Ok so I've been very vigilant at what is in my food, and reading labels like a hawk, but this week I've noticed a few oddities. At this point I will mention things may hit a borderline tmi.

So Thursday I had to attend a company meeting, and they had drinks, being little Ms. Researcher I looked up what brands and spirits are safe to consume. So I saved that list to my bookmarks on my phone and chose to consume those ones. So I wound up drinking some Titos vodka and cranberry juice drinks. For a few hrs I did not feel anything alarming at all, until I woke up at 6 am to feed my kitty. Now before going to bed I did eat some gluten free chips , and a Amy's tofu scramble. Note in the past I have had no history of tofu making me Ill. But needless to say I found myself parked in the bathroom for a bit. And past few days I've been a bit feeling not so hot.

Other factors so my ecig. Which my brand did state in their research lab their liquids are gluten free, but my model broke and I'm temp having to substitute that with another brand that touts the same but, I'm not to thrilled with it and wants to finger point that but that seems to not really coincide with my un awesome feelings. I honestly do not suspect it's a hang over. Me hungover is a bit different from this, and doesn't feel as icky or draining.

Granted with me being in a mentorship to hopefully cross train to be a programmer I've been a bit stressed out, could stress cause a effect that mimics being glutened? Please bear in mind I've only been at these new changes only three months with only one misshap mid July thanks to pf changs(will not ever go back one and done here is my motto with things like that ). I highly doubt that I'm still suffering from that as again that was almost over a month ago.

My other culprit is my sleep schedules are forked up as I have been seriously busting my tail to learn how to code. On avg per sleepy time I sleep aprox 5-6 hours .

So my question is has anyone experienced glutened like symptoms from drinking said to be safe spirits, or has stress and wacky sleep cycles happen to you? I've been wracking my brain to figure out what is or has made me as of late feeling old familiar unwanted symptoms.

Thx in advance,

Serielda

Note this is a repost after I goofed and posted previously in the wrong place. This is where I wanted to place this post.

I find that I don't tolerate hard liquor anymore. I feel drained, nauseated, and anxious even after one drink. I stick to wine and ciders, that's it for me!

The time before last, that is what I did do, nurse a glass of wine for the event and things went good. However the last time I was a bit to experiemental. Side note I am going over my food log again and doing research on everything to make sure that I did not miss something that may have been overlooked.

Back when I ate gluten, I was sick every day.  I would wake up, spend a couple of hours in and out of the bathroom, and then move on with my day.  That was typical.

Post-Gluten, I feel good most days, but my intestinal motility is, as you say, "forked."  So I feel fine 5 days out of the week (but start to notice that I'm not "going" very regularly) and then on the 6th day I suddenly feel sick, and I feel like I'm throwing up except that it's coming out the other end.  It's not because I ate gluten, but because I'm so full of ... well, you know ... that my body decides to empty itself out.  Occasionally a large meal will trigger this, but that's not necessarily the case.

My point is not to give gross, disgusting details of my digestive tract.  My point is that when you have problems in your GI tract, sometimes you'll feel sick and it won't be gluten.  If you drank anything bubbly, ate too much or too much fiber, ate too much fat, ate too much dairy--the list goes on and on.  If I tried to trace my symptoms to something I ate or drank, I would come to the conclusion that everything contains gluten.

All that said, if you start to notice a pattern of feeling sick after ingesting something that says it's gluten free, I would be wary.  There was something I used to eat regularly and which supposedly contained no gluten.  I ordered it all the time, but I began to notice that every time I had a certain topping on it, I would feel sick.  I started to order it without that topping and didn't have the same reaction.  Now, 2-3 years later, I went back to the company's website and they say that this particular ingredient DOES contain gluten, where 2-3 years ago they said it did not.  But unless you're in that kind of situation, I would put gluten low on the list of culprits.

When you are still healing different foods/drinks can cause gluten type reactions.  If you eat something and still get sick it isn't that you were "glutened" it may just be your body saying that it can't handle the ingredients the food contains.  You may tolerate rice today and two months from now no longer be able to.  Our body changes and heals at such different paces.

Yes.  Now, if you hit your finger with a hammer once, wouldn't you do your best not to do it again?  You have identified a direct connection between gluten and pain.  Gluten is your hammer.  Now you have to decide if you need a medical diagnosis.  Some countries have aid benefits tgat you can get if you have the diagnosis, but you must continue eating a gluten-normal diet while pursuing the diagnosis. Otherwise the only reason to continue eating gluten is social. There are over 200 symptoms that could be a result of celiac disease.. Celiac Disease and Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity  both cause multiple vitamin and mineral deficiency.  Dealing with that should help your recovery, even while eating gluten.  Phosphatidyl Choline supplements can help your gut if digesting fats is a problem,  Consider that any medications you take could be causing some of the symptoms, aside from gluten.

Welcome to the forum, @Ben98! If you have been consciously or unconsciously avoiding gluten because of the discomfort it produces then it is likely that your blood antibody testing for celiac disease has been rendered invalid. Valid testing requires regular consumption of generous amounts of gluten. The other strong possibility is that you have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease but does not have the autoimmune component and thus does not damage the small bowel lining. It is 10x mor common than celiac disease. There is currently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Some experts in the field believe it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Having one or both of the primary genes for developing celiac disease does not imply that you will develop active celiac disease. It simply establishes the potential for it. About 40% of the population has the genetic potential but only about 1% develop active celiac disease.

TTG blood test and total IGA tested on many occasions which have always remained normal, upper GI pain under my ribs since 2022. I had an endoscopy in 2023 which showed moderate gastritis. no biopsy’s were taken unfortunately. genetic test was positive for HLADQ2. extreme bloating after eating gluten, it’ll feel like I’ve got bricks in my stomach so uncomfortably full. the pain is like a dull ache under the upper left almost like a stitch feeling after a long walk. I am just wanting some advice has anyone here experienced gastritis with a gluten issue before? thank you

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.
