Italy Or France?

We are taking an extended family vacation to either Italy or France. Two of us (me and my little one) have celiac disease. From what I have heard, Italy should have lots of safe dining options. Any personal experiences/tips? What about France? Is the awareness the same there?

I'd pick Italy...

I'm hoping to go to Paris next year and have identified seven bakeries/cafes that say they are completely gluten free!

If language is an issue, I would recommend Triumph Dining Cards - they come in several languages that address your needs.

I found Italy much  easier. You can  find many references and lists  online in English form  Italian Celiac Assoc.   you can find  gluten-free items  in plethora of pharmacies and  stories.

I have just returned from vacation in Italy and Paris and Italy was by far the easiest, the most understanding, receptive and helpful toward gluten free dietary requirements. We stayed in apartments, so we could do our own cooking, and found gluten free food in supermarkets and pharmacies. There are also quite a few gluten free restaurants and AIC (Italian coeliac association) approved restaurants. The AIC website also has a gluten free restaurant directory which was a great help.

Paris on the other hand was a bit of a struggle. The language barrier didn't help. A lot of the restaurants/bakeries/cafes I found online did not exist at the address. It was very frustrating. They had limited gluten free food in the supermarkets, and don't sell any in the pharmacies. We found some gluten free supplies in naturalla and bio-coop stores. Supermarkets are also closed on Sunday's, so you need to plan ahead.

Hope that helps.

Good luck.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
