Osteoporosis is complex to say the least, and best attacked on several fronts.  Think of it as a four legged stool.  One leg is Calcium Balance, another is hormone platform, a third is weight bearing exercise, and the last is stress management.

A gluten-free diet that is truly nutrient dense and not j

Hope this helps...

Thoughtful, useful post - thank you.

I am still losing bone in spite of addressing all the legs on your stool. Malabsorption is not an issue. The exact cause of the loss cannot at the moment be found. My doctor of course wants me to take any one of the wonder drugs (that take years to work - if they work). I tried one and gave up because of the physical distress it caused. I was holding my own but am now once again going negative. Not a happy picture. Claire

Hi Claire -

Good to see more info for you...and for others, too. I also found out, 4 years or so ago, that I have osteopenia, so I also need to get more serious about how to help my gut absorb more calcium...

Anway, I am hoping you are going to do the Enterolab gene test - I'll be checking in occassionally on you... and George... and the other members I have come to 'feel' for - hoping that we all make progess together.

Oh, about this type of medium making it easier to share our stuff than in-person contact - I agree - it is good to be able to focus on our issues, without the 'noise' of in-person social interactions...and to also be able to do so when we feel up to it.

Fondly,

Gina

Good to 'see your face' again. I am sure everyone misses hearing from you. I will send you some osteo tips 'off forum' as it does tend to take others off topic. Claire

So far 3 months in - worsening symptoms. I have had the worst constipation in my life and I am primarily eating naturally gluten-free foods like potatoes, eggs, salad with homemade dressing, corn tortillas, etc. I hate gluten-free bread and pasta so I don't eat it. Occasionally I eat gluten-free almond flour crackers. As stated in the post, I don't have any vitamin deficiency. I was already tested.

Talk to your  Talk to your provider about testing for vitamin and mineral deficiency.  celiac disease causes malabsorption and eventually malnutrition.  Especially vitamin D. Having the gallbladder removed seems to be a common step on the way to a Celiac Disease Diagnosis,  Gallbladder is a sympton of deficient Choline. Eggs and red meat are the primary source..Choline makes up a majority of the bile salts.  The bile gets thick, doesn't get enough into intestine to digest fats well.  Can eventually back up into gallbladder, cause gallstones.  Without bile, bowel movements can become hard. Try to avoid all processed foods while you are healing, The gluten-free foods are not fortified with vitamins and use various ingredients to mimic fat that bothers many Celiacs.  Choose vegatables with low omega 6.  Optimum omega 6 to omega 3 ratio is less than 3:1.  Wheat flour is 22:1.  Grass fed milk is 1:1.   Commercial Dairies milk is 5:1.  They feed wheat, rye and barley Gluten as part of the food mix.

Your DGP-G is also high. The thing to do now would be to trial the gluten-free diet for a few months to see if there is improvement in symptoms.

Welcome to the forum, @Roses8721! How long were you off gluten before getting the celiac blood testing done? The testing is not valid after having been gluten free for a significant period of time. Many of your symptoms align with celiac disease.
