DH Reaction after Bobs Red Mill gluten-free Oats

Has anyone else had a bad reaction with Bob's Red Mill gluten-free Oats?  I had only tried a little of the oats at Christmas time and thought I was okay with them.  So the other day I was craving cookies.  I made awesome cookies using these oats, and then of course since I craved them so badly I ate four of them!  So then I had a terrible night with DH type rash, mouth sores and generally feeling kinda lousy....  Finally took an antihistamine and drank a lot of water which helped greatly and the next day was better.  Today I am okay but curious, was it an isolated thing?  OR did I just think I was okay with gluten-free Oats, but in reality I am not.   Sheesh, I am so disappointed, I really wanted those darn cookies!

Some people with celiac can't tolerate even gluten free oats. Is this the first time you've had such a reaction?

What other ingredients were in the cookies? Could you have had an a reaction to something else in the cookies??

Is it possible there was an unintentional gluten cross-contamination?

Many times a certain percentage of us celiacs with DH are also sensitive to oats.  Unfortnately, I am also sensitive to oats.  My DH also flares up when stressed.  I have avoided oats as well as wheat, barley and rye.  I can't even use Aveeno products.  I really miss oats.

Count another one with dh who can't do certified gluten-free oats. They got me big time. I had not had gluten-free oats since going gluten-free until Dec. of 2014 when I began making some bread that contained oat flour -- (BRM brand) but I don't blame BRM specifically - just gluten-free oats in general) & WHAM! I took a big hit.

It is known that many people who are sensitive to the gliadin in gluten, are also sensitive to the avenins in oats.   There may be a test for avenin sensitivity, perhaps you should take that test to make sure.

I do not tolerate oats of any kind. I was told via my gastro in Boston that there is a protein similar to the Celiac protein culprit which makes me sick.  No oats for me, gluten free or otherwise!

I am glad to see this posted. I was eating the gluten-free oats at my mom's home while visiting her and I kept feeling odd. I got my thyroid retested and saw the numbers going up again.  I got a doc to give me Armor and  thought that would work- then I was itching  all over plus my heart started racing on a low level. Got off of that and just decided like many of you all - stay off the oats.  I have stayed off of corn too, as I have just about decided to give up all grains.  Been feeling much better.

Same thing happened to me. I def have the symmetrical itchy rash on my arms, neck and legs. I asked my family doctor if it could be celiac or a gluten sensitivity and she was like no. But its recurring and I keep having these skin flare ups. How do I get this tested?

Cold/flu or gluten poisoning? Hello. I've had another similar episode. I find it very difficult to differentiate between the symptoms of a cold or flu and those caused by gluten poisoning. In fact, I don't know if my current worsening is due to having eaten something that disagreed with me or if the cold I have has caused my body, which is hypersensitive, to produce symptoms similar to those of gluten poisoning.

I'm no longer dealing with constipation. I got my liver test last month and it was in normal range. Two years ago I did have a vitamin D deficiency but I'm know taking vitamin D3 pills. Last month I got my vitamin D checked and it was in normal range. I don't believe I've had my choline checked. However, I do drink almond milk eat Greek yogurt on a daily basis.

Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) can be associated with low ferritin and iron deficiency. Once Celiac Disease (1% of the population affected) has been ruled out by tests the next step is to check for Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (10% of the population affected) by eliminating gluten for a trial period, then re-introduce Gluten Challange. Have you been supplementing Iron? How are your liver enzymes? Low levels of ferritin indicate iron deficiency, while  59% transferrin saturation indicates high iron levels.  Possibly indicating Fatty Liver Disease.  Choline is crucial for liver health, and deficiency is a known trigger for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver.  Some experts say that less than 10% eat the the Food and Nutrition Board established Adequate Intake that are based on the prevention of liver damage. Severe constipation and hemorrhoids may be linked to a bile or choline deficiency.  "Ninety-five percent of phospholipids (PLs) in bile is secreted as phosphatidylcholine or lecithin."  Fatty acid composition of phospholipids in bile in man   Deficiency of these bile salts causes the bile to get thick. Some people with Celiac Disease are misdiagnosed with Gall Bladder bile issues.  Removal of the gallbladder provides only temporary relief. Whether or not celiac disease or NCGS are your issues you need to look at your vitamin D blood level.

      Thanks for your input.

If you have hemorrhoids 1x weekly I don't see how you have time to heal from one episode before you experience another one, unless each one is a very minor event. Have you consulted a physician about your hemorrhoid issue? It's not normal to be having an episode every week unless it is really one episode that is not completely healing between weekly flareups.
