He's Definitely Growing Now!

We had to go in to the doctor yesterday. Poor little man has strep. I think my family is just prone to it. He's had his tonsils out and this is the second time this year he's had it. :(

BUT...that trip to the doctor has shown us that he has gained 4lbs since the last time we were in to the doctor which is less than a month ago. We've had lots of visits to doctors lately. *sigh*

The doctor we saw is wonderful. She's always so helpful. The first words out of her mouth were to ask us how dealing with his Celiac is going. Then she commented on how much taller he's gotten and the fact that after close to a year of unchanged weight....he's finally gaining weight again! :)

He's also suddenly eating meat. He's still very picky about what kind of meat but I had probably 5lbs of shredded chicken made and he was the biggest eater of said chicken! This is my child that I swore was going to be a life long vegetarian the way he ate. He's never really eaten meat at all aside from an occasional hot dog or chicken nugget or spaghetti with meat sauce (though that one is iffy) and even those were rare. He even ate tacos with taco meat the other day! He NEVER does that as beef seems to be his strongest dislike. Usually we'd have tacos and his tacos would consist of tortillas, shredded cheese, apple sauce and peas. He's odd with his food combinations. Occasionally I could add some beans.

But I think his stomach is finally starting to heal. He hasn't complained about his stomach hurting in weeks and he has been a bottomless pit for most of that time also! I mean, seriously hungry! For breakfast he'll have eggs and sausage (usually 2 eggs) and when he decided he liked the shredded chicken, he decided he had to have that too. So it would be 1 or 2 eggs, sausages and a shredded chicken sandwich! And then he would still be hungry by 10! Goodness! He comes home starving from school because he doesn't have enough time to eat.

Anyway...I just wanted to say I'm so relieved. He's starting to catch up to where his siblings were at his age. Guess who's going to be getting new clothes for Christmas? :)

I bet he didn't like meat before because it made him feel bad. When our guts are a mess, heavy foods like meat don't sit well. Now he is making up for lost time (and nutrients). Congratulations!

Thanks everyone! :) I don't think I've ever been so happy going to see the doctor about strep! ;)

Then today happened. *sigh* It's his brother's 16th birthday. Grandma got a Dairy Queen ice cream cake....it even said gluten free, had the sticker on it all that fun stuff. But people are human. I let the little guy eat a whole piece of that cake. Then my husband came walking into the living room with the lid to said cake. He's says..."Ummm...look at the ingredients" Crap. DIRECTLY next to the sticker it says the cake contains soy, milk and WHEAT! I'm so angry. I do believe I am going to be calling and complaining tomorrow. Unbelievable. Also...kicking myself in the rear for not looking more closely at it. I've been reading and rereading everything and educating my in laws (who have been really good with this!) and then something like this gets me. He was so excited to get to eat some of that cake. Nothing like a double whammy now...strep and glutening.

aww - poor guy :(  but he has a little of that extra weight to help him and if his guts are healing, it might help him fight off the infection.  plus, look to the future:  he probably won't catch every little virus that goes around, because his immune system will be working correctly to fight germs instead of gluten.  don't beat yourself up too much, mama!  it's great news that he is growing and gaining weight  :)  keep up the good work!

Phew! I messaged my local DQ this morning. Apparently they use all the same generic labels but I guess they are supposed to say "if it contains the cookie crunch layer" which this cake did not.

The girl that got back to me was really very concerned that we had gotten a cake that was labeled wrong but after really looking at the cake again and her explanation of their labeling, I am no longer worried that it was labeled wrong. There was no cookie crumble layer in the cake that we got. I will still keep an eye on him but I think he'll be ok. He was complaining his stomach hurt last night but I think it's more to do with the strep and medication (yes I checked that too!) and just with the fact that he doesn't eat that kind of stuff often and it's rich and full of junk.

We shall see how he is feeling when he gets home from school today.

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding

I think I found a huge culprit for severe reactions to create worsening of my c symptoms. Do people with celiac have sensitivity and /or have opposite reaction to certain medications Where can I find a list ?  I'm new here I'm.wondering why I am getting worse when I take certain medicine...the burning feet.  Rebound muscle pain so intense  How many people get opposite effects or have a horrible attack after these meds

Does anyone know if that includes scrambled eggs and healthy smart butter (,gluten free) I add a very tiny amount of margarine less than a teaspoon.  I did no't have any bread    It just seems like no matter what I eat my stomach and nerves over fire and here comes a host of horrible symptoms. My lower abdomen feels horrible, my right leg thigh muscle.. very odd. Jaw pain. Burning feet , joint pain , you name it  The anxiety just creeps up into brain fog. I don't think I could explain this to anyone who is unfamiliar.  Also,  I most likely will not remember posting this until I check it.  This is highly unusual for me because I have an excellent memory.  One weekend before I knew anything about celiac I lost an entire weekend from severe brain fog, confusion, pain, etc.  I honestly thought I was losing my mind. When I think back I recall eating a lot of PBJ sandwiches and turkey sandwiches.  Once again did not know about gluten.  I was just too sick to cook. Do people fast during attacks ?? It seems horrible to keep going through this. I hope I'm not causing my own problems... I wonder if I should fast because I'm not eating gluten .  Chicken ,  scrambled eggs no milk , canned carrots,  gluten free low sugar low fat Greek yogurt which I already posted about 😞 Any suggestions I am open... I am bedridden when this happens to me.  Thank you Celiac community. 🙏🏻❤️

Yeah, that sounds super familiar. When inflammation levels are high — especially at the start of changing your diet — the body often develops a fructose and lactose intolerance. Unfortunately, the only thing that really helps is cutting out anything that isn’t lactose-free or that contains sugar. So basically, stick to meat, veggies, fish…
