire weekend from severe brain fog, confusion, pain, etc.  I honestly thought I was losing my mind. When I think back I recall eating a lot of PBJ sandwiches and turkey sandwiches.  Once again did not know about gluten.  I was just too sick to cook. Do people fast during attacks ?? It seems horrible to keep going through this. I hope I'm not causing my own problems... I wonder if I should fast because I'm not eating gluten .  Chicken ,  scrambled eggs no milk , canned carrots,  gluten free low sugar low fat Greek yogurt which I already posted about 😞 Any suggestions I am open... I am bedridden when this happens to me.  Thank you Celiac community. 🙏🏻❤️

Yeah, that sounds super familiar. When inflammation levels are high — especially at the start of changing your diet — the body often develops a fructose and lactose intolerance. Unfortunately, the only thing that really helps is cutting out anything that isn’t lactose-free or that contains sugar. So basically, stick to meat, veggies, fish…
