Iron Tablets & Medication

Hi

I'm nearly a week into consuming gluten again and am wondering should I stop my iron tablets???  Will they interfere with the blood test results and any other tests?  Also, I do take antihistamine (daily - for sinuses and itching) and also domperidone  omeprazole for when my stomach gets really bad.  Will these hinder any test ?  should I just come off everything so that the doctors can see me at my worst?

I've made an appointment to see my GP and am going to ask to be referred to a private gastrologist (if that is the right word) as I've realised my husband has Bupa as a perk of his job and we've never used it - I do find it so hard to be taken seriously by my doctor, she's very willing to hand out various drugs but that is about it !  Hopefully, even if the results are negative, I can get peace of mind once and for all !

Ali

I think this is something worth discussing with your doctor. I can not imagine that an antihistamine or iron tablet would alter the outcome of a celiac blood panel, but I am not a doctor. Not sure about the other drugs you are taking and their impact.

Thank you so much for your advice and for replying - much appreciated !!!  Ali

Hi CurrantCottage

Love your user name!

Just to say that I was taking iron tablets prescribed by my GP when I was referred to my BUPA gastroenterologist as I was recovering from iron anemia - and he (the gastroenterologist) told me post diagnosis to keep taking them, too.   I was taking something called ferrous gluconate.

Do check with your GP regarding the other stuff as sometimes medication can affect blood tests.  If you have already seen your GP by now, and still haven't got an answer, you could put a call through to the consultant's office and the secretary could check with the consultant for you.  I think the main thing is that you make your consultant aware of what medication you are taking so he/she can factor this in.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
