My type 1 diabetic daughter has an appointment with the gastro next week but something I'm wrestling with in her test results

her immunoglobulin A was 78- lower than range which is 80- up

her transglutinminase TTG IGA was > 100

Is she immunoglobulin a deficient?  If she is, doesn't the deficiency only rule out negative results and since she is very much positive then she is definitely headed toward a celiac diagnosis?

Thanks!- I'm having a hard time waiting for this appointment

The IgA test,  when used for celiac testing,  just validates the celiac IgA type results.  Your daughter is just below range, but her celiac test result is valid -- positive.    Read more about an IgA deficiency which should be discussed with your doctor.  Many IGA deficient people have no symptoms at all, so do not be alarmed.

So she is IgA deficient?

It looks like a value of <7 constitutes a real deficiency according to that article so I guess she's not?  I should have gone to med school!

I am not a doctor, but I would think that she is not IgA deficient.  But discuss it with a professional who wears a white coat to set your mind at ease.

I suggested she just not eat gluten ans still have the scope because of the pain she has been having.  She has lost significant weight and is failure to thrive at almoat 21.  She has had GERD and bleeding ulcers previously and is having those issues now.  She also has systemic sclerosis, so we know those things are issues with that.  We will find her a new doctor back home too.

Not only is the doctor being ridiculous, having her make herself ill so he can re-diagnose her already diagnosed celiac disease, but one week of gluten, while able to cause GI symptoms, might not be enough to cause new damage visible with a biopsy. So if she follows his advice he might say she doesn’t have celiac disease! She needs a different doctor.

Welcome to the forum, @Colleen H! NSAIDs can damage small bowel villi like celiac disease does and can also cause peptic ulcers. It would be safer to use a prescription COX 2 inhibitor like celecoxcib which are easier on the gut. But even they should be used as sparingly as possible.

Apparently, the new GI doc is not buying the previous diagnosis of celiac disease and feels the need to confirm it for himself/herself. I would look for another doctor.

Hi all !! Just curious because I am reading opposite information when I try to research. I'm fairly new.  I have all the strange symptoms including horrible jaw pain  Are we " allowed"  to take ibuprofen for jaw and back pain ?  If not any suggestions? I noticed with this pain also comes the nausea.  I find myself eating unsweetened applesauce.  Then having to take something for pain.😞. However, im wondering if I'm just creating a larger mess for myself if I should not be taking ibuprofen. I am open to suggestions and thank you so much !!
