Hello, everyone!

I am going on a trip to watch my son play baseball this Wednesday and will be gone for 5 days.  We are traveling with the team and may not know what we are doing for meals since baseball times are based on whether you win or lose.   I really feel embarrassed going out with the team because they usually decide on a place that I am unable to eat at.  I am gluten, dairy, egg, peanut and now soy free and am really stressed on what foods to pack.  If we have multiple games then my family will eat at the ballpark so I will need to fix something that I can eat cold.  Any food ideas?  I really don't want to prepare and pack a ton of food since we only have a small frig and microwave in the hotel room.  Any suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks!

Bring a good sized cooler with you. One with wheels. Pack it with sandwich fixins, tuna macaroni salad, chips. Also bring along some Udi's frozen chicken florentine, white lasagna and spaghetti and meatballs(Udi's). You'll be stuffed and happy.

If you have a microwave I might suggest getting nordicware microwave cookware. I keep a set of it in my to go kit when I am out at hotels (also bring a griddle) Nordic ware makes bacon cookers, grilling trays (for the microwave), steam trays, rice cookers. etc all work with a microwave. Then you can stop by the store wherever and just get fresh veggies and meats in cook them that way, bacon, deli meats, etc. You would be amazed what you can do with gluten-free deli meats (chopped into noodles, stir fry, etc) and you can bring easy mixes, any gluten-free breads you can bring, canned meats, veggies etc. I always keep emergency meal bars and meal replacement shakes handy also.   I also used to get steamfresh veggies bags (there was a huge CC issues with birdeye when they started making sauced versions) I make my own now with food saver vacuum bags and seasonings/marinades then just stab holes in them and zap them for instant meals.  Nuts, Seeds, dried fruits are also great snacking options look up Gerbs Allergen Friendly foods for safe peanut free snack mixes and for nuts blue diamond makes peanut free ones last I checked, I buy in bulk form alddrin bro almonds (no peanuts CC) and from a another company that does organic almonds only.

Yeah, it is bigger, but it has more insulation.  Prepare ice blocks from 1/2  or 1 gallon milk or juice jugs and add with ice from the hotel.  The cubed ice will last longer.  Take a smaller cooler to carry out to the games. Park in the shade.  

I drag my cooler into the fanciest of hotels.

Thanks for the suggestions!  It is difficult to travel and always raises my anxiety about eating with others.  Here is what I have planned.  Tomorrow I am cooking a few chicken breasts and hamburgers to take along.  I have gluten-free buns.  I have one taco soup in the freezer that I will possibly take.  I may also take some lunch meat and spinach to make a salad.  I saw a recipe for quinoa salad with black beans and you can add in some veggies that may try that instead of macaroni salad since cold macaroni always gets hard.  I plan on mostly cold things since I found out the hotel is 45 minutes away from the field.  I am taking chips, dried figs, nuts, potato and sweet potato to microwave and granola bars.  Breakfast is always a challenge with not being able to eat eggs so I have oatmeal, banana bread, yogurt and cereal to take.  Hoping for good, shady weather with low stress and many baseball wins!!

      So the tTG-IGA at 28 is positive for celiac disease. There are some other medical conditions that can cause elevated tTG-IGA but this is unlikely. There are some people for whom the dairy protein casein can cause this but by far the most likely cause is celiac disease. Especially when your small bowel lining is "scalloped". Your Serum IGA 01 (aka, "total IGA") at 245 mg/dl is within normal range, indicating you are not IGA deficient. But I also think it would be wise to take your doctor's advice about the sucraid diet and avoiding dairy . . . at least until you experience healing and your gut has had a chance to heal, which can take around two years. After that, you can experiment with adding dairy back in and monitor symptoms. By the way, if you want the protein afforded by dairy but need to avoid casein, you can do so with whey protein powder. Whey is the other major protein in dairy.

      hi, i want to say thank you to you and @trents   . after 2 phone calls to my GI, her office called me back to tell me that a blood test was “unnecessary” and that we should “follow the gold standard” and since my biopsy did not indicate celiac, to follow the no dairy and sucraid diet. i luckily have expendable income and made an appt for the labcorp blood test that day. i just got my results back and it indicates celiac disease i think 😭   im honestly happy bc now i KNOW and i can go gluten free. and i am SO MAD at this doctor for dismissing me for a simple blood test that wouldn’t have cost her anything !!!!!!!!!!! im sorry, im so emotional right now, i have been sick my whole life and never knew why, i feel so much better already   my results from labcorp:   Celiac Ab tTG TIgA w/Rflx Test Current Result and Flag Previous Result and Date Units Reference Interval t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 01 28 High U/mL 0-3 Negative 0 - 3 Weak Positive 4 - 10 Positive >10 Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten sensitive enteropathy. Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 01 245 mg/dL 87-352

      Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.
